How Gas Turbines Work? (Detailed Video)

- A gas turbine, also called a combustion turbine, is a type of continuous combustion, internal combustion engine. The main elements common to all gas turbine engines are:
1. An upstream rotating gas turbine compressor;
2. A combustor;
3. A downstream turbine on the same shaft as the compressor.
A fourth component is often used to increase efficiency (on turboprops and turbofans), to convert power into mechanical or electric form (on turboshafts and electric generators), or to achieve greater thrust-to-weight ratio (on afterburning engines).
The working principle of a gas turbine is a Brayton cycle with air as the working fluid. Atmospheric air flows through the compressor that brings it to higher pressure. Energy is then added by spraying fuel into the air and igniting it so the combustion generates a high-temperature flow. This high-temperature high-pressure gas enters a turbine, where it expands down to the exhaust pressure, producing a shaft work output in the process. The turbine shaft work is used to drive the compressor; the energy that is not used for compressing the working fluid comes out in the exhaust gases that can be used to do external work, such as directly producing thrust in a turbojet engine, or rotating a second, independent turbine (known as a power turbine) which can be connected to a fan, propeller, or electrical generator.

turbine engine operates I want a pdf, can you help?
The compressed air enters the compressor discharge case, is warmed and expanded into energy in the combustion cans/chambers which, through transitions, directs the expanded energy into the turbine section. Here the energy is expended across the turbine sections, creating the torque necessary to drive the generator and create power.
so what is the role of high pressure turbine after guel is added in combuction chamber with high compressed air especially in aircraft with HIGH BY PASS RATIO OR MODERN COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT ENGINE .............. sir would be greatful if u answer this.......thankyou
All of my work experience was with he heavy duty GE gas turbines.
Thank you so much Mr. Ted for sharing your valuable knowledge and experience with us.

@@ankurkansal171 The air from the compressor is used for combustion and cooling of the surrounding casing. The turbine is what spins from the combustion.
why don't they add more turbines to extract more energy instead of installing steam turbines?
Love the video, glad there is no irritating music in background 😆
All gas turbines of different types depend in their work on drawing air from the outside and then increasing its pressure and speed with condensers to tens of atmospheric pressure according to the number of feather discs so that the friction between the compressed air particles increases with each other inside the condensers, which raises the temperature of the compressed air to many times the boiling point of water to accelerate the combustion of the fuel spray coming out of the syringes in the combustion chamber, which increases the efficiency and concentration of the directed kinetic energy resulting from the combustion, so that the combustion product acts as a feedback by moving the exhaust blade discs connected to the same axis of the compressor discs, and in the case of imbalance of the concentrated air pressure inside the condensers, the energy produced in the combustion chamber they will be dispersed to all directions and may cause an explosion inside the gas turbine. This is why the margin of error during manufacture of the turbine disc blades does not exceed several microns to maintain the stability of the flow of compressed air inside the condenser.
After a long time found a right video for my curiosity
i can relate
A good explanation, I liked the information on combined cycle
turbine engine operates I want a pdf, can you help?
There are two types of blade in fan(turbine also) one is suck the air and other one who blow the air???
In turbine which type of blade is used?????
Compressor fans, suck and blow are the same thing with a different angle. They are simply optimized to suck in and compress as much air as possible before firing
angles are engineered to compress air at separate stages then angles are engineered to catch air separate stages. In between each of the moving blades are stationary blades engineered to straighten the "air" back into a more perpendicular flow. removing the spin from the flow. referred to as stators.
Do we use just air to rotate the turbine? is there a need to burn natural gas?
Which gases we can use as a natural gas?
Thank you brother for your good explanation 😊😊😊🙂🙂🙂
Super-educational video. Thank you!
Thank you so much.

what measurements are typically recorded during operation ?
Why not use a mini gas turbine on car exhaust to make a stronger vacuum on the engine so used gas is sucked out faster and with a higher vacuum the car may have more power?
build it. I thought the same thing about the car transmission. They have it called a Torque converter.
@@mikeslicker7569 I think it is called a turbo.
@@travismoore7849 Turbo's work similar to what you're describing but a little different. A turbo in a car has 2 turbines back to back met together, one turbine is exhaust, the other is for intake. When the engine produces exhaust it causes the exhaust half of the turbine to spin which causes the intake side to spin causing forced induction, which has somewhat of an amplifying effect because more inlet air = outlet air thus more inlet air. That's also there's turbo lag because with bigger turbos, it can take them a bit of time to spool up.
@@MrBobbyjoe5 i don't know why engineers didn't implement the magnet surrounded by coils of copper wire on the intake compressor shaft just like in the gas turbine, i think that way we can eliminate turbo lag!
How do you balance a gas turbine rotor
what is air to fuel ratio in gas turbine?
Maybe the title should be named " Applications of GE engines ".
Two thoughts: '101' is one of if not the only slang term that's been in continuous use since 1929 . . . . . two: is it RPM or RPM's?
how much is the gas turbine that can generate 100KVA?
Can you have multiple steam turbines all in series as the steam passes from turbine to turbine? This also makes me wonder why hydroelectric plants don’t have hundreds of turbines catching water one after another?
I'm thinking inside the box, but to build the best steam turbine you set the parameters to catch all the available energy in the first pass.
How the compressor works?(please with detailed)
this is soo cool
all i can say is wow

Mr. Kensul, What is GUEL?
Can biogas(natural waste gas) used as chemical energy..?
call me joe but "big natural gas" is producing a product that has stable consistent uniform results in huge low cost quantites. The market will guarantee that as soon as "big biogas" meets and exceeds natural gas, it will be used. I have been apart "retrofit" jobs in which we converted #2 fuel oil burner plants to natural gas. Big job to change the process but cleaner lower cost made it happen.
Fascinating!!!....
