  • In my last video, we met Reena and learned all about what led her into the Nomadic life, in today's video, we take a tour inside Reena's amazing little T@G, teardrop trailer. As you can imagine, it doesn't take very long, but it does display a lot of creativity with a Tiny Home on Wheels. Adapting to living in such a small space does take some time and work, but the freedom it gives her is well worth all the effort!

    I worked part time renting these T@G teardrops out and maintaining them in between etc. I have to say, their maneuverability is really amazing. We used to pull them across a major street with just two people and I could move them by myself that was just for safety. They are very well thought out. I love her story this was great! Thank you!

      @ SoLAreh:
      Yes...her T@G (smaller) is easily movable, but the "next ones up" in size she mentioned (the T@B 320) actually have handles on the corners to move them about to face whatever direction you want at your campsite once you parked/detached it from the tow vehicle. So just one person can do that. You might be able to move the even larger T@B 400 likewise...but it'd be more of a chore.

    Interesting concept. I always considered tear drops too small; this video changed my perception. It never occurred to me that the queen matress can be made smaller to create a small counte and additional storage. If you're in a climate where you can consistently utilize outdoor space then an outdoor kitchen/potty tent may work very well.

    Thank you, Reena and Bob! I love the teardrop, especially the kitchen! I also love to bake and now I see a really good option to do this. Thank you Reena, for talking about rest stops and getting between truck drivers. I know that not everyone is trustworthy, but I remember traveling during a school break with my Daddy (truck driver at the time). At a rest stop, he directed a young Mom (who desperately needed to sleep) with two kiddos to pull in between his truck and his friend's truck. After exchanges of food and other things, we all left in the morning. Safely.

    My question is, when you live in a camper trailer or tiny house, how do you NOT get your home stolen if you need to unhook it from a vehicle to run errands, etc.? Anyone could pull up to your tiny house or trailer, hook up, and tow it off. It seems you'd need to park it in some secured area unless you wanted to guard it 24/7.

      @ Rupinder:
      Well, let's take off the rose-colored glasses (give them back to Elton John) and be real for a moment: Don't count on "no worries of robbers" -- NO place is really "safe" anymore, even in America.
      But then also in America (unlike the entire rest of the planet) we can CARRY. Not in ALL states, but in MOST: AZ being one of the BEST as it has "Constitutional Carry" (meaning no permit required concealed or openly) and I assure you MANY RVers do just that, they CARRY!
      Being "free" and "independent" ("rugged individualism" as Teddy Roosevelt used to say, how Americans USED to be back in his time) ALSO means taking personal responsibility for your own safety/protection and not relying on others (cops or bystanders -- good luck on that). Sure, call 911, but until the cops GET there, it's up to you to survive without them.
      Lots of us plan to survive (and refuse to be victims...or at least EASY victims). We CARRY. ;-)
      Happy Travels,

No table n chair. Use a small canvas chair w a lap desk as needed. I’m with Reena. Fewer items to go wrong. Easy to manage trailer for a senior woman.

      I have a teardrop, too, but it's only 5x8, with no Mod Cons, but it does have a pass-through, and I can cook indoors or out doors. She needs a butane stove, and she could, too. Solar is nice, but if you need a generator for food, you should have a better back-up.
      I also have a couple of ways to take care of personal hygiene, and business. I have to live on less money, but it's no longer a real hardship, not paying for utilities alone, let alone rent.
      Each of us can find happiness in less. It's first a chore, then a choice, and then, a pleasure.

    I hope Reena knows that the "cable TV" input socket is not just for "pay-for TV" (like you'd get @ home or one of the better RV parks) but for those of us out & about in the sticks -- but not TOO far away from a decent size city -- that input is also for an "old-fashioned" TV antenna (the ONLY way to get TV @ home in the 1950s, 60s and 70s!) that can receive HDTV signals broadcast today ("OTA" = "Over The Air" TV reception, not via cable).
    In fact, I use that @ home for my TV, so there's no outrageously high TV bill from a cable company.
    If Reena is camping IN a city where there's a strong TV signal, a simple, cheap, short-range Rabbit Ear type of antenna should work fine. If a bit further away, an amplified version of the same should work. Getting farther away (probably 65-70 miles is max, given the curvature of the earth, even in a flat/non-hilly-mountainous area) a longer-distance rated antenna will be needed...and likely an amplified antenna.
    you can get directional antennas (need to be pointed at a TV tower) or a non/omni-directional antenna. Some are like thick paper (but plastic-covered foil/grid, like the "Mohu" Leaf) and can be put on a wall or in a RV's window. So many kinds of antennas out there (check their reviews/ratings first before buying, and choose a store with a decent return policy: You may have to try several to get the best results, and you won't KNOW what those results will be without TRYING the antenna.
    I have several myself, for carrying distances from in-town to way out in the sticks (Mohu Leaf Plus, Mohu Sky, ClearStream 4, ClearStream 5).
    Whatever, it looks like she doesn't HAVE an antenna presently...as cheap as they are, she should GET one and try it out every place she camps, to see what she can/can't pick up. And even if in town but not camping in-town (even at a City/State Park perhaps), try it out to see all the channels she CAN get. You just attach the antenna to your TV, go to your TV's Menu and select "Channels" (or similar) to do a "Scan" (for "Air" or "Broadcast" search, not cable TV input) for what's out there, let the TV complete the scan and see how many channels you get. Should at least get some, and if in a city, most likely CBS, ABC, NBC, and PBS. Others would be ME-TV, ANT-TV, CW, ION, etc.
    Usually, these are found on sub-channels of the main channel...for example, in my case Channel 4.1 is our local CBS station, but ME-TV is on channel 4.3, so ME-TV is a sub-channel of CBS. Same for sub-channels for NBC, ABC, and others.
    Good luck,
    -- BR

    • @g.cosper8306
      @g.cosper8306 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I live in a big city and have a powered antenna but still can't get decent local channels. I believe it's interference based. I gave up.

    • @billredding2000
      @billredding2000 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@g.cosper8306 That could be for other reasons, also (such as having a too powerful antenna for local signals which overloads the signal going to your TV). Or whether you're using an indoor vs outdoor antenna, omni-directional, directional, amplified or not. Can't go into them all here (and I'm no expert anyway!) but if in a city as you say, you SHOULD be getting decent reception with almost anything -- just a coaxial cable picks up 4-5 channels here, even with no antenna attached! Also, OTA (Over-the-Air) TV is usually BETTER quality video, as OTA/Broadcast TV data isn't compressed so it tends to be much clearer. The channels here that broadcast in 1080p/720p are outstandingly clear. Channels broadcasting in 480p (like ME-TV) are more "VHS" quality from the 80s, but still watchable.
      And as like you I'm also in the city -- can even SEE most of the TV towers on the mountain -- I even get those channels on a tiny, cheap TV antenna like this one:
      -- www.aliexpress.com/store/product/August-DTA180-Portable-Indoor-Outdoor-Digital-tv-Antenna-for-DVB-T-Television-DAB-Radio-Freeview-Antennas/2131312_32748438997.html
      In fact, here in the city it outdoes the other more expensive antennas I tried: This $10 antenna was so good I get 55 channels (meaning, x-number of "main" channels and then each one's sub-channels). That's pretty much everything possible being broadcast locally here in El Paso, and from across the Border in Juarez, Mexico also!
      All I can suggest is you borrow some antennas from friends/family (or your neighbors) and TRY them. Or, buy some well-rated antennas IF they allow you to return them (choose a store with a liberal return policy: Walmart, BestBuy, etc). Check Goodwill and Salvation Amry shops for old antennas, too. And check some good online sources like Denny's TV and Antennas Direct.
      Move each antenna around your house and have your TV re-scan each time, with amplifier on and off, to see of THAT makes any difference. Then move it again -- do at least all 4 corners of a room, by a window, etc., then put it in other rooms, and so on. Yes, that takes a good while to do, but it's the only way. Or mount an antenna outside on you roof (as pretty much everyone did in the 1950s/60s and 70s, BEFORE there was Cable TV.
      I've been getting OTA TV for years now: In Galveston, TX, I could get pretty much ALL the channels towers in Missouri City (Houston area) were putting out (50-60 miles away). Not THAT surprising because I used a "long-range" antenna (The ClearStream C4 and C5 antennas) AND the land is FLAT out there. STILL, when I lived in Colorado Springs, despite plenty of mountains between me and Denver, I got at least SOME of the channels Denver was putting out (about 50-60 miles away also, on top of Lookout Mountain) -- and yes, I had a 3rd-floor apt so I got some height for the best chance for reception (a ground-floor apt may not have gotten anything from Denver, especially if not FACING in the right direction). And I got ALL (of course) the channels from the Colorado Springs TV towers on top of Cheyenne Mountain.
      In Colorado Springs, I mounted the ClearStream C4 antenna out on my balcony pointing in the general direction of Denver, then adjusting it left/right to get the highest signal strength. As for Galveston, I had BOTH the C4 and C5 mounted to one mast in my bedroom (not on my balcony, due to the salt air corroding ANYTHING made of metal!) pointing out my window towards Houston. And now, in this city (El Paso, TX), with the cheap little "rod with a magnetic base" $10 antenna mounted behind the TV, I get 55 channels.
      BTW, go here, put in your local address, and see what channel you SHOULD be getting:
      -- www.tvfool.com/
      -- antennaweb.org/Address
      ...they tell you not only how many channels you should get (depending on if you have a short, medium or long-range antenna) but exactly what direction (compass degree) assorted TV towers are from you so you can point you antenna properly (you'll need a compass, even if only a cheap one).
      Really, don't give up until you spend WAY more time on this.
      I haven't paid for TV for years...ain't about to start now or anytime soon. ;-)
      Good luck,
      -- BR

      James J LaRue What year do you have? Do you have AWD? I used to have a ridgeline, been contemplating a pilot, want to start camping

    • @JamesJLaRue
      @JamesJLaRue 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tolowreading6807 2008 EX-L 4WD. The downside is that the stereo, navigation and back-up camera are outdated, but interconnected. Replacing the stereo means the back-up camera and sub-woofer no longer work. You have to get a new back up camera and power amp for the sub. This could be good though since you could wire the new back up camera to the back of the trailer with a disconnectable wire. This year of Pilot has "4WD". It's not the same as a solid-axle 4x4 with a low range tansfer case, but it works good in dirt roads. It's always AWD (comes on when needed) but there's a VTM-Lock button that makes it "full time" 4WD below a certain speed. In the desert with loose sand, I can feel it working when I turn it on. Sleeping in it is easy for me since I like a bit of incline under my torso and head. The rear seats fold completely flat, but the middle seats fold only "almost" flat unless you remove the bottom cusions. But this works for me. Some people remove the middle seats and built a platform. Newer models may fold flatter, but off road ability isn't quite as good. Ground clearance is slightly less.

    Watching all your videos from Australia Bob since I discovered you on You Tube..... and also Carolyn's RV Life only a couple of months ago but this is my first comment. Love all that you do with educating and informing your world wide audience; and all the interviews with the stars of your shows such as Reena. She is a wonderful woman, would love to meet her. She has an amazing setup with her little teardrop and I hope she has many happy years living this way with her precious doggy companion. You have all given me and my husband a fantastic insight into boon docking in America. We call it free camping in Australia and love being on the road with our van and golden retriever whenever we can, even though we have our home to come back to. Carolyn has introduced us to touring in Canada with her fabulous videos (what a gorgeous girl, and a talker Lol)! Now to do more catchup viewing while I crochet!

    Sweet, sweet lady. I saw a lady that had a 4c4 or 5, something small and a rig like yours. She put the small tent up to her door on the camper and had a side of it she could leave open of she wanted, weather permitting. She kept her potty in a corner of the tent. along with other things (keyboard, sewing machine,) it was really neat. I heard your say yours was taken by the wind. You may do similar. I love your sweet tiny. Safe travels and God Bless
