Obviously the focus is always on Rachel and her dynamic, powerhouse vocals, and rightfully so. But for me, Bridget is the soul of the group, fantastic songwriter, incredible bass player, and she just overall gives LSD a very cool vibe. Saw them live for the first time this past May and haven't been able to listen to much else since, damn they are just so good.
I told her she rocks the side pony, yet only as a way to pitch a custom acoustic bass with the tuners down in the tail piece where they would not snarl the long hair. Then ( as all my stories end) "gang stalkers" came toend mylife with extreme prejudice, now no one calls me ever. I WAS once a great kisser, for a Luthier.
I saw them on the Bad Self Portraits tour and I fully expected to be entranced by Rachel the whole time but wound up watching Bridget and Mike the whole show. The grooves are so good
rob slover Agreed. I LOVE Bridget! There's a video of her playing the guitar intro to Sweet Child of Mine out there (FB maybe). It's really badass m.facebook.com/pg/lakestreetdive/videos/?ref=page_internal&mt_nav=1
They are genre masters. They are also quite good at disco, as "Call of Your Dogs" shows. If you want one of the most Beatlesque songs of the last few decades on the instrumentation, check out "Rental Love" at the end of their "Bad Self Portraits" album. George Harrison would approve.
Sister Rachel loses her monitor earpiece at 3:10, and still nails every note in that big gospel-tent bluesy ending. What a powerhouse contralto, an amazing voice...
Not detracting from her amazing talent, but I believe she took it out intentionally, it's sometimes easier for musicians to hear / stay in tune without one monitor in
They just popped into an automated playlist for me yesterday. Never heard of them before. Seems rarer and rarer to discover gems like this. Was a good day for me.
drumming is solid, the organ? classic tone, the guitarist/trumpeteer? decent riffs, the bass? Godly (are you kidding me?), the harmony? angelic, the voice? Heavenly.
I heard her for the first time yesterday at Walmart (Good Kisser) and it stopped me in my tracks moving me to tears plus happiness wandering the aisle. Yes, she is THAT good and the musicians accompaniment perfectly fit totally provoking my response. WOW!
LSD are so much more than the sum of their parts. Saw them live in DC in 2018, outstanding show to support this album. 6000 devoted and knowledgeable fans that mostly stood the whole show. They not only are very sharp live, but they do what any good band should be able to: embellish and extend the recorded version of the song, something they also do in the many local radio studio and live versions of dozens of songs in their catalog that can be streamed. Finally, they are SO good at the little riffs and filegree bits that giver depth to a song, not just Rachel's vocals, but everyone, and they play with them from version to version. Their harmony vocals are extremely tight and have power. They do creditable and interesting and sometimes funny covers of other's songs--their streetside version of "I Want You Back" was what got them first noticed outside of Boston. There are a dozen little flourishes in every song that make it a better performance, and many of them move in directions that are not expected. I love this band and they are helping me get through 2016-2020 without completely losing my mind.
Their mixing is always top notch. I saw them at a folk festival at an outdoor stage and somehow it was like, studio quality in terms of balance and clarity. I'm sure the band members have a hand in it, but shout out to the sound tech as well, whoever it is.
I guess the bottom line…Is that this is a beautiful confluence of energy from so many talented people toward positivism of a future we all hope is possible. Let’s make sure we act on that! ✌️
Yeah so the group was founded in Massachusetts at the New England Conservatory and is currently based out of Brooklyn. The band got its name from a street with many dive bars in Minnesota, in a hometown to the trumpet/guitar player. Of the original members:Rachel Price (lead vocals) was born in Tennessee. Bridget Kearney (bass) was born in Iowa. Mike “McDuck” Olson (guitar/trumpet) was born (I think) in Sweden but grew up in Minnesota. Mike Calabrese (drums) was born in the New England area...I’m actually not sure where he’s from. But I do know for certain...they have no affiliation with Chicago...
Quick note: pretty sure Rachel was born in Australia and was RAISED in Tennessee. Source? Me. Her family and mine are long-time friends. I actually watched her grow up and I'm almost certain that she was a toddler when the Price family moved to Hendersonville (town where we grew up).
When I first found them I ripped the audio of a performance of theirs and made my own cover art and put Lake Street Dive on it. It’s still like that in my phone 😂
I LOVE a band that could have been huge in the 60's - 1960's, 1860's, 1760's... but that's about as far back as their instrumentation goes. She ought to give lessons if she is so good, yet these days there is little time for good kissing and men just "grab" what the can.
Give their other music a chance. Each member writes songs for the band and they all have different writing styles, so they have so many different sounding songs.
Not a big fan of the keyboard, l think they were better without it. Sounds too much like mainstream pop and overpowers everything else especially the bass which is normally easy to hear and great.

Love these band members!!!! I don’t get excited too often but Rachel caught me and now I love them all.
upright bass player = instant badass.
rob slover

Definitely, Bridget is amazing.
Badass Bridget, say no more.
Can't spell "badass" without bass 😉
Wow her voice is amazing. That Les Paul sounds niiiiiice too.
i disagree i dont think hes very good
This is real soul music. You can feel it in your bones.
I would have love to have heard a duet between Rachael Price and the late Sharon Jones.
They are genre masters. They are also quite good at disco, as "Call of Your Dogs" shows. If you want one of the most Beatlesque songs of the last few decades on the instrumentation, check out "Rental Love" at the end of their "Bad Self Portraits" album. George Harrison would approve.

Yes, if the floor monitor and room are giving good feedback, I have heard the vocalists will do just that.
They just popped into an automated playlist for me yesterday. Never heard of them before. Seems rarer and rarer to discover gems like this. Was a good day for me.
My favorite band on my favorite late night show! 🤗
they have no flaws, this band is PERFECTION!
drumming is solid, the organ? classic tone, the guitarist/trumpeteer? decent riffs, the bass? Godly (are you kidding me?), the harmony? angelic, the voice? Heavenly.
Rachael Price's voice is godly.
She's a goddess.
I heard her for the first time yesterday at Walmart (Good Kisser) and it stopped me in my tracks moving me to tears plus happiness wandering the aisle. Yes, she is THAT good and the musicians accompaniment perfectly fit totally provoking my response. WOW!
One of my favorite bands! Great seeing the on The Late Show!
They are all so TALENTED! Each of them! Absolutely talented! It’s such a shame not many people know about them...we HAVE to get the word out
her voice is so incredible WOW
Awesome band!!! Thanks for having them on the show!!!!
The little top with the fringe on the surrey.
So glad she is so good.

WOW. they are really really good! Instant fan!
Amazing musicians in this band! Love them!
Love these guys. Found them on the report 4 years ago, and still a huge fan.
Todd Grady same! So happy Colbert show discovered this band, seen them live and they are fantastic!
Me too!
Same here. Seeing them on the Report blew my MIND. Been a fan ever since.
I love this group! Boston represents!
Very Nice. Loving this new album, Rachael Price has a voice that more people need to hear.
just discovered this band, sorry i’m late to the party but damn!
i love them
Can't get enough of your sound...
They just get better and better....
I'm so glad there is a band around this so awesome badass bass player 😜👍
Can we take a minute to admire Bridget's awesome earrings?!
Great performance folks
I will tell them that you are a good kisser--and a good singer, too!
So glad they are getting recognition
Great band!! I’ve been aware of them for about ten years. 💗🎧
Love this song
This deserves more views. Love this group.
YASSSSSSSS, I SAW THEM IN SEATTLE!!!
Such a well mic'd and eq'd tambourine track. Killer crispy high end tambo. #freethetambourineup
Might want to throw some kudos at the sound guy... just sayin!
lol who is playing the tambo?? Cutting through the mix like a knife thru buttah!!
ha thats so specific im guessing you play percussion? haha
Joe DeFranceschi someone in the house band? I don't think it's Mike C.
Their mixing is always top notch. I saw them at a folk festival at an outdoor stage and somehow it was like, studio quality in terms of balance and clarity. I'm sure the band members have a hand in it, but shout out to the sound tech as well, whoever it is.
So god damn good
Love this!! I hear alittle Bonnie Raitt in her voice💓
always fire, Saw them at Danforth Music Hall.
Such a talented band all around everyone’s no weak spots here
The way Rachael is vibing with the song is exactly how I feel about it
Happy Mother’s Day
always excited to see them back on your show!
Oh my, this is just fabulous!
I LOVVVE Lake Street Dive!
I saw these guys couple months ago opening for Jack Johnson. She has a lot of stage presence. New CD is nice. Side pony was a little better IMO
The Green Dragonzord whaaaatt??!! JJ & LSD in one show?!! daammnnn....
Side Pony has aged pretty well, hopefully free yourself up will too
Damn. This, is, amazing... WOW
I'm so glad that you all are making the star cird
I guess the bottom line…Is that this is a beautiful confluence of energy from so many talented people toward positivism of a future we all hope is possible. Let’s make sure we act on that! ✌️
Great band !!!!
Wow amazing voice

"Based out of Brooklyn"? I don't think that's accurate - they rarely play here.
It’s accurate; I’ve been following them for years. Plus their bio says it.
Quick note: pretty sure Rachel was born in Australia and was RAISED in Tennessee. Source? Me. Her family and mine are long-time friends. I actually watched her grow up and I'm almost certain that she was a toddler when the Price family moved to Hendersonville (town where we grew up).
Yep, born in Perth, Australia. Good to know.
Well, they could play in New York more often, then. Rarely do I see them playing in Brooklyn.
Summer 2018
WOW! Just wow.....
Great live performance
Wow! They are really good! I wonder if they know Arleigh Kincheloe and Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds?
Great band!
I have to correct myself alot always want to call them Lake Street Drive instead of Lake Street Dive
I always want to say Lake Street Diva!
#metoo
When I first found them I ripped the audio of a performance of theirs and made my own cover art and put Lake Street Dive on it. It’s still like that in my phone 😂
Right with ya!! Saying it wrong the whole time, but I had the name of the song right!! Love it!!
LOVE LSD.......BEST TRIP EVER
This band can do no wrong
YES
Loved it
I didn’t know they made Colbert! 😀
Rachel Rachel ❤️❤️❤️
You'd think a fan of hers would know how to spell her name.
❤️❤️❤️
Was expecting Usher but wasn’t disappointed by results lol
I love Lake Street Dive but the keyboards are swamping Bridget's brilliant bass playing. They used to have much a much cleaner, crisper sound.
Rachael Price should change her name to Rachael Pipes. I could listen to her sing all day and all night....forever.
I think they're from Boston, not Chicago...
Hannah Packman they are!
NO NEED to tell anyone - it is written all over her face!
I ain't tellin' nobody nuthin' Rachael until I find out for myself! ;-)
cool
Should hear that young lady sing this song from the foxes and the fossils. She makes the song sound good.
Chase at F&F did a nice job with their cover, but, please, let's not kid ourselves.
Chase is really good but nowhere as good as Rachel on this song.
I LOVE a band that could have been huge in the 60's - 1960's, 1860's, 1760's... but that's about as far back as their instrumentation goes.
She ought to give lessons if she is so good, yet these days there is little time for good kissing and men just "grab" what the can.
Saw them live the day before this. They look exhausted; should have taken a day off. Still good though.
I wonder why she took her earpiece out? Is there a reason a musician wouldn't want it in anymore?
Maybe the balance of the instruments wasn't good in the in-ear monitor and she wanted to hear more of the room sound or maybe it was an accident.
Sometimes it helps to hear how your vocals are coming through the house
I'm not convinced she's a good kisser. Must conduct further experimental research.
songwriting? jeez...im a rock star The best there never was!
That's an impressive, powerful voice the singer has. I'm not so keen on the song though.
Rob Ashton this is their 3rd album. Lots of great songs to check out!
I agree. I love the band, but this is my least favorite song on the album.
Laura R It’s actually their fourth they had a self-titled album that was released really early on but actually has some good songs!
Give their other music a chance. Each member writes songs for the band and they all have different writing styles, so they have so many different sounding songs.
The lyrics are amazing. Reminder of that waste of time relationship
Rachel is one of the best singers out there, but hell, her dancing is of "Elaine" level...congrats on the baby!
other full song bunch own commitment boot bomb experimental.
Did you have a stroke?
this guy gets it.
Amazing voice!! Not a fan of the song though...
This song has grown on me, now I love it
Not a big fan of the keyboard, l think they were better without it. Sounds too much like mainstream pop and overpowers everything else especially the bass which is normally easy to hear and great.
Great performance, but it seems every live track I see, the guitar player makes some kind of mistake. I guess you could just call it jazz lol
I don't get them/her. Most bands on colbert are instantly forgettable. I remember this...bc i don't care for it that much.
good band, horrible song.
Lol what rubbish.
Stephen Walker go listen to Nickelback
Jared O Lantern lmao
Says the guy with LIERALLY just CLOWN VIDEOS on his channel.
