One thing I've always found puzzling is what happened to the port at Lorient in UBOAT? Lorient is one port that should be added to the game, because it was actually one of the principal u-boat bases in WW2. I've actually seen the old u-boat pens there. Another thing I wish they would implement is having a tonnage totaliser for warships sunk. At the moment, you only seem to be credited with merchant tonnage. Okay, the principal aim of the u-boat campaign was to hit the convoys which were supplying the United Kingdom, so the more merchant ships sunk was important, but so was sinking warships and reducing the Allies ability to wage war. If you can sink a battleship or an aircraft carrier, you should receive some reward for that.
I really enjoy this game. I really enjoy watching the boat moving through the sea and the various weather effects. I remember my years in the navy and can't help comparing my experiences to life on these submarines (I was a destroyer man many years ago). I'm having trouble with the torpedo calculations (even on easy). I'd like to just lock on and the other officers automatically make the correct calculations (like "Silent service" used to). I noticed they have made a mistake (Submarines don't use loud alarms when submerged for obvious reasons) On the surface they did If they spotted an incoming aircraft and there were no enemy ships around. Crash dive if immediately if you see any aircraft. Seconds matter. Experienced patrol aircraft will use clouds to conceal their approach (until the advent of radar on submarines). The AA guns are far too accurate. I spent six years as an AA gunner many years ago and have fired .50 cal. Tripod mounted to a steel deck. The kills that players are getting are ridiculously unobtainable in real life. If the devs are interested the speed of sound makes explosion sounds lag behind the sight of them. Shells from navy guns will arrive before you hear them being fired (if more than about a kilometer away). Also the deck guns are being used in conditions far too rough. The gun crew would be swept away, and they wouldn't be able to score hits anyway. Don't use the radio if you don't have to. The enemy can quickly triangulate your location and aiert any nearby planes to attack you. Enemy merchants will report immediately your course, speed and location to the convoy commander. Ships are smoking too much. The convoy escorts will police any ship smoking. Destroyers don't smoke much unless they are booking it, since they changed from coal to oil burners. Destroyers can't go fast and listen on the hydrophones. A convoy is like a thundering herd of elephants. Use this fact. Have fun everyone.
Speaking about new ports included: Buenos Aires has been added, so when the war comes to an end (april/ may 1945), you may "sit out the fervor" in blissfull south america instead of a POW camp in GB/ Canada or other cold climate places. I am aware at least one player has done that!
Thanks for the video. Off topic but SH4 with the FotRSU mod and these graphics would be perfect. I wonder if the U-Boat team has any plans to make a Pacific Fleet boat game.
The explosion psychics is good to have updated - currenty its a bit much. It sounds and feels more like every hit with a torpedo on a ship is more like a mini-nuke. Scaling that to something that feels more realistic while having the crew on the cargo ships feel more alive is a good thing. ps. being able to select what type of torpedeo with a better UI would also be good.
Really looking forward to the release. I really hope they do something with the annotation tools for the map. SH3 was very good at this. Good protractor, ruler and the map looked like an authentic scribbled map scribbled afterwards. In UBoat, it isn't easy to even put a pencil mark at an exact spot. This war of silence should emphasize the map, being the real battle arena. BTW how did those torpedoes hit at all? I don't know if you became aware of this, but you actually set the angle on bow to about 180 degrees with a mouse slip click at @8:57. So the computer should be thinking that you shot directly from their aft and therefore should have done neglible sideways compensation to lead the target.
Great video, great to see this game still being supported. I'd like to see some sub attack on destroyers above, either floating mines or circulating torps ? whatever is historically correct ?

I want an actual crew management system. What we have now works, but I want it to actually have an impact to the game. It is 100% possible to play the game and not have any crew management set. Also, if we board neutral ships, maybe something more than the "dialogue" options we currently have. Cargo loading/unloading times need to be tweaked a bit, especially if moving stacks of items. I can only carry one round of AA at a time? Also, more variety of missions, and I have said it before, but a secret "Make it to Argentina" mission in 1945 would be awesome
Kiel canal only runs from Baltic sea cutting threw the bottom of Denmark, into the North Sea, as in between Norway and England. So no it doesn't let you cut threw say La Rochelle, all the way to Say Kiel, without traversing thenchannel, which is a death trap, or going the long way round the top of Scotland. It basically runs the bottom of the Jutland (Denmark) peninsula. Still nice to be able to cut through Denmark, because traversing the waters near Sweden will yield no enemies guaranteed unless of course you run into the odd Polish ship which will stop happening after 1940 starts. That kind of becomes irrelevant because why would you want to launch from Kiel when there's options like willanshaven, or by June, St. Naizare, with its famous bunker style u-boat pens. Which I think are still there.. Also la Rochelle. and. Even Brest, these were the big U-Boat Bases, I guess, the Kiel canal will become relevant again after the liberation of France which force do you votes back into which force the U boats to re base in germany and norway. anyway what I must be happy to see is new damn submarines, maybe some XIBs, or of course the electro boat, type 21, which is a super awesome advanced boat, which can travel submersed on batteries at like 14 to 16 knots full speed. Like most wunderwaffe, truly was a great advance, on par with jet engines but too little too late not implemented anywhere near enough to stop the flood. I really love to see one of those modeled in the game. I also really enjoy the damage control gameplay If they feel like flushed it out a little bit more I would think that was awesome. Plus the allies need to become much better at tracking the boats, as they were in 1942 or 1943 becoming experts at ASIDC, making destroyers much more terrifying even if you go quiet they'll just ping your hull, Even if they can't hear you they just have to get a couple good pings on you and you're basically found, not like you can really go much faster than two or three knots to actually stay quiet.

Overal the game is ok, but what I really need, (and what the classic Silent Hunter series excelled at) are very long and suspenseful bouts with aggressive destroyers raining depth charges all over the place. In this game, you seem to hardly ever get seriously attacked. There should be a real possibility of being sunk everytime you attack an escorted convoy.
