      Hey Dani! There’s 2 countries, used to be 3 until Germany 🇩🇪 pulled out of 2020 edition, that participated in every single MU competition in history. My biggest surprise was that USA wasn’t one of them (being that USA is the home base of the org). If you find any interesting information on these 2 countries (and wouldn’t be sad if Germany was included too), I would love to see a video on them ☺️

    the 70th MU startled the audiences with unprecedented placements such as The Bahamas, Singapore, Aruba. which is astounding. I hope in the upcoming years they will generalize the capability of other queens from nations longing for placements for years. It is a huge surprise if they can break the assumption that only when it comes to powerhouse like Phillipines, South Africa, USA,... they will definitely be in high placements, even secure for the crown regardless of other contestants' potentials.

      Regarding Vietnam, I believe there will be eventually a time when Miss Universe would give them their first win, when the stars aligned in their favor. (H'hen Nie in 2018 was really close to winning if not for the question she got. If the question were only about education or poverty instead, she might've gotten a Top 3 slot.) Just like how we have always gotten the fan-vote-based Miss Photogenic Award in the mid 2000s and our lively scream when Venus finally broke the "curse" in 2010.

      As for new countries to place, it would be interesting to see some Asian or European countries to place for the first time. Romania, Malta, Cameroon, and Cambodia have never placed but they have been sending really beautiful and well-prepared girls lately. It would also be good to see Malaysia place after 52 years (their first and only placement so far was way back in 1970), as well as Korea (last placement was 2007).

    This is an eye opener for those countries… I hope their national directors will try to adjust their standards in training and selecting their representatives for beauty pageants in general., they must always set their minds with that desire to win as well… I can feel those countries performing well are the most determined to win… they invest in training and all those stuffs that will equip their girls more than the others..
    In some ways, pageants had been our sport here in the Philippines.. as well as basketball and boxing… and recently almost all the events that our country will be participating.. most of the Filipinos are engaged in the journey of our queens and athletes, and we make sure that we have done the best support we can possibly provide them with regardless if we like the person or not. if he or she is a Filipino fighting for our country’s honor we give them our love and support…
    And may these countries try to consider your recommendations as well…
    Thanks for the wonderful content… ❤️❤️❤️

    Love this video! I began watching the Miss Korea pageant when I decided to learn the language as a kid. I was quite excited for them when they split the Miss Korea pageant from the pageant that selects universe and Supranational winners, but i wish they would step up the game a bit. I feel like the Korea title holders are decent in interview and have great English skills (most) but the styling has been very princess for them. Off my memory I don't think korea has placed since Honey Lee which isn't a shocker, but highly upsetting. They need stronger stage performers and choreography.

      There’s no shortage of strong, and charismatic Egyptian women; How to convince them to enter Miss Universe Egypt is the question :) The fate of Miss Universe Egypt is at the hands of the organizers on the national level, so they have to see the value in these women too. Some countries don’t like well-educated and outspoken women as their representative. I don’t know if that’s the case for Egypt because I don’t live there or read what the news says on beauty queens, but I’ve seen this for other countries that send ‘beautiful representatives that never place’.

    Wow I loved this episode Dani! Loved the stats paired with your thoughts. This must have been lots to research throughout the entire history of MU. Idn why I’m surprised that Great Britain 🇬🇧 has only had 5 placements in the entire MU history. Unless GB always went 100 into their homegrown pageant Miss World and went just for fun to Miss Universe. This year, I thought for sure Pascale Belony would place for Haïti 🇭🇹 She was so outgoing and friendly behind the scenes, and gave such strong interviews.

    • @KuyaBJLaurente
      @KuyaBJLaurente 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the reasons why Great Britain only had 5 placements in Miss Universe are:
      1. Great Britain used to be represented as its 3 constituent countries (Scotland, England, Wales) and not as one. The closest these 3 ever had to the crown were 1st runner-up finishes in 1974 (Wales) and 1980 (Scotland).
      2. Lack of interest on beauty pageants among Europeans. Miss World used to be aired at BBC (Britain's biggest TV network) until it decided to stop airing beauty pageants in 1984. Imagine your country's homegrown pageant losing its broadcasting rights with the country's biggest network. In the Philippine context, it's like imagining Binibining Pilipinas not being broadcasted both by GMA and ABS-CBN.

    Ukraine and Czech Republic did well during the Trump Era as they tend to be consdired as Trump/MUO picks (he has a fondness for Eastern European beauties) into the top 15/16 and at least for Czech Republic was usually eliminated prior to top 10. IMO, those Trump picks were only selected because he liked them for being facially beautiful, but were rarely strong contenders and usually never made it past the first cut. Out of all the countries mentioned in this video, I think Jamaica or Great Britain could be closest to winning.

    Curacao also got 3rd or 4th runner up in 1997 with Verna Vasquez.(as I was corrected.) my apologies.

    I think the problem is that in a lot of these countries the girls themselves are given the responsibility to prepare themselves for international competition and that includes learning how to do hair and makeup on their own and finding their own wardrobes. That’s why there’s so much inconsistency, as oppose to countries like Venezuela and Thailand which has a big team taking care of everything for their contestant. In a recent Instagram interview, Oxana revealed that she had to buy that iconic Gucci evening gown with her own money and it only arrived a few days before the finals.

    Nicaragua had 4 placements, 1974, 2007, 2013* (had mistakely put 2015 before edit), and recently, in 2020. I feel the only consistency they have is inconsistency. The director keeps changing the production crew and struggles with funding and patrons, and though there are beautiful girls, she charges too much to compete, so unprepared girls are the ones competing for the national crown. Not not mention, they keep having the national competition close to the international date, which does not give them any time for the queens to prepare. Pageant fans (which has been exponentially growing in Nicaragua, we have a bigger fan base than band heavy countries in Latin America), have been complaining and requesting a new director for the pageant, so it can be more fruitful.
