"Eliminate the buses". Are you serious? Do you realise that in Europe the buses and coaches are a nice and clean way to travel? Not like the ones that I encountered when I lived in the USA.
You will love Not just bikes, it's similar to this stuff but he REALLY knows what he is on about and he lives in the Netherlands so he knows good places
3:20 MISTAKE: "European countries dont feature in most congested cities" ... what he meant to say: WESTERN european countries. Istanbul (50% of it), Moscow, Kyiv, Odessa, Saint Petersburg, Bucharest ... all in europe ... EASTERN europe!
Average price of petrol in UK is $6.40 per US gallon, add to that $236 that we pay in annual road tax (don't pay it and your car will be crushed). Added to that, if you drive in London, you'll pick up a congestion charge of $18.60 a day!
My VED (Road Tax) is £20 a year, the cost of road tax is not a fixed amount, it depends on many things, the $236 is what you pay for your car not what We as in everyone pays.
Buses are a very good option in places where rail traffic is not effective. In my city in Northern Europe, most public busses are electric, some use natural gas, and just a few run on diesel. And for example, Sweden has busses that use bio diesel made from bio waste that comes from their residents. So the buses here are a bit different from yours. They're usually clean and safe too.
It's not free, you buy a travel card which costs you 49 Euros, granted that's cheap and I really wish the UK had similar schemes but it's not free, to put in perspective it's not much more than a return trip to London for me that's 40 mins each way
The current UK average price for fuel is about $6.50 to $7 per US gallon. You may has seen an increase in fuel cost but its still a long way from we pay, much of which is tax.
mind you, that railway map at the start is just international lines, not national/regional. 3:45 Elimate busses and mopeds? huh... why would you want to do that... INCREASE public transport and cycling/e-bikes/mopeds (e-bikes are electric by definition, it is what the e stands for in their name). What you want to get rid of is personal cars inside city centers. Everything that gets people out of their cars and into/onto public transport or shared transport/cycling is a good thing. Remember, one bus replaces about 15 to 20 cars. 4:54 note that those are prices per Liter, one gallon is 3,7 liter. 1,88 x 3.7 is 7,52 a gallon in the Netherlands. 10:21 But that is just because this is the home of the Dutch, the Netherlands. Dutchman here, fun fact. I can drive on my bike from the most northern point of the country to the most southern point without ever leaving the cycling infrastructure. This means 485km/300 miles of uninterupted cycling. Happy 2025 mate, I hope it will be a good one for you.
it's adorable that you think you pay a lot for petrol in the US 'As of March 2024, the average price of petrol in the UK is 145.3 pence per liter, while the average price of diesel is 153.9 pence per liter. The price difference between diesel and unleaded has decreased to 8.6 pence per liter.' I've done this by the liter and not by the gallon as the US also doesn't know what a gallon is.
@9:50 first time watcher, I really like your takes. The biggest reason for crime and violence is poverty and poor people tend to not be able to afford a car. The world really needs to change. We don't need to produce wealth for some headgefond and use their earnings as a measurement for the state of our economy. People are dying and starving because for someone to be as rich as 1 billion dollars, thousands of humans have to suffer.
Even talking about inflation, inflation in the US doesn’t even compare to Europe (EU), let alone the UK. That’s why most Europeans almost laugh when the US complains about inflation. Granted, food prices and other things are more expensive in the US, but the wide margin in inflations means that that gap is closing over time and the US as a centralised state vs dozens of politically competing entities means that’s the US has more autonomy and control to implement programs than Europe has, yet it hardly tries
The other day I paid 1.899 Euro for 1 litre of gas. That's $ 1.975. There are 3.785412 litres in a US Gallon. So we pay the equivalent of $ 7.48 per Gallon.
1 gallon is 3,7 liter. The prices in Europe are in liters. And we pay for example where i live in the Netherlands 1,90 euro for 1 liter. So 1,90 times 3,7= 7,03 euro for 1 gallon. 1 EURO is 1,04 USD. So that is 7,03 times 1,04 = 7,31 USD for 1 gallon in the Netherlands. However other parts of Europe it is cheaper then the Netherlands. I do not know if gas is cheaper in those countries then the US, i think not
And even though the US has about 1/5 of Europes rail system they have about 4times more accidents 5:28 bro the US pays half on petrol/diesel/gas than the U.K.
That map with the yellow lines at the beginning doesn't show all our rail lines , not even 1% ,bad example , 1 line in london? 😂 no trains to liverpool, how do you get to Yorkshire? No trains in the east? What am i missing🤔 i have 5 train stations within a mile from my house yet that map shows no line. Google London tube map its a cobweb ,the whole country is like that , you can get to every city, town and most villages by train in the uk. I must be missing something🤔 and if im confused an American wouldn't know.
They aren't the best maps for a non-European to look at. I'm on the Waterloo line, and trains go to towns dotted all over the south and south coast. Although, it could be that the maps are only showing the fast lines, which he could have explained ... but now I'm 2nd guessing myself as Cross Country are usually fast trains and there are no lines showing from Reading on the map, and that train goes up to Manchester.
I like argument, USA is too big for railroads.....Trains was invented for stable, long range transport so it would be just one more reason to have them :D
The usa pays nothing for petrol in comparison to most of the first world, at the lowest its been in the last 20 years in the uk its about $6 a gallon usa. I pay £1.30 per litre which is about $7 per gallon. The usa drilled and produced more oil than ever before under biden, google it . I was in the usa a few months ago and prices in philidelphia was around $3.20 per gallon, in LA they were like $4 something. Although our car insurance is way cheaper, i pay about £500 a year and have for the last 8 years. Our cars are also way more fuel efficient, we also drive a lot more diesel cars, diesels are as common as petrol in europe, my 2014 skoda octavia gets 60mpg on highways, the average american vehicle gets barely 25mpg. Also we can choose to take, trains, busses, bike or walk, we dont need to drive everywhere, so the expense goes down a lot. Im never going to drive from london to berlin or barcelona even though i could easily because the flights are only like £30-50.
HELLOOO... Gas or gasoline in US are much much cheaper. A gallon is 3.82 liters and we pay, in Denmark, about 2 dollar per liter. That is 8 dollar pr gallon......almost. And buy a car is more expensive than in US. A Ford Mustang costs around 40.000 dollar and that prize is PLUS 150% in Denmark
Got one thing I want to see what the Netherlands is doing, ⅓ of the country below sea level and claim land from the sea, go do that American, you got flooding? How fare below sea level
If there were 2 billion spaces in to park in places like London i would like it tbh.. It atm is so hard to find a space and when you do you are paying SO much money it is like £5 per hour... what if you are working on that street your blowing a 3rd of your wage on just parking... plus they make you move your car every 4 hours! If your car is in the same space for more than 4 hours you could get a ticket or clamped it's nuts. ticket being 60-120 pounds and the clamp removal being just as expensive.. then you have the congestion charge... oh god i am going on a rant at this point. But a congestion charge meaning you have to pay £15 pounds every time you drive into London. there are apps now but you used to have to go into a news agent to physically buy that. We do a lot of things well in the UK but dealing with traffic is sadly not one of them... In fact it is horrible.
Make America great again why not improve all the city's infrastructure with better railways and public transport. Here in my city you can get a bus to most places in my city, they run a bus to most places every 15 mins or 30 mins.
And the invention of trains by the British helped the USA grow to what it is cause they could settle in the west of the country and get things there like trade their quickly we helped you in so many ways just like when we was fighting Hitler alone we was spending so much on war good from the USA is helped the USA army become what is was before it entered the war cause without our trade the USA wouldn’t of lasted long
STOP STOP! Seriously, do you think EVs are better than fossil-fueled vehicles? So you're WRONG about EVs. Sure, fossil-fueled vehicles are bad for the climate BUT EVs are bad for the environment and for the earth. For all the precious metals needed to manufacture the batteries, come from the ground, they make huge open-cast mines to get to the metals. That ground is forever destroyed, then it costs billions and billions, which are required to lay power lines in the ground, more cables up in power poles and more charging stations. In addition, EVs weigh more than fossil-fueled vehicles. BEST for both the environment and the climate as well as each person's wallet and time, is that they invested more in synthetic fuel that already exists and is environmentally friendly. Then you can keep the fossil-fueled car you have and instead fill up with synthetic fuel. The car then becomes environmentally friendly, it is quick to refuel, barely 2 minutes. Charging an EV takes hours. Don't you understand that everyone who decides in each country is bribed with money from those who build EVs and battery manufacturers. Elon Musk wouldn't have become so rich and sold so many Teslas if he hadn't bribed people who decide. Because if every country had invested in synthetic fuel instead of batteries, Musk would have been poor today with debts instead.
@3:30 (comparing EU railway map with the US). The EU map here only lists international connections. The real network is much finer divided.
If all Americans knew how we live in Europe, they would stop believing that they live in the best country in the world.

I have no problem with the cost in the UK. I can manage it very well. However, I do not live in a city, let alone London!
That's the thing, people is the USA have never paid the actual price of fuel, it's been heavily subsidised for since the last century.
My VED (Road Tax) is £20 a year, the cost of road tax is not a fixed amount, it depends on many things, the $236 is what you pay for your car not what We as in everyone pays.

As a German, I pay €49 per month and can use almost any public transportation in Germany for free.
58. Prices went up.

@@luvstellauk Maybe you should read it again.
I no longer pay anything when I get on the bus or train, unlike with the Bahn Card.
@@houghi3826 right

Come over for a visit. Release some of your frustration. It's not perfect but it is different. ❤

Starts by emphasising that Europe is significantly bigger than just the EU then just focuses on the EU.
