Yes - showing all tools up front is good. Running through the planned steps quickly is good. Timie-lapsing all the work is good. Keeping the whole thing under 20 min is good.
I prefer the longer, more detailed investigations/repairs. Whether you split it up into pieces or longer videos covering multiple jobs (such as those on M539 Restorations channel) is up to you. Shorter vids at a more frequent interval will probably help your channel to grow.
Showing a detail sequence of the work does show how many steps it needs to get things done… and time. Great workmanship, knowledge and skills. Thank you Magic Mike.
I came specifically because Mike bread it down like this. At the beginning, he went over the tools used, plus his video capture helps explain it more thoroughly which I like.
I think a walkthrough of all the issues you found with the car followed by a walkthrough of each repair would be helpful if others are trying to do the same job. If some of the repairs are tricky or require special tools/knowledge, a step by step would be great.
@Christiaan Sidell, yep I agree, step-by-step is very helpful for others who are doing the same type of repair. I think it's also a good idea to indicate what tools are being used, especially specialized tools. I know some mechanics have a good habit of actually explaining what fasteners etc., that they're removing next AND they give the size of each fastener! This is so helpful to anyone prepping to do a job so they know what tools/sockets they need to set aside before beginning instead of having to rummage through half a dozen sockets/wrenches looking for the one that fits! As a side note, Mike had no problem with getting things back together but another common practice for keeping up with bolts & where they go, is to make a rough drawing of a part on ridged cardboard, then make slightly undersized holes in it as you remove each bolt from the part and just push the bolts through the cardboard so it'll hold the bolts in place till you need them.
To be honest, it's the fantastic sound track that transports the viewer squarely into the mind of the water pump. We truly feel it's guilt, it's deception, throwing fault at the supercharger and idler bearings, but knowing deep inside that it simply cannot pump like it used to. A wonderful video Mike, it's almost .....magic....
I appreciate the detailed, step by step investigation/repair videos. This video was detailed enough, informative, and I especially appreciate showing what tools are used to perform the repair and how they are used. The music was perfect- all too often videos meant to inform or educate are performed to a near heavy-metal soundtrack that doesn't suit the subject matter. I can listen to a piano instrumental all day. Great job Mike!
great job - these help even us noobs who aren't necessarily trying to be mechanics ourselves to comprehend what is going on inside the magic fire monster
I enjoy Hoovie, Wizard, Car Ninja, etc. the whole youtube group you guys have going on in Kansas and I'm impressed you all manage to make content without interfering with each other negatively.
Great job! Thanks for laying out the tools you used and for what! One video thing, try not to start your music at the same point after each explanation.
Michael your editing skills make your videos really engaging to watch and whatever style that today’s was filmed in was the perfect amount of detail that I enjoy. We got the sense of the complexity without getting bogged down in too many details. I can see that I would not attempt this replacement without having the proper tools. What is the book time for a water pump replacement like this? It’s fantastic to see your channel grow into whatever you are comfortable with!
This old guy learned a few good tips from your TH-cam. I will be buying a set of the hose removal tools. I think the idea of placing the bolts removed from the MB water pump into the new water pump to keep track of the right locations for the bolts is brilliant. Still wrenching at 80.
For me, this would be daunting and full of cuss words. I like the details, but I also understand how much that might slow you down. Try both! Great share.
I think you are doing a great job... not only as a mechanic, but also as a neophyte TH-camr! I personally like shorter "update" or quick job videos, with the occasional marathon, or continuing progress longer format style vids. But I already like your style... you sound very natural and unrehearsed (which is not that easy) and don't be afraid to let your sense of humor shine from time to time. You have a big fan here...
Detailed. Even though I own different manufacturers vehicles, there's information that's useful universally that I personally think would be helpful for us hobbyist and backyard mechanics that are trying to take care of our own vehicles and have to rely on interwebs resources. Thanks again for another great video!
I really enjoy detailed mechanical work, including issues/problems, performed by someone like Magic Mike - an experienced and proficient mechanic. Stuff like Streten at M539 restorations does.
Mike, I am one of your Hoovie viewers and don't own a Merc. Love this level of detail, I'll never do this myself but enjoy the quality you put into your repairs. Any more detail and you might get into the weeds for some viewers. Thanks for doing this. Hope it pays enough to keep the gift for yourself.
The step by step process is better and more complete for the tech who is challenged by the same repair and the video takes of the other things around the repair is insightful as well.
I like the detailed video. It reminds me of being younger when I worked on my own cars. I also work at a BAP/Geon foreign parts store and seeing the Beck Arnley box brought back a flood of memories. They were our crosstown rivals and friends.
Hi Mike. I would say that your style of detailing and the tools used in the repair is very informative for someone that is attempting this task. Also, it is refreshing because other videos may not show step by step which is going to have the person attempting the task fail potentially. Thank you!
Good video, nice work 👍. Watching you work on that late model Mecedes convinces me to hang on to my old 1984 190D, I can replace the water pump on it in about 20 minutes. Keep the videos coming.
I think overall you are finding your voice and format. By far this format I see you the most comfortable and showing and explaining the audience your skills. Glad you are playing with different formats and seeing what’s fits for you. Best of luck.
Small updates are good shipmate. Also easier to make shorter films, then you can add them into a larger update when the project is finished, or it comes time to sell.
Thanks for doing the Benz. Whatever you did today was great. Someday I'll get one but I'm that much further ahead now. It was good you concentrated on one job. Also there are people struggling with the basics on brake jobs and hose replacements even oil changes. I just rebuilt the drums on a 97 Taurus and of course I had to bend new tubing from the hose to the new wheel cyl. Laying that out was hard and took several attempts. I started watching Hoovie occasionally then more often then a lot. Then Wizard, then Jr, then Johnny, Euronation Bob, and so on....Good stuff.
Fantastic to see these video's, great tip sorting the bolts that way, for some reason they design it with at least 20 different bolts indeed. Me as a hobby mechanic, i learn a lot from watching this stuff, greatly appreciate it. cheers!🙂
Nice music along with good content. You present what needs to be done succinctly without extra nonsense. I like both types: Over view and then detail. Mix and match them.
This was *GREAT* . I think these focused episodes pull us more into the task at hand, following along each step, and see the methodical order that steps are performed. They are just the right size to keep high level focus for us distracted viewers, so that we can appreciate each increment of progress. *MUSIC* By the way, I love the music. It accompanies, rather than distracts. And it puts my mind in a meditative, calm mode, more receptive to the information you are imparting. It's such a welcome change from the twangy "bro rock, yeah !" that nearly all car channels use, but that you know in real life, only 10% of the mechanics actually listen to. All the best and greetings from Prague.
i used to stay at the shop after everybody left a d work on my stuff too. it feels good to have someone to trust you that much ........ plus the stillness and quiet is a hole different world than business hours
I view these channels ( car/motorcycle repairs, woodworking, boat building) as learning opportunities. When I was instructing people in my area of work, the hardest thing for me was to convey, were the step by step details that were automatic for me but left the other person perplexed and missing out on critical information. Also important for me is to know the why things are done in a certain way. You’re doing great, keep it up and take care,
Mike, I really like your methodical approach to your work and I think it makes it easy to demonstrate clearly how the job is done. I don't recall any other TH-cam mechanics taking this detailed approach to car repairs and therefore I think this could bring you a lot of views and subscribers. Best Wishes.
This is a great compliment to the wizard side of the channel I know this is your own independent channel Mike. The wizard likes to give a high level detailed view of his content he never really does any hands on he always gives us the 10000' view. I like your detailed videos and I would like more of them thank you
Thanks Mike. Your detailed approach to this repair is very helpful. Non Mercedes owner here but that engine looks powerful. Best of luck to you and keep the videos going. Safe travels.
I loved it ! That's the day to day stuff a mechanics goes by. Showing the bolts order out and backed in, looking at the residual coolant liquid... You shared your eyes, your ears... and your thoughts process on that job ! Good balance of rythm and detailing. Very kind of you Mike to share your magic :D And that would be great on any other project, no car needed ;-)
I like the more detailed and more frequent repairs like this one, but then you could also do condensed updates for those who don't want the detail or frequency.
Your question about detailed repair videos or overall this is me entertainment. You’re really talking about two different styles of videos. With two different end goals. One being a tutorial based, the other more of a day in the life with Magic Mike. If I’m trying to find a video on how to repair a specific car of course you know which one I would want, and it would be most appreciated. Although if coming to your channel because I want to be entertained by a personality, then the latter would suffice, and that would be the one to potentially attract subs.
Great video! I had an '03 SLK320, and it was a great vehicle. Only things on the engine that I had to replace were the cam and crank position sensors. The only other issue was with the door locks, requiring a replacement vacuum motor - the locks work off of vacuum, which is interesting.
Do these videos! These kinds of videos is your strength. I like the nuances I learn from you fixing the car. I don't care what car you have and how they look. I like seeing you fixing broken things on any car. Maybe also show how you diagnose problems you did a little of that in this video. I would like to see you find problems and then show how you diagnose the problem and then how u fix the problem and then have the car start and show us how much better the car is after fixing that problem. Cheers and keep up the good work
Hey Michael, I enjoyed the video. I like the format you used in this one that was more detail oriented and especially liked that you walked through which tools you'd use at the start. Keep up the good work!
More updates, more better.
I love the attention to detail. Not just pulling the belt, but checking everything. Few 'mechanics' even do that.
@magicmikethemechines Fake account - reported to TH-cam.
Listing out what tools you're using before the start is excellent and really helps save a lot of time rummaging for the right socket and stuff!
Yes - showing all tools up front is good. Running through the planned steps quickly is good. Timie-lapsing all the work is good. Keeping the whole thing under 20 min is good.
I was waiting for the 10mm to go missing 😅
also, calling out all the proper torque values would be great too.
Those are hard to find.
I prefer the longer, more detailed investigations/repairs. Whether you split it up into pieces or longer videos covering multiple jobs (such as those on M539 Restorations channel) is up to you. Shorter vids at a more frequent interval will probably help your channel to grow.
Streten on M539 is awesome!!!
Ehh i like longer videos
Showing a detail sequence of the work does show how many steps it needs to get things done… and time. Great workmanship, knowledge and skills. Thank you Magic Mike.
I came specifically because Mike bread it down like this. At the beginning, he went over the tools used, plus his video capture helps explain it more thoroughly which I like.
Yup. Show us the work. It helps.
These detailed steps are very interesting.
More Magic Mike Step-by-Step. This is also of interest to Chrysler Crossfire owners Great channel.
I like the tip for keeping track of what bolts go where.
I think a walkthrough of all the issues you found with the car followed by a walkthrough of each repair would be helpful if others are trying to do the same job. If some of the repairs are tricky or require special tools/knowledge, a step by step would be great.

It's great seeing the step by step video's
I like the piece by piece videos 🙏👌
Your videography is better than miss wizard...
👍👍👍👍
Step by step is fun. Not a car I'll ever drive but watching you work is interesting.
@magicmikethemechines Oh no you don't! Not falling for that....again. I have no need of a "slightly used" water pump.
@magicmikethemechines How the hell has youtube not got this fixed yet? I'm guessing they are getting in on the fraud.
@magicmikethemechines scammer hammer
I agree that the sound track was excellent.
great job - these help even us noobs who aren't necessarily trying to be mechanics ourselves to comprehend what is going on inside the magic fire monster
only slight critique - music level was a bit higher than your voice, so I was turning volume up & down - hope that's helpful and not complain-y
I like when you do the repairs step by step like this video. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for sharing your talents Michael, from car repairs to music. Awesome seeing your channel starting to gain viewers.
Please keep the videos detailed and step by step. Keep up the good work!
I enjoy Hoovie, Wizard, Car Ninja, etc. the whole youtube group you guys have going on in Kansas and I'm impressed you all manage to make content without interfering with each other negatively.
Loving your videos! Love to see the wrenching on the cars… I would prefer more of a step by step style to these videos.
Great job! Thanks for laying out the tools you used and for what! One video thing, try not to start your music at the same point after each explanation.
These no nonsense videos are absolutely the best
Step by step! The more detailed the better! It keeps me motivated on my own projects!
!! Hell yeah !! Thanks for being an active user you have been luckly selected for the giveaway

The presentation of the tools before the work is a great idea. Thanks M2.
I love watching repairs step-by-step. Thanks MM!
Your videos are up with the best for detail and it's greatly appreciated by a fellow Mercedes owner :) Keep up the great work Mike!
Michael your editing skills make your videos really engaging to watch and whatever style that today’s was filmed in was the perfect amount of detail that I enjoy. We got the sense of the complexity without getting bogged down in too many details.

What is the book time for a water pump replacement like this?
It’s fantastic to see your channel grow into whatever you are comfortable with!
It's good seeing the AMG getting back to its former glory.
Great job, clear explanation! How many hours does this job pay? Yes, more videos like this one!
A mix of step by step vids and more general repairs is my preference. I like to see the gems that you use to make the job easier.
my vote is for detailed, I like longer videos when they're mechanical
Your video is excellent! You are doing great on edits. Do not change content .
This old guy learned a few good tips from your TH-cam. I will be buying a set of the hose removal tools. I think the idea of placing the bolts removed from the MB water pump into the new water pump to keep track of the right locations for the bolts is brilliant. Still wrenching at 80.
Hi my name is also Mike and I too drive a Mercedes. I'm very interested in seeing detailed instructional from you and the wizard. Thank you ✌🏿
Liked how this video was enough detail to actually do the job. Too many cut out steps. Not that I have this car, but still enjoyable. Thanks Mike!
For me, this would be daunting and full of cuss words. I like the details, but I also understand how much that might slow you down. Try both! Great share.
Good work! 👍
Nice job!

Appreciate your paced, expertise presentation. The repairs as a detailed exercises are very satisfying to watch. Thank you !

I like the detailed video. It reminds me of being younger when I worked on my own cars. I also work at a BAP/Geon foreign parts store and seeing the Beck Arnley box brought back a flood of memories. They were our crosstown rivals and friends.
Fantastic content. As an old, retired mechanic your skill is nonpareille. Enjoyable to watch.
Hi Mike. I would say that your style of detailing and the tools used in the repair is very informative for someone that is attempting this task. Also, it is refreshing because other videos may not show step by step which is going to have the person attempting the task fail potentially. Thank you!

I like the detail and seeing how a professional does the job as I like to wrench on my own Mercedes and learn new ways to do a job.

Nice music along with good content. You present what needs to be done succinctly without extra nonsense. I like both types: Over view and then detail. Mix and match them.
A very impressive and sensible way of managing the water pump bolts. Neat.
I like the step by step videos Mike, Most channels skip over the finer details which I find most important. Love your work.

Mike, love hearing your music! I like to see detail steps that I can refer back to as I do my own repairs.
Step by step with good descriptions. Thanks. Great Job
Your (from what I assume) piano playing adds a nice complement to the sped up parts of this video. Bravo Mike

I like the in detail approach and showing what you are doing.
I enjoyed watching you going through the entire process.
Great that you’re doing your own music too! We’re opposites - I’m a hobby mechanic and a pro musician!
The homegrown piano music reminds me of Hobo Stobe. Mike, this detailed content is great!
The attention to detail was great. This video style is very good.
