All three of the bosses against Drakengard 1 characters play this theme. This is a song of tragedy. Manah, Caim, Angelus... all broken by their experiences. Twisted by the machinations of malevolent gods. Manah. A victim of abuse at the hands of her mother. So desperate for love that she committed atrocities in the name of the gods. Caim. A good man turned a monster by the fall of his home, the loss of his family, and years of war. Angelus. A hateful dragon who found love, and sacrificed her happiness for his sake, only to be tormented by the senility of a paranoid old man. ...they all deserved better.
He cared enough about her to end the world. After all, he killed the priest when he increased the stress the seal placed on Angelus, then continued on to break the seals one after the other, knowing that in the end he would only be able to see her once more. It's heartbreaking. To end the world to save the one you love, that's quite a choice to make.
Man this is one of the better boss fight BGM. I was heartbroken when I saw my idol burst into flames after Angelus' death. I was a bit happy that he could leave the world with her though, I mean he was practically by himself in the world, god knows what happened to Leonard because they DO make reference to him in the game, I don't want to know what aurioch is doin, Inuart dead, furiae dead, his parents dead, all he had was Angelus and he cared enough about her to slay an entire army.
AFTER SO MANY YEARS, I finally know what this track reminds me of. That feeling of having heard something similar before annoyed me so much, and I thought I'd never get to know what it reminded me of but now I can say for sure but it reminds me of SHINJI (A-6) SYMPHONY from EVANGELION !
See that is true love right there, even though they were different species and note that he did not like dragons at the start of Drakengard but he was able to get so close to Angelus, the same species that killed his parents.
I still remember how, years ago, i entered for the first Time the last room of the district of shining light. When this song started, i wasn't figthing Caim. I Made the fight last long, to listen the whole song.... Beautiful.
Mine would be 1. Fighting Caim 2. Fighting Angelus 3. Fighting Legna 4. Uricks death. and I have so many more. there were so many instances in this game that were baww worthy, and if you played the first game you grew really attached to those characters before you're forced to kill them. God, I was in tears.
only the deepest of intellectuals and some of the rest fully allow themselves to sit down and listen and play drakengard, it is without a doubt a masterpiece, it is like a jedi, drakengard is undeniably a good game thats why its so deep and why it matters and why i/you cant stop thinking about it and nier and babylons fall, masterpieces, and they should always be cheap, the world needs square enix and cavia.
@Zr388 There are only TWO canon endings to Drakengard 1, those being the first (leading to Drakengard 2) and the fifth (Leading to Nier.) The question of who Furiae loved is irrelevant because she was a goddess. She couldn't have anyone. Inuart still became infatuated with her anyway. Caim loved her as a SISTER, but Furiae loved Caim as more than that. It's a very confusing story but you should look for the speech that was in the tomb from Drakengard 2. Clears a lot up.
great song for a great game. I loved this song when fighting Caim. I really wish he hadn't died. I think he was a better protagonist for the type of apocalyptic game that drakengard is than the stereotypical goody two shoes hero of light nowe. Caim was a sick and cold hearted bastard yes, but you can't help but wonder if such a darkness is what such a twisted world really needs in it's last hour, if it has any rel chance of salvation
She didn't need to be pregnant. She entered a seed of resurection with Inuart and as a result Nowe was created. Nowe wasn't 'concieved' he was technically created by the gods tool.
@EmperorXaozx Just to clear some stuff up in this comment string, You don't see Inuart or Furiae after a certain part in the first ending of Drakengard because they enter the seed of resurrection together. Along with Legna's blood, this is what creates the new breed. Legna and the Black Dragon from Drakengard 1 are the SAME. It's all explained with the 'blood memory' of the dragons. Legna's 3rd form matches the black dragon perfectly.
Hardest momments for me with this music: 1: Uricks death 2: Fighting manah 3: fighting Angelis 4: fighting Legna Urick is first because he was the closest person to nowe. Manah because the Stage was just that depressing. Angelis over legna because legna kind of backstabbed nowe so I feel less (but still) sympathetic. Caim and angelis really loved eachother with the pact they made.

@AirshipCanon2 I like one winged angel, depending on the arrangement, but Fate has a special kind of uniqueness that you don't see much anymore from games.

Well, if you think about it, if anyone could beat Caim, it would be his nephew. (Furaie being Caim's sister and kindasorta Nowe's mom. Yeah everyone focuses on the fact that he's Inuart's and forgets all about Caim's sister >>)

The fallen dragon will be the key to a new world.

@WolfkinNorthclaw They can't do a third game, it's really not possible with the way they severed all ties to the first by killing the major characters. It wouldn't work right. If you liked drakengard though, take a look at Nier. I hear you can see Angelus's dead body skewered on the top of a building in the background in game, and it makes other references to drakengard.
Interesting thought. Technically the replicant would have to have a soul to make a pact I'd think. He's an empty body. The replicants were "Souless bodies/shells" that grew emotions like androids did. How? No idea. Did they have souls at all? Also no idea. The concept is so foreign it's hard to say. I realize the question is about the Gestalt/Shadowlord, but the Replicant had to make the same pact. He really didn't make a pact in the same way the pact beasts did I'd think, but I don't know what they could have lost. Could have been years off their life for all we know, since they were never expected to survive. Nier-Gestalt/The Shadowlord was human when he asked Grimoire Noir for aid though, and we know he was awakened as a human long enough to see Yohnah through to sleep into the Replicant program as well as a large number of other humans as he awaited testing options for reversing her condition with the power of the Grimoire. The books never gave either of them brute strength or any kind of internal ability. Their own powers were sealed entirely to themselves and was only a limited resource as we saw when Weiss ran out of steam, which is maybe why there was no pact price-- even if the concept was similar. The price was paid by the experimentation to create the tomes. So while in theory there is something here, the pact isn't exactly between the Grimoires and Gestalt/Replicant but instead with some timebomb factor that is keyed to the books themselves. The scientists were specifically looking for a person in the Gestalt program who could key to the book and survive it. Nier was the only one who could, and it seemed to be a complete fluke. But if the pact was already made it may have been more of a strength or temperamental thing rather than a pact loss thing. If anyone else had made a pact they would have, after all, been fine. My information is a bit rusty and I could be wrong but you've stroked my brain a bit! I came back to this comment over and over for months and never really could come to a full cohesive thought process on how to answer it because honestly.. there's so many what-ifs. I've settled on the children who eventually became the books paying the toll though... since essentially for magic to exist a pact has to exist. You're absolutely right.

As someone who believes "new timeline" and "new world" in japanese might be similar (in other words, I think "Nier" world is "Drakengard" world in a different time period/timeline), I think Nier might be one of the descendants of Brother One (hence his Gestalt's angelical look), the white hair being a result of the family tree replicating more of Zero's constitution through out the generations. Yonah's disease might be either because she can't handle her own power, or replicated Zero a little too perfectly, to the point of replicating her disease from when she was a human. If it's true though, I fear what would have happened if the Gestalt project had been successful.

It's route W, named mostly in honor of Intoner 2, though it can also apply to the word [w]eapon, as the weapons we find through out the series play a larger role in the characters' arcs. I use characters from "Drakengard 2". Oror is a former feudal Lord of Cathedral City who tries to redeem himself by being a father/mentor figure to the Intoners, before Zero's hunt. Gismor will appear in my "Drakengard 1" fic, and possibly "Nier", but the latter is not yet 100% well defined. The other lieutenants will appear too in "Drakengard 1", though as you can imagine, they'll be much younger. But most importantly, there will be NO Nowe. I think you'll enjoy the story.
@@JabamiLain We already know that the timeline is cyclical. It's a complete loop. Hence the androids appearing in the 800's in the DOD universe and the dragon/caim appearing in Tokyo in 2002. However, Brother One's descendants were wiped out at the death of Mana at the end of DOD1. There's no others. The worlds are the same but completely alternate timelines that don't intersect except those two points. The black scrawl is caused by the body rejecting its duplicate and in essence, disintegrating. Almost everyone who went through the Gestalt program at some point would have begun to show similar symptoms, but Yohnan was very very quick to. Even when she was human she was described as sickly. They were never well off or cared for, and Yohnah/Nier are shown in the beginning of the game (Pre-Timeskip) after having already gone through the duplication program. So all that's left is for Nier to decide on if he'll work with the scientists and attempt to pick up the book and work with them. He hadn't decided at that point if he was going to if my memory of the short story is correct. But Yohnah relapses very, very quickly.

Considering Drakengard 1’s ost is a much darker version of that concept, that fits incredibly well.

The black scrawl is caused by the body rejecting its duplicate and in essence, disintegrating. Almost everyone who went through the Gestalt program at some point would have begun to show similar symptoms, but Yohnan was very very quick to. Even when she was human she was described as sickly. They were never well off or cared for, and Yohnah/Nier are shown in the beginning of the game (Pre-Timeskip) after having already gone through the duplication program. So all that's left is for Nier to decide on if he'll work with the scientists and attempt to pick up the book and work with them. He hadn't decided at that point if he was going to if my memory of the short story is correct. But Yohnah relapses very, very quickly.
@@EspressoStreams I won't give up so easily. It would be an explanation as to how ending D and E are possible in the first place. And a 100 years is a lot of time, especially given the Disciples and Intoners' lust.
