Two of my very favorite ladies. It’s a shame one of them had to lose.
It looks like they were both using a semi-fingertip grip. What most casual bowlers consider a semi- is really more of a long conventional grip, but the semi- used by the pros is where the fingers are inserted into the ball about 1/8 inch past the crease where the fingers bend. There is a flaring of the bone near the joint that determines how deep the fingers are inserted. Nelson Burton Jr. used this grip throughout his career and recommended it over the full fingertip grip because of the added control. The semi- as commonly described where the fingers are inserted halfway between the first and second knuckles is a poor choice for most bowlers because the finger does not bend at that point and it will tend to make hash out of the back side of your knuckles, even if you’re using soft grips.

I’ve strung a many myself… until arthritis kicked in 5 years ago I just completed my 29th sanctioned 300 game…. Rings to prove them. 5-299 games 1-298-… four 800 sets… this just one or two nights league bowling … open bowling 27 strikes in a row practicing with John Gant- the buzz saw from the 90s.

They oil the lanes now. Does that produce higher scores than those in the old days, like the 1960s?
Completely different machines nowadays. They actually have many various oil patterns …. Huge difference with the bowling balls as well. Remember when the ball had a track wear line on all of them? Nowadays they never rotate the same way

@@korn20102001 go to any bowling center and you can watch someone basically drop the ball and still get a strike. All about hitting the pocket.
More speed/revolutions def makes a huge difference even look at the pba 50/60. As you age you get weaker and can’t compete at the same level🤷🏽♂️

A friend of mine thinks they should be required to wear the same style of uniforms that the ladies on beach volleyball wear. At least here they won’t have the risk of getting sand in their down under! Which brings up a question, with all that sand on the beach and it only takes one grain to create a pearl, do any of the beach ladies ever pop out a pearl from their clam?
