Cs-137 is a β- and γ-emitter. Both kinds are long ranged and γ-radiation goes trough material, so they were all exposed to radiation, although probably not strong enough to cause serious long term problems
Genuinely, i hope none of the people who are getting so pissed at that kid ever have children because y'all are going to end up raising terrible kids or you're just gonna generally traumatize them In such a situation, I'd say that those kids are acting MORE rational than they would realistically. I'd expect a bunch of the kids to be trying to open the windows and trying to get answers as to why the firemen aren't properly helping them (it is, also, a valid question; someone else in the comments stated that in a situation such as this, the immediate response should be to get the kids and anyone else to safety rather than focus solely on containing the hazardous materials). Kids don't act rationally as it is. You can say all you want about how in such a situation that you'd listen and not even consider opening the window in the first place, but the fact of the matter is you're not the only one in that situation anyway, so if you don't, someone else just might. It doesn't matter what you'd do, it doesn't matter how dumb you think the kids are, you're not some super soldier who reacts with stoicism in any dangerous situation, you're human, and humans don't react well under stress, especially when they don't really know exactly whats going on.

Tho it's also a powered that was tossed and literally they explained that it was in the air now radiation wouldn't have been bad if it was just exposure but an incredibly dangerous thing is radioactive particles literally in you're lungs and body which he was exposed to
@@avaavalon2467 I know how radiation works, the thing is radiation had a tendency to decay, and also from where he was, to where the caesium was, I wouldn’t be surprised if all the particles had decayed before they would have even gotten to him, the only real exposure would have just been moving it. Radiation Kills cells and alters DNA But they use Cesium and cobalt^60 to blast them with high amounts of concentrated radiation to kill the cancer cells

Câncer no, but intoxication for RADIATION yes
Genuinely, i hope none of the people who are getting so pissed at that kid ever have children because y'all are going to end up raising terrible kids or you're just gonna generally traumatize them
In such a situation, I'd say that those kids are acting MORE rational than they would realistically.
I like how the kid is just like “oh ok”
Respect to that man he sacrifised himself to save the kids
Can we take the time to appreciate that this man just sacrificed his life for these children and could die from the exposure of this stuff... 💔💔 Let's take some time to respect this man 😢😢😢❤❤❤❤
Everyone’s like “he sacrificed himself” when that amount of caesium would have most likely not have killed him.
Edit: if you’re going to say it would be in the wound remember that cleaning things out is possible.
i think prolonged exposure might be more dangerous
@@mtgust9614 yeah but being close to caesium for the amount of time he was wouldn’t be fatal and at most would increase cancer risk by a small margin
Shows can’t get things right like always smh
@@MushuaThePotatosome radioactive elements can take up to millions of years to reach their half life (as in, half of the particles of the prior element have decayed). Caesium 137 has a half life of 30 years. Therefore, the particles would absolutely not have all decayed unless the rescuers were to wait hundreds of years

Cs-137 is a β- and γ-emitter. Both kinds are long ranged and γ-radiation goes trough material, so they were all exposed to radiation, although probably not strong enough to cause serious long term problems

@@Sd.Kfz.161_KwK40Beta particles don’t really travel that far through air but gamma radiation does. Although gamma rays pass through your body for the most part so it would only be dangerous if there was a ton of it. In reality, the kids in the bus were completely fine. Even the guy handling the source would have been fine too, especially if he dealt with the source as quickly as possible and if the source wasn’t too radioactive. Obviously it’s in powder form so it would have been trickier to handle but nevertheless the kids would have been fine.
Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong but I looked it up and instead of *treating* Cancer, Cesium *increases risk* for cancer
Depends on the ammount of exposure, if you are getting treated by a specialist administering right doses in radiotherapy, you will be just fine.
Duh
Radiation Kills cells and alters DNA But they use Cesium and cobalt^60 to blast them with high amounts of concentrated radiation to kill the cancer cells
Yo get this cesium 137 is used in machine that requires radiation to operate like x ray and stud like that but straight exposure? Dead
It can kill cancer cells (mutated regular cells) and it is possible to administer it in a dose directly into the targeted area so that it doesn’t damage other cells (as long as the amount of Cs is very small)
