Maui attempted to take the heart of Hine-nui-te-Po (the goddessof death). Maui asked all the creatures of the forest to remain still. As he entered he was followed by a curious Piwakawaka (native fantail) who couldn't remain still and in excitement tweeted while fluttering about waking Hine-Nui. As she woke, Maui tried to escape but was distracted by the tail of the Piwakawaka and killed. The Taiaha (longstaff) represents the swift movement and fluttering swift movements of this event and the lashing of feathers on a taiaha represents the tail of this story. The mere is used to take the final blow and release the souls of the fallen with honour.
in the right hands the mere pounamu is an amazing technology of anti gravitational properties a device that the mareikura tohunga matakite used. its powers are legendary planet destroying sort of legendary and these tohunga mareikura who wielded them are still with us we have to find and unlock them, them or those with this gift because it is not a weapon it is a ancient modern device.

Why are they called clubs, when the correct way to use them resembles a short sword or long dagger? The stone material is not enough of an explanation, or is a very bad explanation at the very least!
That weapon is a Mere Pounamu! A very powerful weapon to say the least, especially in the right hands. A club is how I would explain it to anyone interested. I have two of them, one has been pasted down from my great great great grandfather it has witnessed many deaths. And my other one was an Anniversary gift from my wife.

solid stone
Cheak out a movie called crocked Earth , there's a few awesome movies showing maori fighting
birth & death
no escape
the training for the Warrior

teach the quickest way to kill
using the club.....
efficiency & skill

Everything used by Maori had a meaning and a purpose.
