Had gave courtesy rides before. Was an officer for thirty years and he is like most of the officers not the exception.

@@DianeJennings as a American id like to at least throw it out there, the guy was probably lyfting in his family’s/friends account. People often do this when they get a dui or something because Lyft wont directly hire them. So they cheat the system by doing it in their friends account

Really good show and I'm glad you are safe. It's always better to travel anywhere, with someone else. Police are underpaid. They are constantly in conflicts and the things they have to deal with are insanely dangerous.
It's called situational awareness and you seem to have a good amount of it. Very happy that you keep safe and do not cower to intimidation. Sorry that you had to go through that but quite glad that you kept your cool and prevailed.

One of my brothers is a retired cop. At family gatherings, after a while it seems that everyone have gravitated his way to hear the stories.

I get Uber Eats a lot, and it's not too uncommon for the car not to match what the app says, but drivers are the same and nobody's ever getting in the car, so not such a big deal.

Dianne - many police departments in the U.S. (and around the world) allow members of the public to do "ride-alongs" where a member of the public can drive around with police officers in the police vehicle while they are on duty. As far as I know, ride alongs in the U.S. are not restricted to citizens, so you could do a full ride along (several hours) on your next trip to the states. You do have to arrange them ahead of time. I'd be interested in watching you and seeing your reaction to a full ride along with a P.D. here in the U.S.
Diane, you were so smart and prepared in avoiding that potentially horrible situation. I enjoyed your interview with Officer Cory and is reason for becoming a policeman is one of the main reasons that my son gave for wanting to become a policeman. He just didn't want to sit in office, oddly enough he is now a sergeant and sits behind a desk for at least part of his day now.

He's a University of California cop. Generally, they're pretty chill. They're responsible for the individual University of California (state university) campuses and surrounding areas. They're also "real" police officers with jurisdiction like any other California police officers throughout the state of California. His dog seemed particularly friendly. 🙂

That was nice of the officer to drive you after that scary encounter. The content with your first ever ride in a police car I’m sure made up for the lost time from that sus Lyft driver. I saw a video about a woman who was waiting for an Uber or Lyft late at night after drinking with friends and a guy pulled up and she assumed he was her driver and jumped in his car. He wasn’t and she was found a day or so later unalived. They caught the guy thankfully and he went to jail. I’m glad you double checked that car and refused to get in. It’s scary out there!

Diane, I love your vids. FYI the weapon on the rack in the police car was most likely an AR-15 ( very popular among mass shooters here in the US.) it is modeled on the old M16 from the US Army. Keep up the amazing work and please stay safe!

The most popular weapon in mass shootings is actually pistols because they're easier to conceal. I will grant however that semi-auto weapons tend to have a higher body count but a "mass shooting" is defined as 3 or more victims.

There are a lot of cops like him, but let's not pretend everyone gets the same treatment that a pretty blonde with a foreign accent would get.

Ouch! My sister was almost kidnapped by traffickers in a grocery store but luckily she noticed them and notified the staff in the store and they told them to leave.

I had a roommate from England, we had just moved into a New apartment and she accidentally got off at the wrong stop, wondering around two police officers stopped and asked if she was lost and she said yes, so somehow (this was before cell phones), they got to a phone where she called me and ask what was our address, I had to tell her to hold on while I went to look at the door,lol, two blondes who had no idea what their address was. The officers were kind enough to drive her to our flat, thinking that wouldn't happen today, but you're situation gives me hope. Very smart of you Diane not to get into that car, hope you reported it to the company. Thanks for sharing.

anytime someone tries to scam you, take a picture of their face and the license plate of the car... you can use this to report them to the police so that they can get caught and charged.
Wow Diana, you have warned adults and kids of a personal experience that I personally would have probably hopped in after hearing my fake name. After you were smart, how were you not having panic attacks or trauma? Because you look cool as a cucumber.? I think I’m more scared for you.
Having said that, I can believe, like me, the two times I have been in a police officer’s car was without handcuffs, and because I needed help! Officer Cory, thank you for allowing her to take this great footage to share on her platform for people around the world to demonstrate what fantastic police officers like you and other blue lives do for people. I’m probably late to this video, but it would be really neat if you called in and requested a “ride along.” I think certain cities still allow it, but it has to be requested and they certainly do a background check so it may take a day or three or a week or three, but it would be amazing to see you do a Vlog as being a passenger in a ride along. The old system of yellow cabs was a lot safer. Sure Uber and Lyft have background checks, but there are easy ways around them. Diane is very saavy and aware, as she mentioned. A lot of people would have just got into the car when it pulled up.
Around here, as I suspect is the case elsewhere, The “old Yeller “ got comfortable with the lack of competition, and had allowed their service to deteriorate to the point that they were easy targets for upstarts like Über & Lyft to come in and steal their lunch money. Calling a cab meant an hour or more wait, an unclean car, and sketchy drivers.

The reason Corey didn’t go after the creepy Lyft driver is because, he was probably out of his jurisdiction. If you look at his car, the Department he works for is UC Irvine, which is a university in the University of California system. I’m not sure what it’s like where you live, but in the U.S. universities, especially ones run by the state, have their own police departments.
Usually, officers aren't allowed to give rides to civilians, but I think because of your Uber experience and accent, he thought it would be helpful. Glad you're a smart one and didn't get into the car! Stay safe out there.
Officers in the US can. They typically won't if you're just trying to use them as a taxi service, but after an accident or in a situation where you're in need they'll often offer a ride.
Courtesy rides are a thing and at officer's discretion. She's a tourist and just got creeped out by a lyft, pluse he's a university officer, no shade, but he's not patrolling a big city so he probably has some time for "community outreach"

Let up hope there's never a "next time", but if there is, if the sketch driver asks your name, just say, "Nope! Sorry, I'm ." And the reason Officer Cory didn't chase down the white car is that technically the driver didn't actually break a law. Glad it all worked out though. And so very glad you're still safe and with us.
