    I'm typing this on the new i7 2015 Mac Air w/upgraded processor/ram/storage. I changed from the 2012 Air that had the same upgrades. I am really happy I made this purchase. The biggest reason was simply that my old Air had become old and worn down. But the 2.2Ghz/3.2GhzTurbo processor just blazes! I run Adobe Photoshop without any lag at all.
    In my opinion the Macbook Air is the perfect computer. Yes, the screen is still just 1440px wide, but the net still is not ready for Retina displays. The pixel doubling of Macbook Pros makes 85% of the websites look fuzzy. For me, this screen is beautiful and bright. Retina displays will be necessary in 2-4 years, but we're not there yet.
    This computer is blazing fast. Amazing build quality! Things break 50% as often as my old Lenovo. Amazing keyboard, trackpad. Works great for web/photoediting/videoediting. And it weighs just **2 pounds**.

      I was wondering what I should get if I was going to run Adobe Photoshop?

      +Simon Cunningham People just don't understand how fast today's computers are. Especially Macs, as Apple just doesn't do the low end. These Macbook Airs are great for creative design, and even light video editing.

    You need to keep in mind that during the Heaven Benchmark, the 2014 model turbo boosted up to 2GHz while the 2015 model stayed at stock clocks. Also the 2014 model had 1GB of memory dedicated to graphics while the 2015 model only had 256MB dedicated to the graphics, and the 2015 model still won. The slower clock speed on the 2015 model could possibly also improve battery life slightly in this sense

    I have the 2014 model. Came from IBM Thinkpads. These are fantastic laptops, with great build quality. I use mine for basic video editing and it's great. You can't buy better quality.

  • @alf279
    @alf279 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Definitely not worth upgrading from 2014. I have the 2014 base model and it's fast as hell, never has any issue, does everything I want extremely fast. If they introduce a new screen, with higher resolution, while not ruining battery life, I'll think about upgrading.

    • @alf279
      @alf279 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      ***** Expensive but there is nothing comparable to this in terms of build quality and speed in the ultrabook segment. There are great windows-based ultrabooks but they lack Mac OS X and the timeless elegant design all Apple products have.
      Before the first fanboy comment arrives, I was always a windows+android guy before I got my MacBook Air and then my iPhone 5S. I still have a windows powerhouse of a pc and my htc one m7 and love them but I have to admit apple does things better.

    It's a tough call - I am looking at brand new one for $999 with 512SSD and 8GB, same config on apple is $1599, so it seems worth it to take the prior gen to save $600. Will the average user see the speed diff? Probably not.

    I bought the 2015 macbook with a loan to build a little credit history (by the way, do not get the Apple credit card if you aren't one that cares about rewards, go to your personal banks first), and shortly after finishing the payments I'll sell it and get the new one. The date is what buyers get hung up on, and buying the new macbook certainly adds to the advantage of the seller if he or she plans on selling it in time to purchase the newer editions. Just a suggestion.

  • @SorinVBogdan

    Is this still worth buying in December 2017 or should I squeeze the wallet for the 2015 MB Pro? I wouldn't be using it for more than general web browsing and office suite work, plus I travel all the time, so weight and battery life are more important to me than power. My concern with the Air is that it might be discontinued from next year. Would that affect the product in any way in terms of Apple support or OS updates and stuff like that?

    • @KM-vy6ic
      @KM-vy6ic 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorin Vasile Bogdan nah man it won't get discontinued for a while, look at Mac OS sierra, it just got released a few months ago, it supports the 2010 MacBook Air so this will be supported for a long long time and in addition to that Apple products hold their value for years like the 2012 MacBook Air on eBay right now is $500-$600 dollars.

    • @cameronw6259

      If you're a student you most likely want long battery life and portability which isn't as good on dell's side, and if you plan on getting the 4k Inspiron. Don't. Either way both are nice laptops, and check out the dell xps 13.

    Your graphics comparison screen shows the 2014 MBA card as an Intel HD Graphics 5000 with 1GB RAM, while the 2015 is showing the Intel HD Graphics with only 256MB of RAM. Not that I'd use my MBA for gaming, but only using a quarter of the RAM isn't an even comparison. Besides, according to those numbers, the 6000 chipset still outperforms the 5000 even with only a quarter of the RAM.

    • @TheOrangeType
      @TheOrangeType 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AlphaMiner As someone who upgraded from a 2011 MBP to the 2014MBA, I can honestly say you don't miss much when compared to the Retina. My brother has the Retina and i've used it regularly so i have a good understanding of both machines.
      I specifically chose the Macbook Air for its Light weight and thin design, 12 hour battery (which more often than not I actually hit) and not for the display. It did factor in, but i determined those features outweigh the benefit of the Retina display.
      That being said though, the retina display would have been a nice little addition but it doesn't ruin the MBA experience. After all, you'll be jumping up with resolution no matter which you would choose.
      Really, it comes down to price. The Macbook Air is becoming more and more of a "bargain" (as much as a bargain can be when you're forking over £800) as the years go on. Its powerful enough for moderate to heavy use but light weight and thin enough to carry and use anywhere. Its a great middle ground for students, business workers and someone who flat out wants to move their laptop around easily. The Retina is still light weight mind you, don't mis understand me, but its nothing compared with the Air.

      George Hoare no not really if u do what I'm doing nothing different but it might be slower

      @georgeh8291 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      timtim 06 i might need it for graphic/editing based work however, will this impact my choice?

    • @tariqdacres7465
      @tariqdacres7465 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Hoare well I would strongly recommend a Mac Pro
      2010-14 ssd and ram upgrade
      15-17 it's good how it is

    • @georgeh8291
      @georgeh8291 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      timtim 06 see that's the thing It won't be that advanced but will either of the MacBook airs allow me to do this?

      Clayton Ransehousen but a downgrade in almost every sense. Both have their own niche though.

      It has one port which you need to buy your own cables to connect to displays not as many people will have these so you can't borrow from a friend, also it downgrades in standard processor along with visuals it doesn't look as appealing

      i know...wish Apple would put some cool ass hardware in their machines...but they put in stuff that is just ok...then make it sound awesome

    I see no point of these laptops. Everything about them is just bad. The only thing it has going for it, is it's beautiful design. Other than that, for that money, you're getting a fat tablet. Better get the Dell XPS 13 if you ask me. More compact and a lot more powerful.

    • @imkirbo3094

      +Guy Random The Dell is not a lot more powerful in any way...
