    Nice job Karl. Just purchased my first Mac and went with the 2015 MacBook Air 4/256/13" primarily for on-the-go business use. So far, absolutely loving it. The performance is stellar no matter the task and I am especially pleased that a 13" screen (use to a 15 or better) actually appears larger than its physical dimensions. I agree the view is not nearly as crisp as my iPhone 6 but having a back-lit keyboard that is amazingly sharp and snappy mitigates any overall visual disappointment. Of note, I have had a challenge locating and acquiring my WiFi enabled Canon printer on my home wireless network using the Printers & Scanners tool. I have resorted to connecting to the printer via a USB port (which immediately prompted my Mac to update and configure for the printer) pending further research or assistance. A long time HP laptop Windows user, I consider my Mac a high performance gem.

    I bought mine about a month ago. I love it. It's my first Mac computer, though I've worked on Mac before. I have both a PC and a Mac. This computer is pretty fast, the screen quality is pretty good, and it was affordable, as well as it fits my needs. I'm not a tech know-it-all but I've watched a few videos of people criticizing the non-retina display or some other small details, honestly, I'm not looking for a computer in that aspect of performance.
    I'm a flight instructor and use my computer a lot for web browsing and word documents and presentations. It fits my needs.

    The 2015 Air is actually pretty awesome. The screen isn't all that gorgeous, like the Pro or 12" MacBook, but it performs splendidly, it's super portable, and is priced pretty competitively. Best Buy had a Memorial Day sale that had the $999 model for $849, and with Mover's coupon it ended up being only $765. Love it!

    had my 2015 mac book air for about a week, i absolutely love it, i personally prefer it to the pro for what i need it for, editing isn't a problem for me because i use my iMac mainly for editing and only edit the odd clip on the go on my air. i do agree that it would be nice to have a retina version

  • @cnypilot
    @cnypilot 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I am still trucking along with a late 2010 Macbook Air. After 5 years, still works beautifully. Only thing is: at the time I purchased it, I did not realize I would be rendering videos. I would have gone for 4 gigs of ram rather than the 2 standard. Oh well. I use a PC with 12 gigs for those beefy videos. Although the air still can accomplish some nice 1080p stuff in iMovie.
    I cannot believe that they still have not added a retina display to the air lines!! Crazy. :)

    • @TehMC
      @TehMC 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish they did, but then battery life wouldn't be as good, it would weight more and there would be pretty much no point of getting an Air.

    Just ordered my new 2017 MacBook Air 13-inch base model. I previously had a 2016 MacBook Pro 13-inch and I loved the Retina display but battery life took a hit! I’ve seen the MacBook Air in stores so many times and think the display is better than what some people give it credit for, be great if it was 1080p but I think the resolution is good on the Air. I’m intrigued to see if battery life is as good as people say it is and overall performance. I’m no video editor so I doubt I will even push it to its limits at all, however I do edit and build websites.

  • @robbae9307
    @robbae9307 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm not hating at tall, but the reason the MacBook Air doesn't have the Retina display is because it would drain too much battery and the small MacBook airs just can't afford that, now I know that the MacBook 12" has a Retina display but that laptop also has no fans, a really low power cpu and a relatively big battery

    • @garminkid
      @garminkid 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly!!!!!! The MacBook Air would have to get rid of battery to support a Retina display and keep all that power. Yes, the MacBook is insanely thin and light with a Retina display, but there is little power with a gigantic battery. It also has a bad keyboard and one port. The MacBook Air, on the other hand, is a thin and light, but powerful machine that doesn't sacrifice a lot. It has the ports. It has a solid keyboard. And the MacBook Air would have to take a performance hit to get a Retina display to get the same amount of battery. I think that the MacBook Air is perfect for anyone who can't afford a MacBook Pro, but wants more power than the MacBook.

    • @andreigheorghe6932
      @andreigheorghe6932 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +CedarPointRocks625 a small jump to 1080p and maybe IPS would barely touch battery life but would make a big difference to a lot of people. In fact, given the increased efficiency of each subsequent set of processors from intel, apple could easily sneak in a 1080p display and have any losses in battery life concealed by the new processor so that battery life takes no hit. I appreciate that full retina would be too far but it's 2015 and 1080p should be the bare minimum, 12-hour battery life or not. Apple simply doesn't want to cut into sales for their new more expensive MacBook. I mean no offence but that is the cold hard truth.

    • @TehMC
      @TehMC 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Andrei Gheorghe haha I came from an extremely cheap laptop that I was stuck with for over 2 years to a MacBook Air and the display on my other laptop was 1366x768 while the Air is sporting a 1440x900 display which is honestly such an improvement for me. Even though both processors on the laptops were clocked in at 1.6GHz, the Air performed MUCH better with other power demanding tasks. I thought I was going to need a Pro but the Air was more than enough for me.

    Chances are I won't be doing anything 4K in the near future, I don't have access to a 4k camera or display, and most people I know are content with SD or HD content. I currently own a late 2013 13" retina macbook pro with 8 GB ram and and a 256 GB SSD, with plenty of storage externally between an external hard drive and usb storage. While this computer can play 4k files from youtube with no trouble at all, how would editing be? Like I said I'm just looking for feedback from experiences. Not that I would actually invest in the technology right now. I have slightly lower expectations when it comes to video editing because i finished up training when HD was just becoming mainstream with over the air broadcasts, and blu-ray was a fairly new technology.
    I learned to edit on G4/G5 machines with the old style final cut studio, and miniDV as the main source of video.
    Now I would say for HD i use my iPhone and a Hard disk based SD camcorder, and i still have a couple miniDVs lying around too. Right now I'm working on rebuilding my TH-cam channel without so much the focus on is it HD is it SD, but getting up videos with good content. and then focus on the camera upgrades after I've gotten so more experience .
    I enjoy the videos of yours I've seen. Keep it up!

    How about casual gaming on the macbook air? Would it be able to run 30FPS? Or would you considering getting a CPU or Ram upgrade? I still need this for school so I trying to make this a dual-purpose laptop but still want to be somewhat cost efficient

    • @ropeslosso38
      @ropeslosso38 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Macs are there for all around performance. Gaming is a bust aside from the stuff in the store, even then, it is poor sometimes in there as well. More specifically, the low specs of the Macbook Air make it so that you can use most of the programs you want, but it shouldn't be used as a primary computer, just an on the go. I would recommend buying a POWERHOUSE gaming pc, then buy a Macbook air

      michael h I would say go for the macbook air. Its not only cheaper but even though it is not as powerful as the pro its still more then enough for school. I think if you plan on editing some 4k or you want to play some games on high quality then you should go for the pro but if your only using it to type papers, watch videos and just surf the web the air would be a great choice. Buying a macbook pro would just be a over kill if you ask me. I know a pound or two may not sound like much (trust me I know lol) but when you are carrying it around all day along with other things you really do start to feel it. Also the air does get better battery life.

    • @hafizmokhtar4310

      I only own MBA for a few months now and 1 android phone, so no extra apple's gadget. I didn't face any moments where my productivity ever stopped just because I didn't own any apple gadgets. I can do everything just fine like in my windows. But 1 thing I can say that it is one of the best investment I ever made. There are a few things that make me never go back to windows devices such as
      1. The trackpad is just awesome, I never experience any lag or stutter on the trackpad yet. I didn't need my mouse anymore.
      2. You'll get exactly 12 hours of battery time for normal consumption.
      3. Since it's lightweight, I bring it with me wherever I go. I didn't shut it down if I'm just going for a lunch so I put it in my backpack. There is no issue that it is overheating in my backpack and drain the battery away.
      4. If 1 application runs into a problem, it doesn't interrupt my other program.

      Cassandra Tafolla pro

    • @warrenmcclure7819
      @warrenmcclure7819 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cassandra Tafolla I feel like it depends on what you want more. Dose weight not matter to much? Do you plan on editing some 4k video or do you only plan on doing some 1080p videos? I feel like if you need something very light and only plan on making 1080p videos that macbook air with the i7 and 8 GB ram should be enough but if you need to use it to edit some 4k videos and edit some very high quality photos the macbook pro would be much better since it has a much better display and better processor. You can also configure it for 16 GB ram whereas the air you can only max it out at 8 GB.

    • @warrenmcclure7819
      @warrenmcclure7819 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I know for someone like myself I am totally happy with 1080p even 720 at least, anything higher I honestly dont care for. So what I am trying to say is that I think most people are fine with 1080p since its a pretty decent resolution. I think the MacBook air would be fine if you maxed out the specs because even though it dont have a high resolution screen you can always hook it up to a monitor with a higher resolution screen and edit videos that way. But if your always on the go and just never get much time at home or something then I think the pro would be a better choice for editing high quality stuff since the screen is much better.

    • @warrenmcclure7819

      But if you do decide to edit 4K on the air it will be slower (but usable I imagine, correct me if I am wrong) since it has intergraded graphics whereas the high end macbook pro has a 2GB dedicated graphics card. Editing 4K content will be smooth as butter on the pro

    I have a 2015 macbook air with a pretty sad dual core i5. Since Apple no longer supports this, I just put Windows 10 on it to use it for web browsing and a security camera server. It actually feels pretty 'snappy'. I will say will be our last Mac computer since Apple claims to be a 'green' company but discontinues support after 5-7 years to force consumers to buy the latest and greatest. I am aware there are 'workarounds' to put the latest Mac OS on it and from what I've seen, older Intel based Macs run JUST FINE with it. There is no other reason for Apple not supporting this hardware, other than greed.

    Which one did you guys recommend for a college student to use? MacBook Air or MacBook Pro? I'll pretty much just use it for doing work like typing essays/ppt and social medias such as TH-cam, Tumblr etc.
    And if anyone of u have used MacBook Air 2015 up to this time, how did you find it? I wish for it to last long.. thank you in advance

      Macbook Air is suited for you. It's very light and portable, so it won't give much weight to your bag when you are traveling unlike a MBP (My backpack gets 3 times heavier when I bring a MBP!). Since you are just gonna web browse and use word processors, you won't need that extra processing power the MBP has, although it has better graphics. If you need the retina and the portability, you should just consider the MacBook instead.
      I've had my MBA for a month now and so far I haven't encountered any problems. I'll switch to a MBP or Dell XPS after 3 or 4 years since I'll be a CompSci undergrad soon. :)

    I have had my macbook air for about a month now and I love it:) I have the one with the core i7, 8 GB ram, and 256 SSD and all I have to say is that its amazing! Its powerful, its thin, and just overall sexxxyy lol. When it came to me having to decide on which macbook I wanted I already knew I wanted something thin but also powerful. I wanted something that will last me years and years to come. I needed something that I could plug my iPhone and hard drive in. I decided to go with the air instead of the new macbook not only because of the ports but I feel that the MacBook air is not under powered. Sure the new macbook is great to use on the web and edit some videos now but within 3 or 5 years I really think it'll be to slow to use as a main computer compared to the macbook air with a much faster processor. Don't get me wrong I was totally drooling over the new macbook but if I am going to put $1500.00 down for a computer I am going to buy one that will last me for a long time. I am thinking about doing a review on my macbook air, what do you guys think??

    • @TehMC
      @TehMC 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Air. Pro is going to be a waste of money, especially if you only do light usage. Air is more than enough for your daily tasks. It can handle a lot of things too and surprisingly smooth on semi-intense programs.

    I'm planing to save up for this and get it around early November. Do you think they'll update it in October like they usually do for the macs or do you think because of the MacBook they will just get rid of the air brocade that seems like they would try to replace the air
