Frank Sinatra was like the Eric Clapton of popular music he had reached every peak that is humanly possible none came close to him. Ella Fitzgerald on the other hand was like Jimi Hendrix. She was no human, she was the force of nature itself.
One of the great tragedies in music is that despite plans for Frank and Ella to record a studio album, their schedules could never be cleared to be in the same place to do so. In those days, great singers recorded together and live in front of an orchestra of top musicians. Today such an album could be created by simply recording the musicians and then each singer singing his or her own part on her own. You could put together an album way, but we have lost something. On the other hand, we lost the chance for these two make a studio recording together as Frank did with Basie and with Jobim. They had a mutual admiration society; it is a shame they couldn't make it work.
@@Bw12334 yes I think there was a verbal exchange between Granz and Sinatra which precluded any working relationship between the two ( Granz and Sinatra ) from then onwards .I think Frank Sinatra was the last person anyone should have picked a fight with as he had powerful friends .
@@jadezee6316 I have no idea what you are talking about. Sinatra and Fitzgerald planned to record together, their schedules were never made to mesh, and no such album was ever made.
Frank was wonderful and he honed his brilliant talent marvellously of course... but Ella has this thing, this magic that makes her voice so playful, her singing seems so effortless..
I have this whole video collection and i love it, i watched one of them to death over the years. This really shows Ella's ability to sing just about anything if you see this whole show😮
I come back to this video every so often as I’m still learning from it-the chords they sang up & down so flawlessly-its magic really. Never to be heard again.
I met Ella in 1983 at a hotel on Ocean Drive, Miami Beach. She was doing a small New Year Eve show with a combo. We talked between sets. I asked her who her favorite male singer was...she politely replied " Frank Sinatra " ! She said they had a secret affair lasting over 20 yrs....and they would meet often at Italian restaurant Patsy's in Italian Harlem. At times they also took a cab down to the Met and catch an Opera. Their lives were totally centered in music...performing and recording!!
After I saw this on PBS this weekend, I was in awe and clapped so hard, my hands hurt. Such a perfect concert for the Holidays. Love you Frank and Ella.
Yes I think Bill Miller learnt to sit down at the piano ,play what Frank wanted make no comment ,take the money and have a nice easy ( within reason ) life !!
@Mank Hobley I think he was quite well paid also. There were a few times Miller got so frustrated at Sinatra's attitude and disrespectful behaviour towards him that he did walk out of the job.I think one time he was out for a couple of years but Frank realised he missed him and asked him to return .Frank's pet name for Miller was "Suntan Charlie " because Bill never seemed to go out in daylight and therefore had a pale complexion.!
2 great Legends .....IM FROM Spain......mr Big Sinatra...and ms ella fitzgerald........LOVE their songs........one of MY favorite song bout ella its MISTY and bout Frank SINATRA .....fly me to THE Moon ....OR lets fly........and others........for example L.A IS MY LADY........RIP FRANK AND ELLA ......GREETINGS FROM SOUTH OF SPAIN!
Ella was just built different to be able to sit and entertain during a time of descrimination and out to ousting americas favorite voice really does speak for itself. Her talents where not comparable or seen yet again.
Well, I think I'm goin' out of my head Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head Over you, over you I want you to want me, I need you so badly I can't think of anything but you And I think I'm goin' out of my head Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head Over you, over you I see you each morning But you just walk past me you don't even know that I exist Goin' out of my head over you Out of my head over you out of my head day and night Night and day and night, wrong or right I must think of a way into your heart There's no reason why my being shy should keep us apart And I think I'm goin' out of my head Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head Goin' out of my head over you Out of my head over you out of my head day and night Night and day and night, wrong or right Night and day and night Wrong or right, day or night Everyday, every, every day
This is the best version. Frank soars into those higher notes with ease. He sounds tired on the studio recording and not singing anywhere near as high.
@@stevebourbon5322 This is a great version. Tool bad the duet wasn't recorded in a studio as well. This song, solo, is on the Greatest Hits Vol 2. I love the recording, and listen to if a lot. I was really happy to find it available.
Ella seems to be playing it a little low not to overshadow Frank - she could blow him out the front door in a second with her voice. Not needed here though. When I was little we had a black maid named Ella. I always thought that Ella F. looked like her. I was seven. I thought Stevie Wonder was white until I was 8.
I cannot over-emphasize how much I love this duet.
I actually cried tears of joy and ecstasy. I've NEVER heard anything like this in my life.
Seems like the golden era of American culture. Both deservedly earned their respect among fans and fellow artists alike.
Frank was a vocalist...Ella's voice was perfection. Apart and together they're spectacular.
hey, i mean, i think franks is also perfection!
Ella had a wonderful voice, yes: Sinatra had a fine voice, much more expressive and he was the greatest interpreter of a lyric ever.
This is wonderful. I agree with you!🤩
Unusual to hear Frank sing harmony vs the lead. And he did this really well also.
Class and sophistication. When men were gentlemen, and women were ladies.
This is the definition of perfection.
Beautiful. My dads 2 favourite singers. Just a shame Frank wasn't so involver with Ella in this recording. She looks at him.....
Frank Sinatra was like the Eric Clapton of popular music he had reached every peak that is humanly possible none came close to him.
Ella Fitzgerald on the other hand was like Jimi Hendrix. She was no human, she was the force of nature itself.
Her voice is so pure, it pierces through

They did record Finian's Rainbow soundtrack in 1954. A few duets.
it IS NOT TRUE that great singers recorded together "in those days".....name some

By his expression, also Frank shivered 😂🥰

Class and talent nonpareil! Two of the best to ever pick up a microphone.

Wonderful
They weren't stars. They were both galaxies.
Well, I think I'm goin' out of my head
Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head
Over you, over you
I want you to want me, I need you so badly
I can't think of anything but you
And I think I'm goin' out of my head
Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head
Over you, over you
I see you each morning
But you just walk past me you don't even know that I exist
Goin' out of my head over you
Out of my head over you out of my head day and night
Night and day and night, wrong or right
I must think of a way into your heart
There's no reason why my being shy should keep us apart
And I think I'm goin' out of my head
Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head
Goin' out of my head over you
Out of my head over you out of my head day and night
Night and day and night, wrong or right
Night and day and night
Wrong or right, day or night
Everyday, every, every day
GODS in EARTh,,,,,,,,,Out of my head....
OMG❤👏
Maravilhosos!
1:25 Oh, oh, oh, oh my God!
The look on Franks face at 1:25 is priceless.
Yeah when frank heard that...he's like yeah I can't go back to my 1950s voice...so I'll play it safe and croon it
Sin igual !!!
Ella was 50 when this was made but looked at least 10 years younger
IMMENSI DIVINI!!

Sinatra adored Ella and was the only singer capable of singing duets with her..try and find others....
🥰😉
what a duo, huh? need to say something?
And kudos to Teddy Randazzo who wrote this widely covered song.
Kudos to Little Anthony & The Imperial s making it a smash & timeless hit!!!

Quality is so good but the voice like changed
@#$%^!!! This song JUST cost me another `59 Skyliner AND a second trip to Rio!!
