    I've gotten so much from this video! Thanks so much!!
    I'm hoping some year soon to hike the Bruce but am salty about the idea of not camping on the trail. Looking forward to seeing what you do further south.

      Thanks! I was super uneasy about the stealth camping on my first Bruce attempt but this time I just relaxed and felt comfortable about my location choices. Nobody ever bothers me or says anything. There's always that feeling of doing something wrong which I'm not keen about though.

    Great videos thanks for sharing! A few quick q’s as I hope to hike the trail myself, what was your start date, and were black flies/mosquitos a big problem for you?

    • @CScullyBrown
      @CScullyBrown  ปีที่แล้ว

      my first attempt started on September 13th which was absolutely ideal. this time it was May 9th. though I didn't have problems with black flies, by the time I got into the Beaver Valley, the mosquitoes wanted to kill me. It honestly ruined most of my hike and I swore to never hike during summer again. I'd rather be cold and wet in the fall or early spring.

      @@CScullyBrown Thanks that’s super helpful. One more q if you don’t mind- how long does it take for the feet to stop being in pain everyday? Does that pain go away or get much less intense as the body gets used to the daily distances?
      Big congrats on your through-hike BTW, what an adventure.

      @@philippebourdeau2281 anytime. I'm MORE than happy to talk about my travels. I spent 1600km of thru hiking the bruce in september and may/june so I got to experience a lot. c.scullybrown@gmail.com But the foot pain is a long one and pretty individual. slightly more padded shoes helped me go longer each day before the pain set in. towards the end the foot pain was more because the shoes were so worn out.

    Just found your channel through running. Now camping! LOL I'm planning to start the 46 High Peaks in the Adirondacks. Also just trying to start a channel... if I could just settle on a cool name! I already have around 10 videos just waiting for me to get my act together. I'm just south of you in the Finger Lakes area.

      HAHA. well this channel started because i wanted to document my Thru Hikes. We spent some time in the finger lakes region last thanksgiving and i had a blast running every day. I've never been up to the Adirondacks though and would love to. Y'know what they say, there's no time like the present especially with making and uploading videos. go for it!

    Looks like lots of great places to hang a hammock! If you ever switch, it’ll be the most comfortable sleep you could ever have…highly recommend

    Where do you camp overnight? I can't find a whole lot of overnight rest areas, do you stealth camp along the trail?

    • @CScullyBrown
      @CScullyBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I mostly stealth camp because that's what works with desired mileage from day to day. I will use the overnight rest areas if they are convenient but there are so few of them. Most of us who thru-hike the Bruce stealth camp despite it not being permitted. Anyone I've met along the way who has asked me have all been supportive. And really, if a thru-hiker has more time and energy to do nothing more than set up a tent, eat and sleep, they're doing it wrong! I strictly follow leave no trace! (leave a flat spot only....)

    i plan on hiking the bruce trail with my partner (although not a thru hike like you, just whenever we are able to have a couple consecutive days off) and i was wondering what your favourite parts of the bruce trail

    • @CScullyBrown
      @CScullyBrown  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. wow, what are my favourite parts? gee, I'm not sure I can even answer that. Obviously most people will say the Bruce Penninsula and they wouldn't be wrong. It has the most amazing views But it's also quite technical. The Beaver Valley is a good mix of technical with some beauty water sources. Honestly, there is beauty to be found every step of the way. The whole trail is so varied. Enjoy!!

    Music? In nature? 😢

    • @CScullyBrown
      @CScullyBrown  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sometimes music but usually audiobooks and podcasts. When you hike 10+ hours day after day, a bit of entertainment isn't the worst thing. Half the time they're in my ears, nothing is even on. At lest it's not a bluetooth speaker!

    I hope you made it. I was northbound thru-hiking and relaxing at the waterfront in Wiarton as you passed by. I arrived in Tobermory May 20, so it was around 13th.

      Hey! I remember you! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your thru-hike! Oddly enough I read this comment yesterday as I was sitting in the hospital having my broken ankle xrayed. I rolled it at the end of the day yesterday. Today was supposed to be my final day. So did I make it? Technically no. In a couple months, when this heals, I'll go finish my final day but it won't be right.

      @@MikeInTheWoods there are no words to express the level of frustration I feel from breaking my ankle 1 day from the terminus. It ain't over 'till it's over so until I can hike again, I don't have closure on my thru-hike. But I am proud of what I did accomplish.
