    2010 New Garden Airshow
    New Garden Flying Field
    Toughkenamon, Pennsylvania
    Sunday June 13, 2010
IN THIS VIDEO, if you ever thought how a large aircraft like a B-17 can get out of the New Garden Flying Field, this video will show you. Take note of how wide the landing gear is on the bomber and how difficult it was to get the plane from where it was parked to the runway. I do apologize for the takeoff portion of the video, as I was shooting blindly because of the large barrage of Civil Air Patrol cadets at the crowd line by the end of the runway as well as the show aircraft blocking the view of the runway. I'm told the B-17 used all 3,600 feet of runway JUST TO GET AIRBORNE!
The B-17 did not fly on Saturday for reasons beyond my knowledge, and I was very happy to see it fly on Sunday.
If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take the time to check out Steve's Airshow World at www.stevesairsh... .

I'm blind, so i can only imagine what this plane looks like, but what a sound! And, I too, appreciate that you didn't put any music over this video and that it's in full stereo. If only more people did that! It's enough to have the announcer and the music already playing over the loud speakers, and that music did it justice. What a blast!

this is what the b-52 of today was back in WWII. A piece of history still flying today. Thanks for the upload.

Note that this B-17 is a replica of the actual B-17F-10-BO (Boeing/Seatlle-Built-10th production block) 'Memphis Belle' that is now undergoing full restoration at the Museum of the
U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. This B-17 is actually a B-17G-85-DL(Douglas Aircraft/Long Beach built-85th production block)that was configured back by the late warbird collector David Tallichet into appearing as a B-17F for the 1989 movie 'Memphis Belle'. It was a former fire bomber. Excellent work.

memphis belle, based in geneseo, ny where i volunteer . i helped push this aircraft into the hanger for winter storage. she sure is wonderful. it took many people and a dodge 1 ton pickup tug to put this aircraft away. i was also one of the last people to see it running in 2010 before we put her away. all 4 engines were ran up before storage.

I think, and i might be wrong, but i think she was a B-17F and that model was before the chin turret was added

@drod103164 It depended a lot on what time frame of the war and in what theater really... the crew of the Memphis Belle did 25 missions because the Army Air Corp decided to use them as PR back home to drive up the sales of war bonds... plus mainy frowned upon daylight bombing due to the amount of losses... so pretty much we ran bomb runs during the day and the Brits sent up their Lancasters at night...

The B-17F model had no chin turret, while the B-17G model had the chin turret. The G was a later built model.

I have loved this aircraft all my life. I finally flew aboard the Collings Foundation B-17G Nine-O-Nine; it was the experience of a lifetime. I was also privileged to donate over 100 rounds of .50 for her nose guns.
Though this is not my video, I would like to dedicate it to the 18-25 year olds who flew these birds in WW-II. They were "heroes all."

@drod103164 That isn't entirely accurate. Several crews actually did 40-50 missions....

Wes, that's not the real Memphis Belle. She's the one used in the movie of the same name. The real MB is being restored but will end up in a museum and not flown again. This one will carry for her for airshows.
