    It's called Greek foot because in ancient Greek aesthetics, feet with a longer second toe was the ideal. You can look at any sculptures from Ancient Greece, and they have 'Greek toes.' Or any statue made according to ancient Greek beauty ideals-the Statue of Liberty (gift from France) has Greek toes! As someone who has this and is trying to embrace it, I can say that it's way more common/less odd than people think; it's just that our tribe doesn't like to wear sandals.

    • @astrid2885
      @astrid2885 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      It has to do with the curved line around your feet. Second toe longer than first toe moves the highest point of the curved line to the inner side of the foot. Just look at sandals, aesthetically they seem beautiful, but if the point of the arch was right above the first toe (egyptian feet) the angle between the highest point and the rest of the toes is steeper and the eye depicts it as more aggressive. Greek sandals leave a calmer, more balanced feeling to our eyes and they are designed to match the outer curved line of greek feet because greeks were obsessed with everything structured leaving a balanced feeling to the viewer.

    I definitely have the Egyptian foot type. I can easily separate all the toes on my left foot but on the right foot the last two toes don't want to separate. My personality is a mixture of wanting stability and organization but also liking a little change and adventure. So I think this system is pretty accurate. This was s fun and interesting video!

    I have "Greek" feet as well, and all of my toes are quite long. I often say that my toes alone make up ⅓ of my shoe size! The most hilarious part is that I WAS a ballerina for most of my life! I started lessons at age four and had to stop at age 48 because of extensive spinal fusion surgery. I was able to find a brand of pointe shoe as they now take foot shape into consideration. I also volunteered my time (in college) to go to different local ballet studios to "analyze" the different students' feet before the studio owners ordered the "generic bulk" shoes. I know that having my shoes practically "sewn" around my feet and that perfect fit has saved me from the awful "bunion" operations that so many of my counterparts endured. I am most grateful for having had such a wonderful teacher in my early years up to age 18.
    By the way, I have so enjoyed your videos and especially got a kick out of this one!

      I have many insecurities with my Greek feet, but it seems more common than I thought.

    • @deborahcurtis1385
      @deborahcurtis1385 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have long toes too, and long fingers except Egyptian shape [edit: wait! scratch that.. my second toe is same length as first toe, so that is Roman]
      Being aware of the hazards of hitting your feet against the end of the shoe is key to avoiding bunions, and that can also happen if you have a shallow foot not properly gripped by the shoe so your foot slides forward.
      But you can also do exercises to correct this and minimise the bunion effect as well as be careful about your selection of shoes.
      Keeping the joints supple and flexible is also key. My personality is probably more Roman, I talk a lot when socialising and am quite gregarious and enthusiastic about things mostly...
      48 is a solid career as a ballet dancer. I wanted to be one but I'm too tall.

    But if you are considering designing shoes, please make sure to read up on how feet work and what they need space to do. To many people suffer from disfigured feet due to wearing shoes that don’t alow the foot to do it’s thing. We stand and walk on our feet al day, al our lives, so we al need healthy feet. I have an Egyptian foot, text book type and I am happily bragging that at 61, I still have the ability to spread my toe's (even though my right arch cramped a bit). Two fun facts; I trained as as dancer in both ballet and modern dance and I was aware that my foot was a classic Egyptian from one of my dear friends who's husband owned a shoe store for almost 40 years. Keep these vlogs coming, good stuff.

    I have Greek feet. Also known as Morton's. They're called Greek because most Greek sculptures especially those of athletes tend to have a longer second toe - as sculptors believed feet looked more beautiful like that. The strange thing is that the majority of people with so called Greek feet have not just a longer second toe but a second metatarsal which is longer than the first, which leads to a problem with balance, and a natural tendency to turn the feet out to counterbalance. Plus very quick buildup of hard skin under the ball and on the outside of the big toe. In other words if those Greek athletes really had those feet they would never have been champions 🙄😂.

    I have a Greek foot, with a high arch, and don't have any problem buying shoes. I love sandals. Occasionally I wear a comfortable heel or wedges. The thing I need to look for when buying heels is not so much the foot type but whether the arch is high, or this particular shoes are for flat footed people. Personality wise, not really: I am only moderately creative as I don't have to work and have time, but not at all motivated (especially when I worked).

    I have Egyptian feet. I can only separate my pinky toes and my big toes, the middle three all stay resolutely glommed together. I can also pick things up off the ground with my feet because I have a lot of space in between my big toe and the second toe. I would say I do have a introverted, thoughtful personality, but also everybody on my dads side of the family has the same shape of feet, and I just take after that side. funnily enough we are very German in terms of ancestry.

    • @marinakoch3791
      @marinakoch3791 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Picking up things with your feet? - I know exactly what you're talking about, though in my case that space comes from my mother's side 🤓
      But trying to find shoes (I actually like to walk in) as a woman with rather large and (especially in the front) also quite broad, Greek feet is really frustrating... 😕

  • @lorettaclark243

    Hi Justine! An incidental fact about the Greek or Roman foot I learned is that it refers to the shape of the feet in their sculptures. So the famous greek sculptures featured a Greek foot, and also the Roman. Don't know about the others. I have the long middle toe and also an extremely short baby toe. (Dare I show them in public?!). P S. SO MUCH more comfortable in sandals.

    Mine don't seem to quite fit any category (somewhere between a Roman, Greek and Egyptian) My big toe and second toe are very similar in length (cannot decide which is longer) and then tapper, but at the base the gap between the big toe and second toe starts slightly lower then the gap (by gap I mean when the toes start) between the second and third toe. Idk but thinking probably most Egyptian and that description fits me decently. And cannot split second and third toe!

      Maybe, but I have this weird thing where I will avoid showing the sides of my feet or my toes whenever possible. Sides of my feet is just because I have wide feet and if, say I'm wearing sandals, the sides of my feet spill over unless I'm wearing size 10, which is a full size too big. My toes, I don't even know why, I guess they just look off, but I don't know how, even though I have Egyptian feet.

    Egyptian. I heard about the toe separation thing about 4 years ago when I was in physical therapy pretty funny. Zero ability to separate toes. Started working on it and can somewhat now but it would appear Pinky and its neighbor give away my obsession for organization.
