APX NEXT XE might be my favorite paperweight yet. Challenges with programming it with CPS.

  • If you ever acquire an APX NEXT, here is the first major pitfall you may encounter, and what to look for to avoid the problem.
    Make sure you either have RadioCentral or your radio has software version R04.22.00 or higher. Version 4.00.00 must be updated prior to using CPS27, and that update CAN ONLY be done through RadioCentral.

    Dear sir, If you do not want an APX radio, I would be more than ecstatic to take it off your hands!!!!! I also explore this fascinating line of technology.

    It's a great radio, but motorola don't really have training videos on programming these newer radios. I feel your pain. It's Motorola charging arm and a leg 💰 for there products and charge you additional equipment to run those equipment and thats not including subscription fee's top of that.

    Where did you buy? And how much did you pay? I can't find these anywhere (and trust me I have been looking!)

      Sadly it was at the same shop where my daughter saw a unicorn. Seriously though, I got it through a guy I’ve bought many radios from, and he happened to find it. I’ve yet to get it programmed though, currently it’s in the hands of another Motorola tech who is trying to update the he firmware so I can use CPS to program it.
      Some forums say that dealers are having a hard time selling these to departments, so I suggest you call all of the Motorola dealers in your area. Flea-Bay isn’t always the best place to find radios.

    Just curious, do you still have this radio?

      Sadly I do not. I was notified by a very polite detective that it was allegedly stolen, so it was returned to their department. A pretty frustrating situation.

    quick question can you program police frequencies?

    • @AdventureCruiser
      @AdventureCruiser  ปีที่แล้ว

      That question used to be much simpler to answer than it is today. In the past departments used to use unencrypted analog which was easy to listen to. They then went digital unencrypted which was harder, and now they’re using digital encrypted. It’s impossible to listen to most police departments these days, and illegal to crack their encryption. You can still program their frequencies, but you will only hear random digital noise. Scanner apps for phones typically do a good job of allowing you to listen to all unencrypted radio traffic in your area. Sorry.

    MSI being MSI. I've slowed down upgrading my personal collection due to this increasing nonsense.

      The story has grown immensely, I’ll do another video later on. If I had bought it directly from Motorola it would have saved a bunch of hassle. I actually can’t blame Motorola for their actions, they really looked out for the original purchaser. That being said, I’d like to explore other brands too.

      @@AdventureCruiser Any chance this is still under the original warranty? If so I'd send that thing to the depot with the problem of not being able to upgrade firmware, and they basically should send you a whole new radio which will no longer be tied to the original owners system. We've sent radios back to Motorola for various problems and rather then just replacing the faulty part they will basically replace every part of the radio and ship it back to us.
