I dont know why you keep insisting that the Camaro is heavy?? They are only around 3400 lbs, with a V8, M6, Rwd, ect. They also have fiberglass panels. at 3400 lbs, with say 315Hp, thats a power to weight ratio of 0.093 hp/lb. Theyre thicc, not fat. BTW. a 2500lb 170 HP Miata is only 0.068 hp/lb. And Mk4 Supras were about 3400 LBS too. They wouldnt be used for drag racing if they were too heavy, lol.

Not here to argue, just set a few things straight, I never thought 3,300 pounds was heavy, my road racing 93 weighs 2,850 with a cage, on a road trip my Z28's will do over 30 mpg, decades ago the 93 through 97 were called the Maco Shark, Catfish came along 98 and up, they are among one of the best handling cars ever produced, don't have a clue where you got that info, I've been road racing these cars for over 30 years, they are as fast as anything produced today, one of the most durable and reliable cars money can buy, and as far as looks go that's a matter of opinion.

Yeah I'm not sure if homie even did any research on these honestly. They're far from heavy, actually lighter than most pony cars today, and they're surprisingly great on gas.
My '02 LS1 is getting like 31 on the highway, and even 16/17 in the city. Sure a 4cyl Camry is gonna do better but that's a very odd car to compare this to, especially today when everyone is driving trucks and SUVs that only get 20 on the highway anyway

FINALLY IVE BEEN CALLED ON! I drive a 2000 Trans Am, big ol LS1 with a 6 speed manual paired to it. Its my first car. I wouldn't trade my car for anything. They all need to be updated to LED's, new radio, some comfort stuff like that. But power wise, its phenomenal still, and its cheap, simple, and straight forward to make great power out of the car. The chassis is solid too, slides when ya want, grips when ya need, they're just awesome cars. GET YOU ONE! They're getting more and more expensive every day.

Camaro 4th Gen the good bad and ugly corrections list.
Ok. Im going to post this simply as informative corrections. The video had a lot of errors. Here is the breakdown.
(A lot of these things apply to its cousin the Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am)
Also please take a look at the 4th Gen forums, Ls1tech LTxTech. As mentioned the community is cool, not all of us are grandpas or old in general. (Im 31)
The 4th generation Camaro is divided into early and late 4th gen’s. The early Camaros were not “catfish” Camaros. The 1993-1997 Camaros had recessed headlights and much more angular aggressive lines. These are the “shark face, shark nose” cars. 93-97 Camaros come as base models and Z28’s. 96-97 Chevrolet (in conjunction with SLP) also offered the SS model.
    Trims:
    93-95 base models came with 3.4L V6’s
96-97 base models came with 3.8L V6’s (3800 series II) both offered automatics or T5 manuals.
    93-97 Z28’s came with the 5.7L V8 (350ci) Gen II LT1’s with power ranging from 275hp (93-95) and 285hp (96-97)
The 96-97 SS cars also had LT1’s and ram air pushed power to 305.
All V8 equipped cars either got a 4L60E (93 got non electronically controlled 4L60) 4 speed automatics or a Borg Warner T56 manual 6 speed transmission.
*** LT4 5.7L V8 engine was only ever placed into 108 4th generation Camaros. They are extremely rare, if you see one for sale, it is NOT real(jokes aside real ones are going to be in the neighborhood of $40-50k). 100 of these LT4 equipped cars were for the US market. 6 were produced for Canada, and 2 were designated test mules for GM. 330hp on these cars***
SIDE note: The 1997 cars were a bridge year and received the more popular interior update (1 useable flip out cup holder) held by the 1998-2002 cars, as well as the refreshed tail lights.
The 1998-2002 Camaro’ YES THE ACTUAL CATFISH. Bulbous headlights softer front fascia, but more performance.
    Trims:
98-02 Base models all had the 3.8L V6 (3800 series II)
98-02 RS package cars were mainly cosmetic packages+ suspension bits for base model cars. Modifications came from SLP (street legal performance)
    98-02 Z28’s 5.7L V8 LS1 (346ci) 305hp (98-00) and 310 (01-02) (underrated to not cannibalize C5 sales)
    98-02 SS’s 5.7L V8 LS1 (346ci) 320hp (98-00) and 325HP (01-02)
These also were offers with 4L60E 4 speed automatics OR with Tremec built T56 6 speed Manuals.
SS cars from both early and late Camaros will easily be recognized with their Ram Air Hoods and raised rear deck lid spoilers. They also feature special suspension packages along with options for Torsen or Auburn limited slip differentials factory hurst short shifters etc. They also had special Wheels available “ZR1’s” 17x9 from 96-99 then “10 spokes” 17x9 2000-2002
4th generation Camaros could come as Hardtop, T-Top (NOT TARGA) or convertibles depending on trims.
Side note: T-Tops are 2 removable glass roof panels, a Targa top is a SINGLE removable roof panel in either glass or some composite panel that matches the body composition.
LT1 vs LS1 both made good power LT1 is more finnicky and requires more attention to detail and a hard core owner (see opti spark distributor system and ignition issues). Still a worthy option, IMO it sounds better and more aggressive than the LS cars. (Deeper tones)
LS1 made more power its newer, parts availability is great, everyone knows how to work on them, it’s like building legos. They cost more than the early ones. See 98-02 vs 93-97. I’ve owned both. I know the realities of both.
    Issues:
Interior is period GM, plastic, creaky, etc. it is what it is. They fit taller people really well. (I’m 6’5)
Water pump issues were mostly 93-97 LT1 cars, (harder to work on).
Not an investment. LS1 cars were $5k for forever LT1’s $3-4k. If you bought one back in 2008-2018, then yes you can sell 2-3x now if it’s not clapped. Don’t see them climbing much higher but hey take it as you will. (Yes I know show car stock ones are selling for $20-30k with low ass miles) odds are you don’t have one that clean. So most are 2-3x more than the prices listed above from. There’s more but this is already a novel.

Good job, I own several gen 4 LT1 Camaro's, I have never personally had a problem with the water pump or the opti, a couple notes, never use the hose under the hood, and if you replace the opti look up PETRIS, aftermarket ones are junk like MSD or ACCEL.

Half the engine is under the windshield, and if you have the LT1, have fun with swapping your optispark. Damn near gotta take off everything running on your serpentine belt just to get your distributor off.

Few things I noticed if Im not too late to the party:
    -1993-2002 model year
-v6 options were 3.4L v6 and then in 1995 there was the option for the 3800 series 2 v6 with the 3.4L engines. Then in 1996 the 3800 series 2 became standard
--- the 3800 Series v6's were one if (if not the) most reliable engine GM made, and the modability for them is pretty damn good.
-The one thing they were known to have problems with was the Optispark system, especially the early early 4th gens.
-the rear ends were known to be a little weak with the 7.5/7.6 rear. (Same as my gbody, but with some mods, weren't too bad depending on power level)
    - 1/4 mile track times varied a bit depending on the stock rear end gearing, especially the later 4th gens
-Later 4th gens were different with the z/28 and optional SLP SS'
    - The 4L60E trans were known to be a weak link, however could be built to handle the power. They were essentially electronically controlled th700R4's (i prefer my th2004r transmission in my Gbody)
-I'd have to counter and say the chassis is pretty good for handling actually. The factory made 1LE 4th gens were a testiment to that
Good vid though! Would have been neat to mention the 1997 LT4 engine camaros (really rare), or the late 4th gen ZL1 phase 1, 2, and 3 cars. Look forward to more vids!

    • @user-Dr.
      @user-Dr. 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I totally agree with you, good knowledge, every engine offered in these gen 4's were very reliable, very good handling cars, I've been road racing a 93 for over 30 years, I ordered it pre production for road racing, 222,000 miles of pure road racing, I am still using the T-56 6 speed that came in this car, and have never had it apart, still original, I cheat, I have used Royle Purple lubricants from day one, the T-56 has come to be known as the best transmission ever offered in a production vehicle, this car will run with anything produced today, one of the fastest cars on the track.

Right on! Those 1LE cars are a rare breed too. Definitely something special. It's awesome that you still racing it too. The T-56 is another bullet point I forgot to mention, it's a good transmission for sure, pretty iconic. Love these cars as much as my Gbody, and imo, better than a lot of tuner JDM or Euro cars that everyone is all hot and bothered over to mod and enjoy. Keep racing it though! Love hearing that

That was not the sound of the stock Camaro Z28 or Z28 SS, gas mileage is wrong. The Z28 ls1 or SS will get 18 to 21 around town and up to 28 to 30 on the highway. That is incredible gas mileage. You said this car does not handle well. That is incorrect. The Z28 and SS handle amazing. They can be track car all day long. The T tops do not leak the way they designed them they can’t leak. Where are you getting your info from my goodness. 1993 is when they were first introduced to 1997 with the pointed nose, base came with 3.4 later in 96, 97 you could get the 3.8. The Z28 were Lt cast blocks to 97. From 98 to 2002 you got the vette eng ls1 all aluminum block z28 305 hp SS 325 if you find the SLP option SS it was 345 hp because of better exhaust. Should I go on. If you’re going to do a video of cars you better learn the cars before you smack your gums. Oh and a 3300 pound car is light weight for a sports car like this. I definitely agree- Don't know where he got that idea from? 3.8L is basically legendary as far as being virtually bullet proof- AND it's stout enough to take some serious Turbo Boost right out of thew box. Plus add better weight distribution (for rally / turning performance) & that pesky "doesn't have good Fuel Economy" (V6's get around 30 MPG!) and basically if it's built right- It could possibly be the best overall deal & a killer racer.
P.S. it seems to me, more and more- that the only people who "comment & complain" about the styling of this car are these nitch "Car guys": I had a 1966 GTO and I swear my 2000 Black RS (clone) 4th Gen gets more attention and positive comments from randos (almost daily). My advice? Ignore them 100%

Enjoyed the review, but tons of miss info here. I have 96 z28 convertible (for reference)
    1. Gas mileage is absurdly good for a 90s v8 - 17 city / 28 Highway.
    2. Weight w/o mods is only is 3290 is, so how is that heavy? basic mods get you to 3K
    3. There were only 3 trim models, (RS,Z28,SS) and almost 0 LT4s out there.
    4. Handling is good, basic mods will make these cars handle exceptional.

I’m sorry, your F body was ls1 was introduced in 1998 -02 with the new facelift. Anything prior to that had a LT1 93-97. It’s very simple the 330 hp came from the ram air hood. It was the equivalent of a WS6 trans Am. Nobody cared about the V6.

Idk how but your video made me hate this car less, the rally clip and the orange on white wheels for some reason didn’t look that bad and they make some power, it’s not a pretty car but it’s pretty period correct for a older looking GM of the era

I have owned my 2001 Z28 for 21 years. It has the LS1 with the t56 Trans. I have never had an ounce of trouble with it. The gas mileage is very good, and it is pretty quick for what it is, and it was nasty in its day. I will never get rid of it. I have heads, cam, etc, for it. Oh, and by the way...........3300 pounds is not really heavy thanks to the aluminum block and heads. You really don't know what the hell you're talking about.

But I don't know about all that stuff going bad in Camaros you know I own a 99 Camaro it's a beater it's just a V6 so you know the paint's all chip it's got over 221,000 miles but everything still working the AC still works my windows still work over 10 years ago when I bought it I put a window motor in you know the ABS still works all the lights still work the interior ain't ripped the ceiling hasn't dropped now I got a few stains in the interior because like I said it's just a beater and it's not a V8 should take perfect care of it you know way too many miles but it really depends on the owner and how they take care of the car will depend on how much damage it has in the interior and everywhere else like I'm going to eventually I think buy a V8 one but for now just keeping the V6 when going cuz still gets about 26 miles to a gallon on the highway that's not bad for a car would as many miles it has and how old it is
