dude, thank you for your vids, I love so much getting off work grabbing a drink and sitting down to enjoy your videos. Love the old school, also makes me want to get down in my retro corner. Love it! Thanks SNES DRUNK! Cheers!
This was one of my favourite rental games back in the day along with urban strike and jungle strike I remember exactly where the store is and the mcdonalds that used to be right next to it 😅 Neither are there anymore of course mcdonalds was very unsuccessful and nobody shopped there 😮 Great memories where i used to rent is where we got our snes and ps1 for our family way back then
This game is sort of a hidden gem. I found this one some years back and I eventually put it on my SNES Classic. It's really fun couch co-op with two players!
You always find a way to mention Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball and now I get it. I just played it for the first time on my quest to play every SNES game and that game is BRUTAL! It's clear we've both been psychological scarred. Only 708 more to go
@@ItsGroundhogDay I'm really glad you have positive memories of this game. That's why I wanted to play every SNES game in the first place. So I could connect with others who played the same games!
@@andrewbrowning1931 I'm playing through all the games in Chronological order but since I don't have exact release dates for every game, I'm playing them in alphabetical order month to month. I'm currently in November 1991
Speaking of helicopter games, would you consider doing a comparison video of Desert/Jungle/Urban strike on the SNES and Mega Drive? I strongly prefer the Mega Drive versions, but I would like to hear your thoughts. Little known fact is that Jungle and Urban Strike both had a DOS port, very well done DOS ports, with a unique extra level each. I've played the DOS version of Desert Strike and the 'bonus level' is absolutely brutal. I beat the 'base' game without cheating, but in this level I could barely get a look in.
Note that being named "John Helicopter" does help in the multiplayer mode, as it makes it easier to find a second player, because, who wouldn't want to hang out with a dude named John Helicopter? Then he pulls down his pants, you realise how he got that nickname, and you get the hell out of there.
I rather enjoyed this game growing up. Played the crap out of VS mode. Then I found out a trick that pissed my friends off. Grab unguided missiles, (not heat seeking) fire them and then switch to your guns. The missiles will lock on cause of your machine gun reticle. Why pick unguided missiles? Well there's more of em. This also works in Mech Warrior SNES.
I am curious to hear Drunk's opinions about Desert Strike. I rented it and the other Strike games as a kid a few times, but I never hear much about them.
There great games but they are also hard at first. Desert Strike gives you a bunch of tasks to do like rescue downed pilots, take out AA guns, destroy radar stations and so on. Plus you can blow up buildings and many have ammo or fuel in thrm for you. Later on you can find a winch upgrade that speeds up fuel and ammo pick ups.
I never really got into these games but really liked the Ace Combat games on PS2. Flying around missions with dramatic radio chatter and music was a real trip.
Gazillion is not a real unit of measure! (it's a jeep!) **Cough cough* - sorry, that just slipped out there. Thanks for the video =) this is an enjoyable review.
Unrelated, but I was today years old when I found out there are quite a few Horce Racing games on SNES & (mostly) Super Fam.... like, what? SNESdrunk, would you ever do a video exploring this oddball genre in the future? 🤔
I had an idea for a new series for you that I’d like to learn more about. With the Analogue Pocket not supporting SNES save states or sleep mode and us aging SNES kids just not having as much time to play as we used to, I’d like to know which SNES games are best to play on the go or in short bursts. Games where saving or passwords can be accessed anywhere (or saving happens automatically between each level like in Yoshi’s Island) Or just games that can be played in short bursts like Bust-a-Move Anyway just an idea!
War stuff that stands out? Okay, I fully recommend talking about Pacific Theater of Operations (P.T.O.) series on the SNES. It has you able to play events from the Pacific theater in World War II making you choose the Japanese or Allies. You can go for a long-ass play and even change the course of the war. But man is the CPU cheap-ass bastards (they'll either rebuild the ships you've sunk into subs or carriers). That or they'll invent jet airplanes or better-built ships before you (unless you've already beat them to this all). But man is it fun. There's even a sequel for the SNES (released near the end of the system's reign) P.T.O. 2 where it expands the play map to including Australia, Central America, and South America) and includes tanks for the land battles. I just remember for this one submarines were the way to go.
Strike games were much better on Mega Drive/Genesis, though. But I know there's always a certain nostalgia towards the version one grew up, especially if there was no knowledge of a better version.
Fun fact - your dad would only play one of the games mentioned in the beguinning of this vid, one of the 'strike' titles and a golf/baseball/football one, on your snes
I flew for the Air Cav… the game doesn’t seem to take the fun out of flying. Thank you for saying Cavalry correctly. You have no idea how many in the Cav butcher that.
I'm waiting for the day when Drunk gets a game and just goes, "Is game x worth playing today? No. It sucks." and just ends the video in under 30 seconds.
Might be hubris, but I'm pretty sure the games I made; the Strike Series, kicked off the tons of military shooters during the 16-bit era... probably. 😂
Wow, what a horrible rendition of Richard Wagners awesome Walkürenritt! I assume they tried to go for some sort of Apocalypse Now vibe here... Anyway, great review as always, thanks!
I went to school with a kid named John Helicopter, he was an absolute wizard at games like this
Did.... did he have Helicopter parents?
Was he an Apache?
That's too dumb to laugh at, haha
@@sunderark Of course he did. His parents were named Herb and Susan.
Baby Huey?
I love the "Apocalypse Now" callback with the Ride of the Valkeries.
It's like the smell of napalm in the morning.
I don't usually retrogame anymore but still watch your reviews for their historical value and chill vibes
John Helicopter kicks my ass at this game every time on VS.
Always happy to see one of your drops. Short and to the point, covers all the relevant info and always entertaining.
“Just point and shoot” sounds like a very realistic military simulator
I'm not sure I want to have to oil and manually reload guns like in Red Dead Redemption all the time :P

Glad to see you covering these titles! I loved Super BattleTank on the SNES when I was a kid.
Co-op story mode? I will definitely give it a try "any way I can" Thank you Alex, great video!
When I was a kid back in the day the Strike series (Desert,Jungle,Soviet) was my go-to chopper game. This game looks fun though.

Those Strike-series games were a lot of fun.
