If Neal likes Peter & Ace, that's good enough for me.
I agree especially Ace.
Such a funny, lovable goofball.
Just listen to Gene and Paul talk about themselves for more than a couple of minutes and it's obvious who the protagonists and antagonists were in that band
Me too!
@@jim2lane there are numerous audiobooks where Paul Stanley has nothing but negativity toward Peter Criss
@@lakebay972 agreed. You must have read my intentions with my comment incorrectly 😉
My first concert was 1975. Rush opened for Kiss. My ticket cost $ 3.50. Fantastic show at the Medford Armory
My first KISS concert was also in 1975 at Cobo Hall in Detroit. I was 6 at the time, just don't remember who opened up for them it could of been RUSH for all I
I remember. Great Show though. Seen the original band many times after. My last with the original band was at old Tiger Stadium in Detroit. I've never seen KISS with Thayer and Singer they are just 2 wannabes in my opinion.
Tom Hanks?????❤
Epic!!!!!
Medford Ma?
Do you remember the cost of a beer? Or did they not serve any back then?
Just wondering. I took my daughter to see a Kiss show on her 11th birthday. She's turning 30 this July. Damn I feel old..
The price of a beer was $8.00 at that show.
I have no idea what the price is today.
Talk about emotional intelligence. There will never be another Neil. Such a good man.
Beautiful brilliant man. Wow, what insight
Anyone with a brain can see that Mr Peart is a highly intelligent person.
@@danielsullivan1388 and anyone with ears can tell he’s at the very top of the list of great rock drummers…in my opinion song writers also
All 3 Rush members are very intelligent and from the little I know are all good guys. For these guys to stay so loyal to their friendship for their whole life...that speaks volumes to me.
The sad part is the media scorched him early on to the point where he wouldn't talk. All that insight and knowledge he might have shared. And, sadly, media has gotten even less trustworthy since then.
KISS and RUSH were a great pairing. All you hear is both bands saying good things about each other. So rare.
Close your eyes. He sounds exactly like Jeff Goldblum.
I think it's because the guys in Rush were both incredibly focused musicians and good people.
Gene and Paul probably respected their work ethic and musicianship while Ace and Peter probably just enjoyed them as people.
The reason KISS could never get along is because you had 2 guys that put the band/business first and 2 guys who just loved to play rock n roll and have fun which didn't mix.
@@Chadillac-xq7xk Exactly. You wrote what I thought. Ace and Peter were both just as much as a part of early KISS as the other two. That’s why they were equal parts early on. Ace and Peter were also in it to have fun while it seems that Gene and Paul took the fun out of it. Well they didn’t party much either so it probably was never going to last that long and who knows, maybe on the business side of things Gene and Paul wanted the other two gone so they could make more money 💰. That’s how it seems to me because they didn’t want to pay them to come out for the final tour
Gene is insane
Gene Simmons once said he couldn't understand why these guys did not partake in the groupie scene like him and Paul. They read books backstage! Love Neil's honesty
In this clip, Neil says Gene and Paul never partied, they were always a perfectly focused corporation, they knew what they were doing, with notebooks of records and planning costumes, etc... but sadly Ace and Peter were there to party and couldn't keep it together.
They smoked bud though
@@k.d.kelley2830 Gene and Paul say they didn't. Got proof?
Because Rush wasn't a gimmick. KISS was gimmicky from day one. All about money and fame. Rush was always very humble.
He's talking about RUSH✌️🥴.@@familiardave6540
The best rock percussionist to ever live. What a gentleman. His intelligence was truly amazing. He was a very private man, that just loved doing what he did. RIP Neil. You deserve it. Thank you for everything.
I liked the fact when in an interview Neil said he had a poster of John Bonham on his wall and they shared the same influences. Neil was a true master of his craft.
Bonham #1 Peart #2
@@jayclarke6671think you got that backwards bud
@@hilldwler420 i place neil and john side by side! both were great
@jayclarke6671 peart could fo anything Bonham ever did in his life by the age of 21.. FACT
Neil Peart. Good vibe. RIP
"The softer hearted ones like Peter and Ace". Well put
He meant softer headed. They're both idiotic losers, who could have had the world by the tail, but booze and bs was more important to both of those wastes.
And neil, under his suit of armor, he had a gentle spirit. I am glad I got to witness his creative genius.
They were drunk and high lol. Total aholes from what I've seen and heard
@johno2655 thanks so much for clearing that up! I put so much more faith in your account (having never met them) than I put in Neil's (who opened for them more than 40 times).
This may not seem like rock and roll. But does anybody remember a singer?Songwriter named jim croce from the seventies
Neil Peart was a true gentleman! A real class act!
Geddy said it best: Say whatever you want about them musically, but there was no harder working band - determined to put on a good show and give people their money’s worth - than Kiss. That was good for us to see, starting out.
I love Rush and I’m not a Kiss fan, but Kiss busted ass to give you your money’s worth, and Rush followed that example.
Work work hard, they grew up with that mentality, kiss understood you worked just as hard , therefore they busted their ass to give you a good show, taught Rush a lot, I respect that.
IF you want to make a living playing music you NEED to have a strong work ethic and business sense. If you don’t have those qualities, but are very talented you will still make a living in the music business, but you will be ripped off think of it as being an independent contractor, or a small business owner. You need to have a business sense and a strong work ethic. You are working for yourself. Why would you want to rip yourself off?
So far as it seems; Paul & Gene stopped being as much "for the fans" & more "for the business" in the mid 80's after Peter & Ace parted ways.
The 90's gave us "the reunion tour" & "Psycho Circus"; but it became obvious after Peter & Ace left AGAIN where the loyalties were🤔
The 2023 tour proved the dead horse was beat...but [DON'T] GET ME WRONG:
I've been a fan of the "IDEA" of KISS since the 70's; but not so much what Paul & Gene did toward the end.
$1,500 a seat in "the nosebleeds" since 1996?🙄😒
F'k THAT!🤔🖕
@@maestroaxeman Agree with what you said about Gene & Paul but, I saw Kiss in 1996 at the Orlando Arena. My seats were in the center of the Arena in the bleachers (about 15-20 feet up from the floor) on the right side of the stage. Paid no more than $80 for my seats & they were really good (for the price) seats. I could see the entire stage clearly with naked eyes & I had binoculars, which was like sitting on Front row.
Without a doubt kiss was a great show put musically Rush tops kiss * 10 and play the longer show to boot
Neil Peart was awesome ❤️
An understatement!
Neil was a gift to us all. What a wonderful human.
I appreciate that an icon like Neil can talk about men who were "softer hearted" with respect. In many ways we need more men with emotional intelligence.
Rush went to Gene when Rush opened for Kiss, and said they didnt get good treatment, no wardrobe to change and so on. Gene went to the promoter and said, we aint playing until RUSH gets just as good treatment as KISS. Geddy Lee wrote about tjis and it was mentioned in * Nothing too loose * book. One of the best books i have read.
I love that Giddy does not talk bad about them at all.
"Say what you will about their music but KISS treated us very well.
Also KISS and RUSH had the work ethic
it's funny when rush opened for aerosmith they got treated bad. so years go by and joe perry's project open for rush and geddy asked him if they had enough sound checks and everything else cause i don't wanna treat people like you treated us. joe perry apologize.
@@metadeth578They tried to pull that shit with Kansas and almost got their asses kicked by Dave Hope (caught them trying to unplug shit sidestage during the set).
Geddy and Gene are both ethnically Jewish singing bass players whose parents were holocaust survivors. When you think about that, it makes sense that they are friends.
@@RCAvhstapeTrue. Although to call Gene a singer is maybe a stretch.
Kiss and Rush were good Friends , they got along great , Alex used to play a character called the Bag...used to crack Ace up no end....but to be fair it didn't take much
You can imagine the laughs between Alex and Ace, 2 crazies from both ends. I'm sure it was always hysterical!
Gene wasn’t a fan of The Bag, so that made Ace like it even more.
I think a little weed exacerbated the humor.
“Where’s the bag”? “Bring out the bag man” 😂
The greatest drummner of all time
Yup. Well, either him or Animal from the Muppets.
One of the best!
He had a armada of drums and various other accrudiments and he was definitely something to see.and hear...he let nothing go to waste, he was 100% ever time he was on stage...no doubt about that....
Absolutely!
@@steverogers2603 Wasn't Neil the puppeteer for Animal?
This is how you form your concepts of a band... first hand knowledge, highly perceptive, fair, honest person.
Exactly! Not skewed by the fans this was an truthful outlook on how each of the members of KISS functioned in the band.
I love his analysis of the personality types in Kiss. Calls it so well pulling no punches
The thing is.. he's not punching anyone. He acknowledges their differences without judgment or derision.
Rush will always be Canada's best export to the world, in my humble opinion...and Kiss was never the same after Ace and Peter left...
Helix and triumph as well.
@@zenzen7136 Triumph ! Hell yeah...Rik Emmett, Mike Levine, and Gil Moore...wow, can't believe I forgot they were a Canadian band...saw em twice. Great shows. Thanks for reminding me 👍

Neil ... The best Drumer in the world for his time!! The best.
They didn't start that way, but Rush became the finest group in popular music history, in terms of highest level skills, great compositions, great lyrics, and extreme longevity (40 years+). Lucky to have seen them 15 times live.
i saw Rush 9 times and they always put on a great show!! i saw kiss 3 times but i got to see them in 96 reunion tour and it was awesome!
Ditto, right down to the number of shows I’ve seen (15).
Neil defending Ace And Peter
I miss the professor. His time came too early. Some of the greatest music and lyrics ever recorded. I met Neil, Alex and Geddy in by the back entrance of the Palladium on May 9,1980. The Permanent Waves tour. I was 16 years old. We almost missed them because Alex and Neil both cut their hair short and we didn’t recognize them at first, lol. But we recognized Geddy right away. The meeting was short, about 2 minutes. Of all of them Neil was the most courteous and professional if not friendly. I still have my Polaroid photos from that day and their autographs. At the time it was a life-changing meeting for me. It’s very rare that you get to meet your R&R idols in real life.
If there is a rock and roll heaven... you know they have a hell of a band...
RIP the Professor ❤️❤️
That's quite the observation. It gets right to the core of the people with big hearts
Wow. What an eloquent way of saying what he did. Kudos
There's not without reason we call him the professor.Love, RIP. You were one of a kind.
You don't have to be the biggest name, but when the big names want you, that speaks volumes.
RIP Neil ..you were a really fantastic drummer!
July 1977, Illinois National Guard. KIZZ was the headliner. RUSH came on as the opening act I was forever changed, i was 9. been dabbling in percussion. That first show, changed everything for me. I've seen RUSH 37 times. Met "the Boys" 3 times.
I woke January 8th and my phone was flooded, I was devastated. I took a week off in January 2020 and spent it driving and listening. The Professor even after passing to join his wife and daughter, was themost appreciated rock drummer. . RIP Sir. ~R.
The calls and texts immediately came to me, too, from everybody who knows me as a HUGE Rush fan. I first heard the bad news from a call from my wife, which was simultaneous to a text from my sister. I have friends and acquaintances who associate “Rush” with ME.
That was when I was born July 19. When I was 13 I'd sneak into my dad's records I w0asnt supposed to touch and read the lyrics on 2112 as I listened. I was lucky to see them 4 times. R.I. p. Neil
ONe of the things I am sad about, I never really listened to Rush until Neil Passed away. Other than a few songs on the radio. Neil was such a great drummer, Geddy is a great bass player and I always thought Alex was one of the most under rated guitarist ever. Wish I listened sooner and with a more open ear to Neils playing.
That's not a sad story, that's a great story. It means his legacy and influence will live on. You can't say that about 99% of the people on this planet when they're gone.
Welcome to the Rush family Steven. ❤
Never too late!! It just means that you have A LOT of new music to listen to!! The only dad thing would be if you never got to see them live. A RUSH show is something that stays with you forever!
Love you Neil. GOAT❤
If Ace and Peter were in good graces with Neil that tells me all I need to know. RIP Neil.
R.I.P. Neil Pert. May my Mighty Lord Jesus Christ bless your soul and bless and strengthen and comfort your family for eternity. 🥊💖🙏🏾
He was an atheist. He never accepted Jesus and his gift of everlasting life.
Neil Peart. The Professor. The master. Gentleman. Class act. One of the 5 greatest lyrical songwriters ever, and THE greatest drummer ever. R.I.P. 🌹
Neal Peart was always a decent person about the bands and people he worked with. RIP Professor, you and your words are sadly missed.
❤ Ace Frehley❤
Kiss always gave their opening acts a sound check. Many bands would not because they were afraid of the other band sounding as good or better than them. Kiss never worried about it because they put on such a great show it didnt matter how good the other band was, they knew there fans were going to respond to their stage show, presence and their songs.
Aerosmith was notorious for not treating other bands well. Ed Van Halen said Joe Perry was a dick to him early on and Kansas said Stephen Tyler was very insecure and tried to pull the plug on them when they opened for them because the crowd wanted them to play an encore.
KISS took huge bands on the road and always let them play they wanted
@@CatStanleySpaceDemon I can back that up, I met Joe Perry after their show
and he was a total dick! I still remember it like it happened yesteday and it was frgn 24 years ago
The biggest bands they took out and always treated them well
Aerosmith has a large reputation for being stupidly insecure and competitive. Just the opposite from Kiss, with Gene Simmons even contributing in the Rush's documentary with kind words and praising to the band. Certainly a big difference in there.
Neil: A force of nature, and a class act.
Truly an amazing man. So cool, so professional.
Right on Neil. Glad you all learned from the bands you hung with. Miss your rythms. Peace
R.I.P. brother Neil.
Because Ace and Peter were totally don't forget where you come from 🤘🏻
Ace would always want Lerxst to do the Bag character, he would roll on the floor in absolute joy
It’s still so heartbreaking that Neil is gone.
Could you imagine a reunion line up of KISS, Aerosmith, Rush, and Uriah Heap?
Two most influential drummers in my life neil p. and peter c
Such grace, especially because he (along with Geddy and Alex) probably saw a lot of crazy things.
Can never get enough of Niel Peart interviews
He was (is in Heaven) so smart and grounded! What an Excellent human being👍 I’m a Rush fan primarily because of him❤️
And,as it turned out,Rush turned out to be SO much better!!
He's correct about Ace and Peter, and the dynamic between them and Gene/Paul. I'm glad someone understood that.
Miss you Neil ⚘️🥁
Love, love, love Neil. He is so missed. Brilliant person and unbelievably good drummer. Just the best.
I didn't realize Neal Peart was a Class Act.😎
Look how classy Neil was. This is a man who would never speak ill of anyone. Gene and Paul were “focused”. Ace and Peter were the “softer hearted ones”.
A truly great man can find redemption in anyone. That was Neil.
Blessed to have the chance to chat with him. I knew he wasn't comfortable with die hard fans, so I just apologize and ask him to let me pay his bill. He laughed out, made me sit down and we spent two hours taking about cars and motorcycles... not a single word about Rush. Miss him so much.
Самый талантливый барабанщик за всю историю!
I love the stories Rush told about touring with UFO. Hilarious 😂
What were they?
@villegasguerreroantonioale6416 UFO were a rough group of guys. They called Geddy "Glee." During the era when Rush wore the robes, UFO would put slippers on their microphones. "Here's some slippers to go with your robe, Glee."
I saw Cheap Trick - U.F.O. and Rush in that order Cheap Trick was a new band UFO then Rush,U.F.O. With Michael Schenker stole the show !! The place was still buzzing long after U F O left the stage. !! It was the first concert I had ever attended !! The next day I bought ever album U.F.O. made with Michael Schenker !!! Great guitarist Michael Schenker is !!
Never would you have put KISS and Rush together? The year was 1976, and I was a raging KISS fan. I heard about the infamous KISS / Rush concerts, so I bought a Rush album, and I loved them.
The best part is that Rush came to Yakima, and I saw them play the Yakima Valley Community College gymnasium. I was only 15.
Rest In Paradise Neil ❣️
Rush was my first concert in 1979. Had tix for every tour from then to 2015.
They loved Kiss, but hated Aerosmith, who treated openers like sh*t.

This man read books instead of chasing cooze. That’s how he came up with most of the lyrics
Ace and Peter were rock n roll in kiss. Paul and Gene are the glitz and glamour
Neil got it right with Ace and Peter.
Not really, while I'm sure they were "lovable" guys, if they were the leaders of KISS the band would never have gone anywhere. "Lovable" doesn't abuse drugs, miss practice or show up late for gigs.
@DMDvideo10 sure it does when immersed in substance abuse.

@@erics9754 I've played in bands since the 70s. When you have a vision and passion for something and people get in the way with bad behavior or less commitment you can them. Either you're in or your out. Peter and Ace were more interested in being rockstars and actually doing the work.
Everytime I see an interview with a member of RUSH I become more and more impressed. I came to like Rush late in the game (1990's); I knew of them from the 80's but I started liking them in the 90's. A class act all the way.

KISS was a business, they made some OK music. Aerosmith is radio rock. Rush were musicians.

@CatStanleySpaceDemon thank you so much! I absolutely loved Neil, and really sad when the news came out that Rush was breaking up. Then shortly thereafter, Neil died, hence there was their reason. So, so sad and gone way too soon.
@@irshgrl500Rush never broke up. They just retired.
Neil was just amazing.
Neil didn’t deserve to have the ending of his life be so tragic rip.
I saw Rush 2 months after they got their new drummer. Sept 30 1974...Headliner/Billy Preston ...opening Kiss and Rush. "Finding My Way" was the first song of the evening. My bandmate and I were on stage right front row. I could touch the stage. We had no idea who Rush was so we got an 8trac and listened to it on the way to the concert. About a 45 min drive. Smoking some $35/oz Columbian Redbud...Rush blew us away. When Kiss came out we were like WTF!!! "Strutter" was their first song. Dont really remember Billy Preston...LOL
No doubt, when you 'go hard' you become hard .. and if that is not your true nature, it makes you brittle, unless you can give up the physical entirely and live on the light .. but then, you aren't being human, either. The human Journey is worth it .. take one, if you haven't yet!
Justice for Ace and Peter for real
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE PROFESSOR...giving praise to Ace and Peter.
That quick shirtless pic of Paul startled me .
Neil was such a great guy . Very human
First time i heard Rush was 2112 on 8track tape in 1977...saw them twice in concert on Signals and GUP tours...as good as it gets! Rush is the desert island band i would choose if i could only listen to one band.
I thought that was Tom Hanks!
They actually had to reshoot the cover for Moving Pictures because in the first shot Forrest Gump wandered into frame.
Neil is a far better human than Hanks.
Neil Peart 🥁amazing 🎓
Peter and Ace are the only two Kiss members I like. I agree with Neil.
Always so kind!RIP
I've heard many people say Aerosmith never treated opening bands well.
Ace is fuckin cool. Gene and Paul suck each other's hemorrhoids. Well thats not entirely true. Gene just supplies them for Paul.
I saw almost every band live in the 80's except Rush. It is a regret that's hard to live with.
Peart was the man behind the running gag on tour:
The mascot called "The Bag"😉
I understand Ace & Peter had alot of fun with the boys from RUSH🎶😎
Both KISS & RUSH will always speak good of eachother; but Neill Peart has said before that Gene would be too serious at times & it harmed Ace & Peter MORE than "kept them in-line".
It's fair to say Neal was an exceptional person and musician. Rush will last forever
"Pool Thtanley!"
Well just lot a whole lot of respect for Rush, not that they needed it but defending KISS for anything is subject to exile or worse.
And never got a sound check! F.U. Aerosmith!😂
Classy. Mr.Peart summed up the 2 bad boys from Kiss well. He stated a fact so eloquently most overlooked it.
