    This flight took about an hour delay after boarding because the ramp workers couldn't get Alaska's electronic weight and balance system to process the flight correctly. That, coupled with the "Pineapple Express" storm system that had higher than normal headwinds is why this flight took over 6.5 hours. For anyone wondering why it was so long.

    YES!!! He finally did it!!! He finally left from Paine Field!!!!
    That airport is sooooooo much closer to us than Sea-Tac. The one hitch to PAE is their parking options are more limited, and I don't know if they have any off site options. Also, they have very little by the way of ground transportation to and from the airport. The hotel accommodation options are also quite limited. For people who don't have a car or who don't have a lot of luggage and want to leave their car at home, they can take the Green Swift Bus to Airport Way and 100th. The hitch is you'll have to walk about half a mile on 100th to the terminal, but if you're up for it, taking the CT Swift Bus is a good and very inexpensive way to get to PAE. And it's easy to connect to the Green Swift Bus from other CT routes.
    The City of Everett and Snohomish County spent decades fighting each other whether to open up PAE to commercial air traffic or not. But the airport finally won and opened up to AK Airlines in 2017 (I think).
    Look like you took off from the south, heading north. One of these days, you should visit the big hangar on the other side of 526 from PAE. That thing is HUGE!! The ceiling is like 250 feet high.
    Yes, this was when we were getting clobbered by all of the December storms, including a Pineapple Express. I think this was also the day when we had the darkest High Noon I had ever seen. It was a record. I took photos of it to record this event and posted it on my FB page. Some people said that they couldn't believe that it was that dark, and I said, yes, it really was, that this was not trick photography.
    Anyhow, I was watching the 2014 remake of Robocop before I switched over to your video. This is the one with Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman and Micheal Keaton. I picked up the blu-ray for $5 at the Winco the other day. It was a blu-ray/DVD/digital combo set. I was able to redeem my movie to get the streaming version, and I tested the blu-ray and DVD disks and they all passed. Pretty good bargain for $5, wouldn't you say?
    Anyhow, I now feel jet lagged from watching your video, so I'll rest up and see the rest of the Robocop movie. :)

    • @sla31
      @sla31  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, the weather was much nicer in Honolulu. I would pick the darkest day on record to take a flight like this haha. I quite liked PAE. If I lived in the area I'd strongly consider it any time I needed to fly, just to avoid SEA. But as you mentioned, the amenities and options around the airport are quite laking. So, you really need to have a pretty specific set of circumstances for it to really work well all the time. Nice little airport though.

      @@sla31 If their lot allows parking for a week, PAE would be a very viable option for my GF and I to get in and out of. It would be soooooooo much easier for us, soooooo much less hassle than going all the way down to Sea-Tac. If I had to go on a getaway, I could walk over to the Blue Swift Bus and connect to the Green Swift and I would be there.
      If you wondered, PAE is 580 feet in elevation. It's at one of the highest places in the entire Seattle-Everett-Tacoma metro area, and it's also smack dab in the Convergence Zone, where they'll get snow when no one else will. And also heavy downpours.
      Fun fact: Everett has one of the very best bus systems for a city its size in the whole US. ET has the best system that I know of for a small city of 50,000-100,000. they cover all the neighborhoods, are reasonably priced and run frequently enough. And it connects with Community Transit and also Skagit Transit and Island Transit. And also the Amtrak and Greyhound.
      Western WA has the best interconnected bus system in the US. And they connect with the ferries. You can literally go from Downtown Seattle up to the Canadian border and going the other way, you can get to Astoria, OR and going west, you can make it all the way to Neah Bay and La Push. It's best to do this on a weekday though, and give yourself plenty of time.
      The only other place in the US that has a really good interconnected transit system would be the New York Metro area, but with the commuter rail network. NY, by far, has the nation's best commuter rail system. And they connect with the NY subways. And also with the Amtrak trains.

      Does TH-cam pay you to do this @@sla31?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@kevinjones9660 no, at least not in the way you are asking. TH-cam doesn't pay me because I make videos from onboard planes. And they didn't hire me to make videos from onboard planes. But, I do make money off of these videos. It's how I'm able to make more videos. No, TH-cam is just the platform that gives me the opportunity to make money off of these videos. See, once your channel hits certain thresholds, you can enter the "TH-cam Partner Program." And once you've been approved to be in the Partner Program, TH-cam then starts allowing ads to be shown on your videos. The review for the YTPP is manual and they basically make sure you meet all the criteria and that your videos are safe for advertisers. Then companies pay TH-cam to have their ads shown on videos. Usually these are targeted ads based on each individual's search and viewing habits. TH-cam then takes their cut of the ad revenue and then pays the rest out to me. I essentially earn "royalties" on my videos from the ads that TH-cam shows on them. My check every month actually comes from Google. So, yes I make money off the videos, but it's not really because TH-cam wanted to pay me to make videos like this. Again, they're just the platform that gives me the opportunity to make money off of them. In the end, I spent 9 years building this channel into what it is today, and it didn't make me a penny for the first 5 years. It didn't start covering my expenses until 7 years in and it's only been in the last two years that it's started to make enough money where I actually end up making some money. I wanted there to be a channel like this and there wasn't really anyone else doing it. So, I started my own and after years of grinding, it's finally paying off. So to speak. I hope that all makes sense. Yes, TH-cam is paying me, but it's not because TH-cam just gives me money to make videos. They are paying me my cut of what ads are shown on my videos.

I had switched to 15 Pros, but Apple had a hardware issue with the 15 Pros that would cause them to randomly stop filming after various amounts of time. So, I returned them and went back to 14 Pros. According to Apple, who I've been in contact with for over a month, they were finally able to find the issue and correct it in the latest software update. So, 15's should be safe to use again now.

      This flight was definitely full. I take shots of the cabin as soon as I get onboard, which because of my Oneworld Sapphire status, that means I'm usually one of the first onboard. I do this so I get as few people in my shots as possible. I then reframe from filming when there are tons of people onboard. So, the appearance that the flight wasn't full was only because of that.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, I did not. I do travel with a mount, but I rarely use it. At this point the mount is really a leftover from back when I used to film time lapses at airports. I film with iPhones, and although they have excellent cameras, they are not designed to be stable action cameras. So when you mount one to an aircraft window, all of the engine and air vibrations get transferred into the lens of the camera and the footage ends up looking all warped. The only way to eliminate that is to isolate the camera away from the plane by holding it.
