Rebecca, it was tough! I finished the watercoloour portrait of our Pug, Mona. Watched your video many, many times to study the steps and feel confident. It was awsome! I did it based on a picture I took of her last year. I will give it to my husband on Christmas Day. We'll shed a tear but, she will always be in our hearts and life. Thanks a lot, you were my angel and tutor. Have a joyful, happy holidays.
I actually scrolled all the way down & got my answer. Thank you so much for referring people to Doris Joa's video. And thank you for generously doing these demos. I've always painted in oil & now love doing watercolor!
Wanted to paint our Pug called Mona, who passed away last May 2019. She was my husband love and I wanted to paint her for him as a Christmas present. I will give it a try after watching this talented, artistic video. Thanks a lot for your sharing it.
Wow! That was a amazing to watch come to life!! I'd love to see you do a chocolate lab! My boy is so super handsome I'd love to have the talent and skill to immortalize and honor him in this way. Thank you so much for sharing your work!!
@@RebeccaRhodesWatercolorArtist Thanks so much for your response! I was actually referring to the large brush you switched over to when using Billy's #6.??
Marvelous! Found this video while doing research for my own three pugs and will definitely be checking out your others. Ever thought of doing dogs again but with different coloring?
Thanks for your message, and I'm glad you found these tutorials! The larger brown brush is a Billy Showell Fine Tipped No. 6. The small black is Winsor & Newton Series 7 Sable # 1, the larger black is another Winsor & Newton that is pretty old and has lost its tip.
hello... when using the dry bruush for the fur, are you using a watery wash? Thankyou for the amazing tutorials. will be looking at your courses in the next day or so
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing. I'm new to watercolors. When you say dry brush. Which one do you use to make the hair and just don't put any water in it? Just the colors? Thanks!!
Hi Rebecca, I absolutely love your paintings! I’m currently working on my own and I was wondering about the protective spray you use. How long do you wait before spraying and from approximately how far? I’ve used Krylon clear coating but it warped the paint so I think I didn’t wait long enough. Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to your next works!
Hi Valentina, I give the painting a day or two to make sure it's completely dry, and use the Krylon spray. Give it an even spray 1 to 2 feet in distance, making sure there are no drips, and then a couple of hours to a day to dry, then apply another layer if you think it's needed.
Hi Rebecca, your artwork is superb ! Can you please tell me what kind of brushes you use and what are the qualities of a good brush ? Thanks and Godbless 🙂
Thanks John! This is a Billy Showell Fine Tipped brush. You can see it here: www.billyshowell.com/brushes/the-billy-showell-fine-tipped-brush-set-brushes
Beautifully done! Do you wrap the Arches paper around a frame? I'm trying to figure out how to keep my 140 lb. Cold Press paper from warping. Thinking about dry-mounting it first before I paint. Thank you!
hello! I've watched a few of your videos and I've always wondered what surface you're using. I know you said it was mid weight cold press but is it paper wrapped around a canvas? or directly on stretcher bars? I really appreciate your techniques! Thanks!
Hi Lyndzee, yes, it's Arches 140 lb. Cold Press paper, soaked for 3 minutes in water and stapled to Fredrix Stretcher Strips. I love it because it dries tight as a drum. Thanks!
I wondered too since I've never seen watercolor paper on stretcher bars. Really great idea! Maybe you will demo how for the rest of us. I'm new to watercolor and am really enjoying it as more than a quick underpainting.
Hi! This painting is created on Arches Cold Press 140 lb. watercolor paper. I spray the painting with at least 3 coats of Krylon UV Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating. Thanks for watching!
You captured the pugs personality, she looks as if she heard a wrapper crinkle and will be looking for halfsies in a minute! Beautifully done.
Oh, that is so funny! Thank you!

Hi Jan, yes, I use the consistency of tea to thin milk. I'll look for you in the school!
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing. I'm new to watercolors. When you say dry brush. Which one do you use to make the hair and just don't put any water in it? Just the colors? Thanks!!
+Sil AO, yes, dry brush means that the brush is just damp enough to pick up the paint and you put the color on dry paper. Best wishes to you!
Good luck to you! Hope you enjoy painting!
Thank you CarrieAnne! Love it!

My apologies for the delayed reply. Yes, I wrapped the Arches paper around and stapled it to a wooden frame.

Thanks Lata - sorry, I'm not familiar with these.
