  • Kuala Lumpur is definitely an UNDERRATED DESTINATION... at least for western tourists. This city is absolutely one of the biggest hubs for South East Asian travelers, but somehow Americans and Canadians (like myself) are not aware of just how amazing it is until we go there. It is a very modern and bustling metropolis of approximately 9 million people, teaming with things to see and do, plus a lot of delicious food! Join me and my Dad as we tour around the city to some of the must see destinations and you will see why this is a city I absolutely fell in love with!

*I highly recommend this travel health insurance because you don't have to pay out of pocket for your medical expenses and they have very reasonably priced long term plans. You can buy the packages for shorter trips as well, but they're especially fantastic for digital nomads and nomads who want regular health insurance when they are abroad. I am an affiliate of this company, but of course use the plans myself.

I was in Kuala Lumpur about 20 yrs ago I never went up the towers & the park was newly built with no greenery. It sure is nice to see it with all the trees. The beautiful botanical gardens were my favourite place to stroll. I climbed Batu caves, it was free but sadly it was not maintained & monkeys ran around trying to steal people's stuff. There were garbage & empty cans everywhere. It's nice to see it brightly painted. My daughter was living north in Subang Jaya area so I had to take a cab to the train station to get to downtown which took about 40 min. We also rented a car and went south to Malacca which is one of the oldest dutch colonial towns on the ocean. Thank you for the memonries.

A lot has happened and changed for the past couple of decades. Even locals like me found it to be rapidly shifting. Too fast indeed. You should come back here and erase all those negative experiences with wonderful ones. Like Bob Barker likes to say it, "Come on down !!" The price is right Pat.

Malaysia is for newbie travellers 101... if you are new to travel asia... Malaysia is the place to start...
Nothing too exciting and extreme... drinking and partying is kept to a minimum...
But if you are travelling with family and children... this is the place... English is widely spoken... relatively safe and cheap...
You will experience Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures, and Various ethnicities in Borneo
Then you can visit the more hardcore places that is south east asia... 😊😊😊

KL is a unique and original capital city with diverse SE Asian ethnicities and an intriguing long past history set way back millions of years ago at the time of the 2nd ice age - in 15,000,000 AD.
KL was situated at the centre where the two rivers, the sungai Kuala and the sungai Lumpur meet to become Kuala Lumpur in the Nusantara Region where the biblical paradise, the Garden of Eden originated and where the earliest civilisation on earthquake developed and flourished.
Round about 15,000 the Krakatoa volcano erupted for two weeks till it sank into The Java Sea.
The NUSANTARA region from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, Celebes , Sulawasi all the way to East Timor and Australiaacross the Pacific Ocean was in darkness. The thick lava and dust swallowed up the sun. The temperature dropped and the sea water rose followed by a huge Tsunami. It grew colder as the sun could not pénétrate the thick lava and dust ...the Sunda Shelf sank bringing down the whole civilisation ...

_Terima kasih_ thanks to you and your dad for visiting KL/malaysia, and for the kind words 🥰
Amazing how your 75yo dad managed to put up thousands of steps day after day walking all over the city and could still climb that stairs with 272 steps, up and down again, superb! 👏👏👏
Yup, those are tip of the iceberg of what the country has, because apart from the big city attractions, malaysia also has its wonderful highlands and mountains, its dazzling beaches and islands, and its stunning underwater experiences if you love snorkeling and diving. And not to forget in the 2 borneo states of sabah and sarawak, there are many other exciting outdoorsy explorations too!
You two are definitely welcome to return to sample them another time ✌️In the meantime, enjoy your stay in singapore and in any other country you decide to visit. Take care, stay safe and have pleasant fun 👍

That art museum looks like an absolute must see! With the bird park I wonder if they have to keep some birds separate from others because they would prey on the others (or be aggressive to people)? Even so I completely get your point about not wanting to see any birds or animals living in too-small enclosures. I was amazed by how chilled out the ones in the main space were, just snoozing or sitting about, letting people right up close!

Hi Alina, just came across your videos! especially love your filming of the places you visited, very professional. Just wanted to point out that the part about visiting tugu negara, 9:36, the "Malayan Emergency" was not a fight against British colonialism, but against the Communist Party of Malaya. At the time, the country was already on its way to independence through discussions with the British government. The transition to an independent country happened peacefully in 1957 but the fight against the communists continued for several more years after that with the support of British, Australian and New Zealand troops. Fun fact, the sculpture featuring many soldiers was designed by American Sculptor, Felix de Waldon, who also designed the US Marine Corp Iwo jima Memorial at Arlington.

    Hello Alina,
You are right, the city really is worth visiting. Especially Your clips with background audio ( not noise ) sucked me in. Like the talking shot at the Batu Caves, 13:03. I think a little bit of such an ambient sound inside of the caves together with the music would suck me in even more.
    🙂👍🏻
    Best regards, Ralf

Hello Prairie flatlanders! 😄 When I was in Western Canada, I was amazed how flat it was. However, you had this gorgeous, clear night sky hanging over you like a dome, not to mention the large, shimmering, farmlands. Thank you for this wonderful overview of KL. Please do come back and see the rest of the country.

Your Dad is funny sometimes! He has a simple farmer demeanor to him.
    The flag there looks interesting!
Hungry, now, after watching the restaurant part! Good looking food! ,🇨🇦🇺🇸🇺🇦👍😎
