Bless them they were great and made 18,000,000 Britons smile and laugh every week. Arthur Lowe was 56 , Eric Morecombe 45 and Ernie Wise 46 when this was recorded. People seemed and looked older in those days.
Well said, I agree 100%. Mr Lowe even does the about-turn like Eric! AL's physical comedy is superb, the way he kisses his hand instead of hers and is tossed around by the 'lady who comes down at the end of the show' is masterly, a pleasure to watch.
Arthur Lowe fits in so we’ll with these 2. Three comedy legends 2gether. Best gag is ‘do u think that’s wise’ answer ‘No, that’s Morecambe’. Perfect use of a Dad’s Army catch phrase.
Even though this is almost 20 years before I was born, I absolutely love Morecambe & Wise!! I just wish I had the chance to see them live x RIP Eric, Ernie and of course Arthur Lowe too!
My word don't they look smart in those suits! I love the cut and colour and same. (my favourite line is 'my mother has kind of gone off me lately Funny that)
There are some of 'The Morecambe and Wise' shows being played on GOLD Sky TV around the 25th Nov.. Here in the UK.. Catch 'em if ya can, I shall be watching and belly-laughing.. Can't wait.. Best regardsa and wishes from Wales .. :0)x
Interesting that Arthur Lowe says that if the lady isn't in the show he doesn't want to be either. It was said that his actress wife, Joan, wanted to be in shows he was in and he turned down many a job because she couldn't have a part.
Arthur, Eric and Ernie are three of the finest comic actors of the last century. Arthur and Eric were similar in a number of ways, both died doing what they loved. It's also brilliant how all three are playing the same character in three different ways. They are all playing the fool but Eric is eccentric, Arthur is pompous and Ernie is completely naive. Truly the best.
@canaryspike Thanks for your response. I did'nt know any of the Dad's army cast personally, though a recent BBC documentary certainly gave the impression that he was'nt popular. I recently bought the 2009 edition of Bill Pertwee's book (Making Of A Television Legend) which I highly recommend. The book is certainly much kinder to Arthur Lowe than the televised documentary.
This is brilliant! I love the friendly warm atmosphere that this, like every other Morecambe and Wise piece, has! One question for an ignorant fan, who is the lady who comes down at the end of the show? x
It would be great to dedicate this to the lovely Janet Webb (1930-1983). Many thanks for posting it. Arthur Lowe was undoubtedly a good comic actor, but it seems he became somewhat disliked among those who worked with him on Dad's Army.
Haha absolutely not. I'm pretty sure this was broadcast live (don't quote me on that) so it would've been hilarious if he broke them. He recovered well though. :p

Yeah, I would've guessed Arthur was about 65, Eric and Ernie late 40's very early 50's. The old fashioned suits don't help of course.
Baldness always adds around 10 years.
One of my fondness memories is watching M&W with my Grandmother we laughed so much.
3 brilliant people, I miss them all
I'd say four . . . Janet Webb judges everything perfectly here . . .

I totally forgot the lady at the end!!!!!! Thank you for posting! In my autumn, thinking of spring!
Thank you very much, I shall definitely be on the lookout for those shows!! :) Love and Wishes from England!

Two classic comedians and ernie wise . .🤪😜🤓
Brilliant. I had completely forgotten about this one. Thanks for sharing!

I'm old enough to remember Arthur Lowe as Mr Swindley in Coronation Street.
promerops yes! I had forgotten that!
I didnt kno it was Arthur Lowe wife. She looks beautiful and elegant. God bless them both!
Brill! Three very funny and talented people!, sadly the likes we'll never see again!.
"please give a reasonably warm welcome" hahaha -- that tickled me all day!
OMG Kenny Ball , my family then we’re great fans of Kenny Ball and his jazz band .
"Oh what an easy day for me" - says it all from the master that is Eric Morecambe!
yes, this is series 5, episode 2 :D I love how Eric, Ernie and Arthur all make each other laugh; you just want to step into the screen and join them
lol my faves..i loved them!!
My word don't they look smart in those suits! I love the cut and colour and same. (my favourite line is 'my mother has kind of gone off me lately Funny that)
They are among the best
Superb!
legends and funny always 👏👏✌️

Thanks.
Arthur Lowe legend
'you can rest insured' and they cracked up! Oh what magic they made.
There was a part for her on Eric’s play “Mutiny on the bounty” as the ‘figure head’
A fun type of show

Dad's Army.... Great too

Leonard Rossiter as well when they moved to Thames
❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️

It's Arthur Lowes wife the guy in the middle in black..... 9 years later.... Better late than ever. 😉😊👌👍
It was Janet Webb actress & singer. She originally worked with them in this 60s show Two of a Kind
PS this was a show biz inside joke parody on George Formby’s wife who used 2 come onstage & take bows at end of show & no one knew who she was
@@janmcdonald3896I didn’t know that. Thanks.

Is that the lady that played the role of Mrs. Fox in Dad's Army? She looks awfully like her; quite similar in voice and in appearance.
Nope. Mrs. Fox was played by Pamela Cundell & the M&W 'Diva' was played by Janet Webb.
Remember them matching shirt and ties
With a black fedora Arthur could have been a Blues Brother!!
I dont think the bit when he dropped his glasses was planned
Haha absolutely not. I'm pretty sure this was broadcast live (don't quote me on that) so it would've been hilarious if he broke them. He recovered well though. :p
Captain Mainwaring and Mrs Fox :)
Was that really her? Mrs Fox?
Yes, this'll be series 5 or 6 :)
Nice shirt and tie. Where can I buy one?
not often you see Eric Morecambe upstaged, but from 4 minutes in ernie and arthur work so well together eric may as well not be there!
+Mropinions100 Ernie is amazing.
I feel that if you didn't like Ernie, you didn't understand the joke. He was just as much of an idiot as Eric and has some hilarious moments.
@BritishAlienCompany The lady is the lovely voluptuous Janet Webb
What was her name?
What dressing room is she in, Eric? 4, 5 & 6 as usual 🤣
Any branch of Dunn and Co., I reckon !
Is this in the bbc Morecambe and wise collection ?
Wonder what happened to all those great suits 🤔.
ERIC and earnie, earnie was the smaller half of the best comic duo ever and thats almost half of them. nice out int it, .............
'Earnie'? Must be short for 'Earnest'.
Mrs Fox?
All i hear is George Mainwaring
is that ALL she says?!
lol do you think that wise
looks like she was poured into that dress..and forget to say 'when'.
Normal? His character was pompous & self-important, egocentric and vain! :o)
M & W are supposed to be "funny" ? !!!
he was a alcoholic
Never liked Ernie ... he was too normal
