I watch that one a few dozen times, then another, and another, this one again, & I'll watch some more. She's truly awesome

The last five notes of this song bring me to tears and how it just diminishes so beautifully and to me this particular piece by Chopin is about life and is about a beginning and an end and it's okay even when things are not going so well to look at the beauty that can surround us and it just really renders me into a very peaceful place

In the movie it was Chopin's Ballade No 1 in G minor played by Polish pianist Janusz Olejniczak. In real life it was Chopin's Nocturne No 20 in C# minor. You can find that here on TH-cam played by Władysław Szpilman himself in his home in 1997. The German soldier was Captain Wilm Hosenfeld.

I love Chopin's music for piano - nocturnes, etudes, and preludes. Such beauty. The last thing I ever played way back when I was kid was the Military Polonaise, which I initially loved, but my teacher insisted on perfection, full memorization, and a flawless recital before she'd let me move on to something else. Well, that wasn't happening - I was only so-so at playing. But after a year with that one piece, I basically quit practicing and playing, or trying. And I quit playing altogether. Now, 40 years hence, I wish I could remember how to play anything. Your ability and capability is astonishing, Dasha. Thank you for sharing these with us all. You've got a new follower.
You can always bring back your power and your skills even after 40 years. An adult person can be much more resilient and meticulous with practice. Don't be afraid to try, start small and I am sure, one day you will be able to play that Polonaise or even something more difficult! Good luck!
