Dave, the W&W crew is so very lucky that you joined our ranks. We would never have been able to complete the project before Harvest Festival without your help. Making all of these videos of the work is so great, we appreciate everything you do. I never thought at my age that I would start learning and doing track work, but here we are. It was a ton of fun!!

Glad you enjoyed Paul! Great folks here to work with and be around. We had a lot of fun. Really appreciate the very nice comment and for watching tonight my friend.

That is beautiful track, sir. I lost it at the narrow gage regulator haha. Thank you for posting this and preserving a significant part of our history. Much respect.

I don't know how you find time to do this excellent work. It gives me a perspective on the original railroads going across the country and what obstacles and day to day work they faced. It's too bad Quadrill doesn't make a narrow gauge machine - you could drill and set lag screws on every tie plate with ease - of course it wouldn't be authentic - so, never mind :) No matter the task you have a great crew of volunteers there! Instead of sitting at home quietly, they are with you busting butt on a narrow gauge railroad! My hat is off to all of you folks!
Golly Brian, what a really nice comment there my friend. It is much appreciated, these guys were great to work with and be around, we had a lot of fun.
Would love to have you donate one for them here Jason! That's a lot of work with a track broom....sigh, my back was hurting after that job. Appreciate your watching my good friend.
I think Paul that in one of my former lives, I might have worked track for PRR.....LOL , but if not a guy can always dream. Appreciate your tuning in and watching today my friend.
Thank you for sharing. Fantastic accomplishment and team effort. Y’all have made something that so many will enjoy and will last 100’s of years when others follow in your footsteps. Congratulations to all. Cheers!
Thank you very much for the very nice comment, we do appreciate that and for your viewing the show today. Everyone here was just fantastic to work with and be around, we had a lot of fun.

Thank you Raymond. Really great folks here to work with and be around. Do appreciate your nice comment and for tuning in and watching today's show my friend.
Cool ballast regulator Looks like it is based on the British Railways MK1 type LOL. Great to see the young lady taking part in the work Preservation needs more young people like that who can learn so much from you.
Was easy for me to operate, little training was needed and it was environmentally friendly, didn't burn any fuel....LOL You are so absolutely right in the preserving of our RR history needs more youth! Really appreciate the very nice comment and for tuning in today my friend.
Thank you K B, great folks here to work with and be around. Christmas Day video will be watching him oiling the loco so hope you enjoy that one. Appreciate your tuning in for today's show my friend.
Thank you Ezekiel, do appreciate your watching and for the nice comment. I'm trying to get them to spend some money on having the rail tested by you, hope you got a narrow gauge testing truck! LOL Tell the good folks at Sperry at least it will be a tax deduction for them... Ha Ha Ha
We had a good team, not ready for the transcontinental RR but was good for here....LOL She has a lot of spunk and is fun to be around. Do appreciate your watching Charles.
I live next to the Midland Railroad in Kansas. Recently they been doing some major track maintenance. Midland is a educational historical organization. They purchased 11 miles of track from ATSF and operated out ot the Baldwin City depot.
That's pretty cool Timothy. Have you considered volunteering with them. It's great to see others also keeping RR history alive. Thanks so much my friend for checking out this video today.
When your ready to do your narrow gauge, I'd be glad to come out and volunteer and I'll bring my pretty tie nipper with me! Do so much appreciate your writing in and for watching my good friend.
Nah, I told here when NS or CSX sees her in action they will be beating down her door with offers of big bucks! Appreciate your watching the home movie today my friend.
Thank you Brian. Folks here are just awesome to work with and be around, you would really enjoy them. Good honest down to earth like yourself. Do appreciate your tuning in and watching the show today my good friend.
Thank you Wayne, really appreciate the nice comment and for your offer. They can always use some monetary donations if you'd care to help out that way. Link is in description on how to do that. Thanks for writing and watching my friend.
The finished product looks fantastic, your little nipper was nipping no problem, she's hired. Grinder made short work of cutting that rail, love the sparks, great job to you and the volunteers.
Thank you very much Pappy for the really nice comment. I told her once NS and CSX watches her in action they will be beating down her door with job offers....LOL
Dave, with exception of the girl, your crew is one HAPPY MEAL away from a heart attack. The problem is young kids would not even consider doing the work. That's a bad 4 letter word for most. W O R K.
Hi Dave, what a brilliant standard you have set, watching your videos of your work at The Cumberland mine there's no surprise, well done to all of you at the museum, great teamwork. Interesting to see you don't have a muffler on your spike driver, we've had to have them on over here in the UK for 40 years! Dave as it's nearly Christmas plears may I firstly thank you for all the smashing videos you've made and secondly I'd like to wish you and your family a very happy, , peaceful Christmas and a healthy New year. Rgds Peter.
Wow Peter what a really nice comment my friend. We do appreciate your writing in and for watching. Everyone here did a great job, wonderful folks to be around and work with, we all had a good time. And may you and family also have a most blessed holiday season and prosperous new year.
Awesome looking work Dave. You and your crew are qualified narrow gaugers now ! Looks like the crew was not afraid to get dirty and get the job done. I think you can ride over the new track and not spill a drop of coffee !
Thank you Scott for the really swell comment. We do appreciate your writing in and for watching my friend. Next video out your gonna see #4 ride over these rails, hope you will enjoy that one also.
Thank you Russell, had some really good help here, these guys are awesome to work with and be around. Appreciate your viewing today's home movie my good friend.
The track looks awesome! Great work guys! Funny you should mention BNSF track - I drove by their Mississippi River track earlier today, and it looks like they are replacing a bunch of small bridges over creeks with pre-fab concrete ones. I wish they had a TH-cam channel - I'd like to see how they do that! I also like your locomotive shed. East Terminal Railway (TH-cam) could really use a shed like yours for their locomotive. It got vandalized sitting out in the open 🙁
Thanks my good friend, everyone here did a great job and were a lot of fun to work with and be around. We replaced our #1 under pass bout 11 years ago with a concrete pre fab, it's really nice and went quick once the foundations were poured. I'll do a short video on the inside of that sometime for you next year.
Well you tricked me! When I saw those ties in the beginning of the video, I thought something happened and you had to take up what you had done. LOL Great video and hats off to all those hard working people, you included.
Didn't mean to trick you Valerie, that's why Pappy came into your life....LOL Funny but he and I were texting today about his chair handling abilities.... Ha Ha Ha. Thank you for the nice comment and for watching my friend.
@@ccrx6700 I've known Pappy for quite a while, unless you have had the same pleasure of knowing him for a while, if not you catch on fast. LOL. Have a wonderful rest of the week.
This came out beautifully, truly. It's nice that you, and others, take pride in your work. Will the historical society still be accepting donations designated specifically for the railroad? - I know you mentioned them eventually wanting a track to get the coach out, plus the costs on what is already there....
Thank you very much for the very nice comment. We do appreciate your writing in and for watching. To make a contribution to help preserve this unique narrow gauge railroad - all contributions are tax deductible and are greatly appreciated! email Matt here: matt@greenecountyhistory.org
Looking great 👍 Dave! The building of the new run a round track at Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley RR is slowly moving forward. 500 ft of drain tile ditch is almost done. The swamp has been drained, and topsoil stripping has begun. Lot of dirt to be moved. Using baby mini Kubota excavator, need your bigger machine removing a lot of muck. The drain is working well. When all said and done, 600 ft. New run a round track and 250 ft. Storage track will be built. Hope to see you soon, or, come up to the Baseball ⚾️ Hall of Fame. It's just down the road. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄. 🎄. Richard Bause
Thank you Richard. that's great you are moving along with your work, I sure would love to come up there and help out. Was at the Hall of Fame way back when a teenager and I absolutely loved it! That was in late 1960's. Do appreciate your writing in and for watching today's home movie my friend.
How fabulous, Dave! Great work, great tracks! Now just don't extend them across the driveway or you'll hit the print shop! Please say Merry Christmas to your team and to all of my Greene County friends!
Thank you Pete for the very nice comment. We are trying to get some grant money to extend the track, hopefully a loop around the society and also get #4 back under steam. That's gonna take some doing! Print shop has to go if that happens.... they didn't like it when I said that, so guess we gonna have engineer some new design track plans....LOL Appreciate your watching my friend.
Thank you very much my friend, been awhile since heard from ya. Very observant! they weren't track bolts, just regular bolts from hardware store. Appreciate your watching and writing in, hope all is well in NYC with you.
#ccrx 6700 do you add a 1/4 inch. to the track gauge? That was how I was told to do it what I worked for a short line to keep the rail and wheel wear down.
Very good question Mike. Here they wanted to keep it right at 36. I've always been a proponent of gauge widening on sharp degree curves on the Cumberland RR where I work, specially with our 3 axle locomotive trucks. However not anyone there has wanted to agree with me on that one. I think it would cut down on high rail curve wear on the gage face of the rail head and also ease some wear on the car and loco wheels also. We have a lot of curves over 8 degrees, some are up to 12 degrees on main. Seems like it was common practice in the days of steam.
Thank you. For the near future no on the loco, we are checking into some grant money so we can extend track and get loco back under steam, but you know how that goes. Do appreciate your tuning in to the show today my good man. PS: it is set up to run off compressed air so that may be next years project getting that accomplished.
What are their plans with the locomotive? If they have an operational Plymouth switcher around, it seems they must have a decent bit of line to run passenger excursions and added an inspection pit in the shop, are they planning on a potential overhaul and bringing it back into service?
Right now only 400 feet of track. We are seeking grant money to extend the track and get her back under steam, so wish us luck! Appreciate your writing in and for watching Patrick.
Great question Will and someday will do a full video on that. Some transit rail with really sharp degree curvature is pre bent when rolled. However most all rail for freight is straight and must be curved. To do that: bolt one end of the track together to existing rail, then start bending the rail by hand using lining bars and setting spikes behind to hold it in place. The lining bars or slate bars have pointed ends and we put those in tie plate holes and use that as a pry point to push the rail with the bar. Lessor degree curves 2 guys can do it, but with sharper degree curves it takes 3 or 4 guys on the lining bars.
@@ccrx6700 dang! I thought there might be enough flex in a length of rail but it’s still incredible to hear that. Would love to see that being done. Thanks for the reply!
No George we didn't tamp anything, the 2B gravel we used packed in pretty well as it was and because the loco moved so slow over the track there really was not a need to tamp, also this is right now a static display so we don't need to worry bout track shifting. If we do get a dip in track then we will hand jack and tamp with lining bars.

Probably not for a long time. It is set up so we can run it off compressed air, so that may be next years project to get that completed. Do appreciate your tuning in and watching the show.
So your next job is notching the doors so they will close all the way , loll, nice job, guy and the prettiest bar holder on the Chan, lol!!? 👌☝️👍🎉✅🥳👏👏👏👏🩸👏👏👏👏thanks BigAl California.
Thanks Al, do appreciate your writing in and for watching today's show my friend. And yes she is the prettiest tie nipper I've ever had! LOL.... great girl and a lot of fun to be around too.
Very good question Captain. They do have the whistle but take it off and store it inside so it doesn't grow legs and walk away, you understand what I mean there. The loco is set up so it can run off compressed air instead of steam and that will hopefully be a near future event to get that going and yes the whistle will blow on compressed air and will be a big hit with the kids and us older kids! Appreciate your tuning in and watching the show today my friend.
Thank you Stephen, appreciate your tuning in and watching tonight. They have 400 feet track here and we rehabilitated all of it. Only the track out front of the loco garage was completely redone from scratch. I'm not sure the exact footage on that part tho.
I don't know if you are covered by OSHA, but I would think steel toed boot, hard hat, and safety glasses would be required. Even if not required, they are smart to wear.
There's only 400 feet here now, it's just a static display. We talking about making a big circle around the society but that is gonna take a lot of money and time to accomplish. Appreciate your tuning in and watching the home movie today.
It's 80 pound rail Andy. The ties out back are 8 foot 6 inches, these out front have about 2 foot cut off them. Appreciate your writing in and for watching my good man. (cutting ties is very hard on chain saw chains so they only did the front with the regulation size ties)
Hope you find some Lawren, if you want to come to Waynesburg Pa. we can probably help you out. Do appreciate your tuning in and watching the home movie today.
That's very interesting Dave, can anyone join the association? It would be something is be interested if I could, I'm fairly close in Belle Vernon, I would volunteer, would love to learn anything new I can about any type of railroad, narrow or 56 1/2 gauge. Thanks for posting Dave👍🏼😎

Thanks my good friend, everyone here did a great job and were a
lot of fun to work with and be around. We replaced our #1 under pass

quick once the foundations were poured. I'll do a short video on
the inside of that sometime for you next year.

How fabulous, Dave! Great work, great tracks! Now just don't extend them across the driveway or you'll hit the print shop! Please say Merry Christmas to your team and to all of my Greene County friends!
Thank you Pete for the very nice comment. We are trying to get some grant money to extend the track, hopefully a loop around the society
and also get #4 back under steam. That's gonna take some
doing! Print shop has to go if that happens.... they didn't like it

I love ur vids Dave. I never saw bolts that small on joint bars (plates) before. I'm sure that's not what u use on your railroad.

Thanks Mike, everyone worked hard and did a great job here,
they were a lot of fun to work with. Regular track speed, bout 1 MPH...LOL
#ccrx 6700 do you add a 1/4 inch. to the track gauge? That was how I was told to do it what I worked for a short line to keep the rail and wheel wear down.
Very good question Mike. Here they wanted to keep it right at 36.
I've always been a proponent of gauge widening on sharp degree
curves on the Cumberland RR where I work, specially with our
3 axle locomotive trucks. However not anyone there has wanted to
agree with me on that one. I think it would cut down on high rail
curve wear on the gage face of the rail head and also ease some
wear on the car and loco wheels also. We have a lot of curves over
8 degrees, some are up to 12 degrees on main. Seems like it
was common practice in the days of steam.
Looking great is this steam locomotive going to be restored to operating condition?
Thank you. For the near future no on the loco, we are checking into
some grant money so we can extend track and get loco back under
steam, but you know how that goes. Do appreciate your tuning in
to the show today my good man. PS: it is set up to run off compressed air so that may be next years project getting that
accomplished.
What are their plans with the locomotive? If they have an operational Plymouth switcher around, it seems they must have a decent bit of line to run passenger excursions and added an inspection pit in the shop, are they planning on a potential overhaul and bringing it back into service?
Right now only 400 feet of track. We are seeking grant money to
extend the track and get her back under steam, so wish us luck!
Appreciate your writing in and for watching Patrick.
What is the gauge of the track?
36 inches here Kevin. Appreciate your tuning in and watching
the show tonight my good man.
What size of rail are they using? I remember doing this on the Huckleberry RR as it is 3-foot gauge also. We used 90 and 75 lb rail with 6 ft 6 ties.
80 pound rail here Roy. Thanks very much for stopping by and watching the home movie my friend.
How do you curve the rails for curves like that? Is the rail flexible enough to just put into curve by hand or is there machinery?
Great question Will and someday will do a full video on that. Some transit rail with really sharp degree curvature is pre bent when
rolled. However most all rail for freight is straight and must be
curved. To do that: bolt one end of the track together to existing
rail, then start bending the rail by hand using lining bars and setting
spikes behind to hold it in place. The lining bars or slate bars have
pointed ends and we put those in tie plate holes and use that
as a pry point to push the rail with the bar. Lessor degree curves 2 guys can do it, but with sharper degree curves it takes 3 or 4 guys
on the lining bars.
@@ccrx6700 dang! I thought there might be enough flex in a length of rail but it’s still incredible to hear that. Would love to see that being done. Thanks for the reply!
@@willb.383 👍
Did you tamp the ballast with the jackhammer?
No George we didn't tamp anything, the 2B gravel we used packed
in pretty well as it was and because the loco moved so slow
over the track there really was not a need to tamp, also this
is right now a static display so we don't need to worry bout
track shifting. If we do get a dip in track then we will hand jack
and tamp with lining bars.
Where can I get a spike driver tip for our railway impact driver?

compressed air, so that may be next years project to get that
completed. Do appreciate your tuning in and watching the show.

DAVE ! By any chance is the whistle/horn still on that LOCO ? How hard would it be to run a airline out to it so the kids could "TOOT" the horn ?
Very good question Captain. They do have the whistle but take it
off and store it inside so it doesn't grow legs and walk away, you
understand what I mean there. The loco is set up so it can run
off compressed air instead of steam and that will hopefully be
a near future event to get that going and yes the whistle will blow
on compressed air and will be a big hit with the kids and us older
kids! Appreciate your tuning in and watching the show today my friend.

track out front of the loco garage was completely redone from
scratch. I'm not sure the exact footage on that part tho.
I don't know if you are covered by OSHA, but I would think steel toed boot, hard hat, and safety glasses would be required. Even if not required, they are smart to wear.

How far do they plan to build the railroad ?
