Portuguese and spanish speakers have problems with auxiliar verbs because we only have one 😭 french has two like italian
Italian has 3 auxiliary verbs - essere, avere and stare
Italian is difficult to learn because of this. When we tried to learn Spanish it was MUCH easier.

Thank you for the video. Yes, those are all problems for me that I'm trying, not so successfully, to overcome. There are other problems that vex me in learning Italian in particular because they are so contrary to English, which I will tell you about below. The examples are from the video:
1. In English you would never put an article before a possessive. So, phrases like "le tue lezione" or "Il tue professore" always stop me in my tracks while I process it when reading or listening and are really hard for me to remember when trying (always painfully slowly) to create an Italian sentence myself. I am slowly getting used to It.
2. In English you never put an object (direct or indirect) at the end of another word. I can't think of an example of when we combine words at all other than with an apostrophe ("don't," "wouldn't"). So, a phrase like "E como evitarli" usually freezes me a little.
3. Just the differences between word order in general always makes me go back and forth a few times until I re-order the sentence in my mind. I hear you that I should read as a phrase and just accept its Italian qualities, but it's hard. "Ma la notizio buono" or "ce lo meritavamo" reverses for me the positions of noun and adjective and I have to think about it.
4. Raffaele covered the problems with prepositions, and I will say that I find this problem especially difficult (it's the same problem in every language I have tried to learn a little about). I don't seem to be able to not translate word for word no matter how I try. "Ho giocato al calico." I read it as "I played to the soccer" first, and then I re-translate it in my head. Same with, for another example, "Creando tu stesso degli esempi."
5. It seems to me that Italian often uses the Infinitive where we in English would use a participle. "Primo di cadere" uses a preposition and the infinitive, whereas in English we would just use the participle "falling." When I see the infinitive, like "cadere" I reflexively translate it as "to fall."
6. I don't remember if I saw an example of using "ne" for "some," "about it" or "of it" in this video, but it is in others. For a long time it gave me trouble (I think I would reflexively think of the French negative - "ne"). But, I think I am starting to get used to it.
Those are some of my problems off the top of my head. I'm pretty sure my biggest problem is age, not that there is anything to do about it. I am also sure many people older than me can learn a new language relatively easily. But, I can't anymore, probably not without classes or immersion (which is not possible now, I'm afraid), though I still enjoy trying to learn despite my constant whining.
Thanks, as always, for the wonderful videos, which I am sure is a lot of work. I have watched many other language videos, including about Italian, and these are, for me, the most watchable and fun. I look forward to them every week.

The auxiliary verbs and prepositions throw me off, I think his suggestion to learn them as a “block” is a good one. The genders of the nouns is not too hard-there’s really only memorizing for singular nouns that end in -e and those occasional masculine nouns that end in -a. At least it doesn’t have 3 genders like German! LOL.
Lol after getting my Italian to an advanced level, I started learning German and now I take back all the times I complained about how hard learning Italian was 😂 Italian seems like a piece of cake

Se ti posso aiutare: i verbi transitivi vogliono l'ausiliare avere, dato che reggono un complemento oggetto, es. ieri io ho mangiato una mela, dato che soggetto (io) ho (ausiliare) mangiato (verbo transitivo) che cosa? una mela (complemento oggetto)
I verbi intransitivi vogliono l'ausiliare essere, es. ieri io sono strato al cinema, stare è un verbo intransitivo, dato che non può reggere un complemento oggetto., infatti non puoi dire sto che cosa?, ma sto dove?
Il plurale di preposizione è preposizioni. Meglio dire bel video, suona meglio.

Per quanto riguarda il verbo ausiliare per il passato prossimo, c'è una regola quasi concreto (perché ci sono sempre eccezioni in italiano). I verbi transitivi, cioè tutti che coinvolgono un'azione fatta al oggetto della frase si coniugano con avere: ho fatto la pizza (cosa hai fatto? La pizza).
Per i verbi intransitivi, si usa il verbo essere (quasi tutti i verbi di movimento, tempo etc). Sono passati 3 mesi, è andata via, siete scesi finalmente). 😉
E per favore , non dimenticate il congiuntivo con l'ipotesi di 2ndo tipo, se ci fosse tempo oggi, andrei al banco.
Concordo. Secondo me non ha senso imparare per ogni verbo l'ausiliare, ma solo la regola.
CIAO, sono dall'Argentina, la mia madrelingua é ( sono scrivendo senza dizionario né correttore dal cellulare e questo computer non ha l'altro accento, scusa se faccio molti errori) sono professoressa d'inglese e voglio imparare a parlare l´italiano, lo capisco quasi tutto,. Tu, Raffaele, hai detto esattamente quelo io dico sempre to (haha English) a miei studenti per 40 anni o piú , penso che abbiamo raggione, questi consigli sono correttisimi , ma senza la prattica con madre lingua tutto i giorni non riesco a parlare meglio, ho bisogno di fare pratica ogni giorno.

Excellent advice but I wish Raffaele spoke a little slower.
Mi è piaciuta la parte relativa ai suggerimenti per imparare qualsiasi lingua. L’unico punto è il punto 5 (?) dove dici che non bisogna focalizzarci troppo sulla grammatica. Per me questo è vero, ma fino a un certo punto. Per es. sto studiando la lingua russa. Se uno non impara almeno le basi grammaticali (e aver studiato il latino è un grosso vantaggio) non riuscirà a esprimere nemmeno concetti più semplici. Sono invece d’accordissimo di imparare frasi fatte e non singole parole. Ma anche qui, fino a un certo punto.
imparare a coniugare correttamente i verbi italiani è l'alfa e l'omega dello studio della lingua italiana! anche se è molto noioso:D

È difficile azzeccare la pronuncia della zeta e anche sapere quando la esse è pronunciata come una zeta.

I thought the same. This is why I like Matteo and Katie - they speak slowly enough so that beginners can follow them.
I watched most of the video at .75 speed. That helped a lot!
That’s totally valid, but it would be unfair for Katie and Matteo to only acknowledge beginners. For more advanced people, this is fantastic ear practice. These videos were hard for me too but believe me, there will come a day when you don’t have to stare at the subtitles and try to decipher them as the video plays.
