A 6 Meter Two Element Beam for Restricted Spaces

- Our Field Day is coming up, so we decided to build one for the 6 meter band and demonstrate the fun that can be had building and experimenting with antennas!
This is a Moxon antenna and it is a popular directional 2 element beam antenna that takes up less space (70%) than a standard yagi.

Hayden, you and the VK folks give more to amateur radio than any group on earth. I'm proud to know you. Moxon is a great choice for antennas and knowing the radius deduction is important.
Now folks know where old lawn chairs go to die. 🤣
Haha thanks Craig, appreciate your support 👍
used a moxon for 10m for years, a top performance gain antenna in a small package. I made a 10m version with a 6m parasitic element and it rocks.
When you get ten minutes go and order any of Les Moxons books from the RSGB, the guy was a genius..........
I have made a 2m moxon as i wanted the front to back radio. I works very well. I made the separation and mounting brackets on my 3d printer.
love the moxon, built my first for the 11m band a while back, it was my first (and a great) directional antenna
How are the SWR...
I have a Wimo badged 6/4m Moxon, and it’s construction is very similar to this, complete with the Stauff clamps. Their reflector comes as two pieces so uses two clamps and the metal is bridged of course. I think the gap for the feed is a little larger than 10mm, but probably not by much.
Great laugh watching this! Great work guys!
I was #65 to click 👍 , I also saw "Moxon" and smelt a Chuck KK6USY, nice to see Moxon talk in VK :)
I've got Les Moxon's book, and, there all called Moxon's .... HF antennas for all locations G6XN orig 1982 reprint 1995 N6GRG
this antenna is cool, i was thinking could it be done in copper tube with pre made right angles without needing a bending machine
I love that “Hippotenus” shirt!
Frigging awsome... 💯🤘
Looks like great fun
It was!
What a cool antenna build. Now I just need a 6m radio and a bit of space so I have an excuse to build one!
Just like my neighborhood, but with yutes! Even the plumbers crack is the same.
Radio began in Europe after the Metric System was adopted.
The primary gave-away begins with Band Designation, 160m, 80m ... 6m, 2m, 1.25m, etc.
Then we have, Kilo Cycles (kcs)...
Imperial differs from continent to continent.
Imperial is for Ludyts.
5:10 blissfully Imperial free
Thanks!
Thanks Juan!
@@HamRadioDX Hope to see you on the Magic Band, 73
In some places they’re called Rivnuts.
Really Like my 6M and 2M Moxons- they perform as well as 3 elements with a better F/B
U could make a smaller version which i think is about 10% smaller and make it into a super moxon
Like the lite beer commercial…”Tastes great. Less filling.”
In the aviation business a nutsert is called a “ rivnut”

I just felt that PL-259 comment at 14:10 about being perfect then realizing you forgot the screw on sleeve.....
Yep they call that an "Oh SHit" moment.
Lol everyone has done it!
and its always the most perfect connector youve ever fitted off.. except for that part, grrr! 🙄😂
Just moved my 2 ele 6 mtr moxon to a new tower yesterday, now the damn thing is playing up, did you ever decide on a balun ?

It’s a pity that the bottom portion of 6m is where the primary SSB & digital activity resides. I don’t think too many hang out on 52.100 for the standard license holders. The 6m band could have so much more potential.
With the new class license change, Standards will get access to the whole of 6m, so hopefully that will increase activity!
Which software you used to remove background noise and clear speech in this video ❤️
None
@@HamRadioDX 'corse not - it's "Straian", clearest speech in the world! In fact, some new broadcasts employ Australian voiceovers just to clear up poor audio recordings.
Good and solid with aluminium, very impressive.👍
Imperial is a dirty word!... so is mandatory that plumbers butt crack!😆
I need some new tools. Is imperial aluminum cheaper than metric aluminium?🤔😆👍
😂
Imperial AlumINIUM must be Sterling.
what type of motorized mast is that? Looks expensive. How about a video on the mast?
It is a hydraulic mast. I've done a couple of videos.

it doesn't make much sense to build a Moxon for the 6 m band, the antennas are very compact, perhaps a Deltaloop or cubical quad would be better if we're talking about field antennas, otherwise a Yagi Uda 7 fullsize elements

Awesome build Guys, and as I like to Moxon or go home Lol
Chuck! Is this build KK6USY approved?
@@HamRadioDX it sure is! Al u minium is the way to go if you can.
Moxon on Moxon off🙃
👍👍👍
Did a few cans of Fosters enter into this project?
Fosters is horrible, nobody drinks it anymore
Nobody drinks Fosters in Australia.
@@HamRadioDX Too bad you can't get Wisconsin beer. New Glarus brewing company makes a brew that's the best I've had in 3 continents. Spotted Cow
@@HamRadioDX I actually agree. But the cans are BIG. I used to drink Swan Lager.
