    Congratulations you’ve just witnessed the best female rock voice ever! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
    I’ve loved her for ages!
    She said in a podcast interview that Robert Plant came up to her backstage and said “well done, I don’t usually like people doing stairway cos they usually butcher it but you did alright!”
    She said it was such an honour!! 💖

    Heart is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame..They have many songs..Ann was 62 here and she and her sister are still performing..Songs of theirs are "Barracuda", "Crazy On You", "Magic Man", "Straight On", "Alone", "Dog and Butterfly", "Never", "Who Will You Run To", "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You" among many others..They cover a lot of Led Zeppelin songs in their concert...They have been around since the early 70's..Also they do an amazing cover of "The Battle Of Evermore"..

    The drummer was Jason Bonham, the son of Led Zeppelin's drummer, the late John Bonham. This performance led to Jason Bonham touring with Heart where his band opened then he joined Heart onstage for a 30 min Zeppelin encore at the end of the night.

    Ann and Nancy Wilson are sisters and rock and roll legends. They’re in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their band Heart has along history, beginning in the early 70’s. You might want to check out their music. Magic Man, Barracuda, Crazy on You, Alone, to name a few. Ann was 62 and Nancy 58 when they performed this and Jason Bonham, son of Led Zeppelin’s original drummer John specifically requested they perform with him.

    This performance of Stairway To Heaven is almost ethereal, yet retains the essence of the song. Heart, featuring Ann Wilson (singer) and her sister Nancy Wilson (guitar) have a long resume of great hits. Worth looking into.

    To me- Ann is the greatest female rock vocalist- she can growl and belt with the best. Beautiful tone and diction. Check the Wilson sisters and their band Heart doing Barracuda.

    Heart was the pioneer female rock band in the 70’s. They have many huge hits and Jason Bonham only agreed to do this tribute to his dad if Heart sang. I heard Anne say I an interview that the whole group only had about an hour to rehearse together before the show.

    I know exactly what you mean.. when you realise you are witnessing greatness, it is awe inspiring and invokes strong emotional response.. What a set of pipes on Ann 😱 and at 62yo.. you can really hear the maturity and depth in her voice in that it is, in a word, "Seasoned" 🤷.. absolutely sensational.. the perfect choice to tribute, arguably the greatest rock song of all time by the greatest rockers of all time.. the reaction on the old boys faces say it all!! 🤘🤘

    I think I have watched every reaction video there is out there to this performance and for me this one is the best. You are spot on with the feeling this generates in you as a viewer of it. You can see how emotional Robert Plant is and how happy JPJ and Jimmy are with the performance, not to mention how Jason Bonham clearly felt getting to honor his late father. It also made me tear up listening to this for the first time so thank you for sharing your honest emotions on how it made you feel.
    Kudos to you mate 👍

  • @jollymolly2521
    @jollymolly2521 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Dude...this isn't even the full performance of the song. This the the edited tv version. There's another version that's over 7 minutes and has 1 additional verse - and the sound quality of Ann Wilson's voice is much clearer. And if you think she killed this one - you should check out old Heart videos of them doing Black Dog, Kashmir and Rock and Roll (this one is from the late '70s when they were young). If your mind is blown - just think about this - Ann Wilson was 62 when she blew the roof of the Kennedy Center. In 2012 Heart had been covering Led Zeppelin longer than they were even together - and Ann WIlson sings better than 99% of the men who've tried their hand at out-Planting Robert Plant. Also, for the record, they'd known Zeppelin since the '70s and John Paul Jones produced an album for them in the late '90s\early 2000s so he was not the least bit surprised that they killed it.

    • @irenedownie6559

    I saw Ann Wilson last summer do a show - she is 72 and just as POWERFUL as she has always been. Writing more music and still recording. A dream come true to hear her live.
    This tribute to Led Zeppelin will go down as one of the best - if not THE best - Kennedy Center Honors performances of all time. I get chills every time I hear it!

    I'm so glad you mentioned it, i thought it was only me that this happened to. This cover no matter how many times I hear it still brings tears to my eyes just because of how good it is especially when that second choir come in after the guitar solo.

  • @danielrausch
    @danielrausch ปีที่แล้ว +3

    No need to apologize for choking up. They are called tears of joy. They come when you realize you are witnessing something so special that there are rarely words to describe it. I only discovered this performance recently even though it happened over a decade ago. Since then, I have watched a couple dozen reaction videos and I tear up every time. Especially when the entire choir is exposed and you see how it affects the original band members. It is that special. Hats off to all the performers and production staff for creating this masterpiece. Thank you for sharing your reaction.

    Heart started out as a Zeppelin cover band way back in the 70s, and Ann Wilson was constantly compared to Plant because she had many of his mannerisms. In th US Heart was nicknamed "Little Led Zeppelin" (which they didn't care for) and by some as "Led Zeppelin with t*ts (which they really didn't care for). After this performance Jimmy Page gave his blessing to them covering anything in the Zep catalog (Heart is known for doing Zep covers in their shows to this day). Ann is a killer great singer.

I agree - Stairway isn't a particularly emotional song, but it is an excellent song and this tribute perfected and amplified all the best things about it. It's sonic beauty. This is my first time watching one of your videos. I had the same reaction when I watched this when it originally aired. I was as emotional as you were. First of all, to be included in the Kennedy Center Honors is what I consider to be the most prestigious because the program honors the best of the best in all of the arts, not just music or theater or literature, etc. Second, to have such talented artists perform your music before you is a great tribute and the Wilson sisters are amazing. Third, to have the late John Bonham's son perform with the band was such a cool thing. If you can, please watch the annual Kennedy Center Honors. You will NOT be disappointed!

I have seen this video several dozen times and I always show this video to fans of Zeppelin and this iconic song. The Chorus can only be described as magical, and this video will always be one of my favorites. I just wish you watched the video straight through... I think pausing the video takes away forward energy from both you and your viewers. I watch many reaction videos and the pauses are distracting; short comments throughout the video with maybe a more detailed discussion at the end I believe is always best! Great Job!

    I know this reaction has been up for a minute, but I was just going through some of you content after discovering you through some Ren videos, where I put some respect on your name for such great commentary and points of view, after watching this I see it wasn't just a fluke, your consistency is stellar! I've only seen one or two other reactors that were moved to tears, as was I, the first time I saw this performance, it's so nice to watch someone who really understands the gravity surrounding just how meaningful and beautiful this performance was. I quit telling the following story on reactions to this video because some hater called bullshit on it, and for the life of me I can't seem to find any trace of it on the internet, but I know what I read, and I know Ann wouldn't make up a story like this. So with you talking about the emotion, pressure and pure testicular fortitude it would take to perform in front of not only Rock Royalty, but a band who the artist performing greatly admires and influenced their own career, I thought I'd dust it off and bring it back one more time since I know you'd truly appreciate it.
    I've been a fairly big fan of Heart for quite some time, years after this performance, which was in 2012, I stumbled on a transcript online, of an interview Ann Wilson (vocalist) did with some morning radio show in the months following this performance, I'm not sure if she was still doing PR for Hearts 7th album "Fanatic" that got released around that time or some solo project, but the radio DJ asked Ann how her nerves were before, during and after performing in front of her heroes, and she said the following (paraphrasing of course)........
    Well I was a little nervous before hand, and it was freezing in that theatre, and why I had that big furry looking coat on, once I started singing my nerves went away, but afterwards they flared back up again, especially since I've heard over the years that Robert isn't particularly fond of different covers of their songs. So Nancy and I are at the dinner party they had afterward for all the guests, and was very appreciative of all the wonderful compliments I got from so many great people, but I was honestly only worried about one thing, what did the guys think, especially Robert. So just before the main course, I see Robert coming over to our table, and I get really nervous, he politely greets or nods his head at everyone at the table, then briefly glances at me, then his gaze starts to drift upward as if he was daydreaming, he says "I've always thought that song to be quite dreadful". I thought well, I screwed the pooch, and my eyes started to tear up thinking I let one of the biggest influences in my life down. But then he snaps out of his daydream and sees my crocodile tears, and realized I mistook his words, and said..."NO NO...I simply mean so many people have covered that song over the years, and it's always been dreadful to hear......until tonight". Then he took my hand and kissed it, and said "Bravo dear, well done", and just walked off. I knew right then and there I could die a happy woman with no regrets!!.
    When I get back on my feet and my pension is not tied up in govt. red tape any longer, I'm joining your Patron straight away, again, great reaction, and thank you for sharing your true emotions with us!! ✌️💚

      I've been truly touched by your comments. Especially this one. How special. This performance was such a treat and you could see how much it meant to the guys. I'm always so moved for artists either when a massive crowd sings their sing back to them or when someone amazing covers their song well. What an incredible feeling that must be. And one so few of us will ever get to experience.

      @@TheCharlieSmithChannel ...One more quick thing, just watched your reaction to Etta James, I'm sure this never happens, but if you're ever low on requests before I join Patron, Check out Beth & Joe (Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa), live in Amsterdam - "I'd Rather Go Blind", if you've never seed it before. It's in my top 5 for all time best live performances I've ever seen, along with the above video. Beth has been described as what would happen if Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and Mick Jagger had a love child, and when Joe was 15, BB King used to sneak him in the back door of Blues bars to open sets for him, and his guitar solo in this performance alone almost made me weep!! Enjoy!

    It is not often you can see this kind of tribute that really does justice to someone else’s incredible talent. It took nothing away from the original but showed it took an incredible amount of people to make it as special as just a few guys on stage that became icons.

    Ann Wilson of Heart is the greatest female hard rock singer ever. Not sure anyone else could have pulled his off.

    This version left out the most iconic line in the song, and part of the guitar solo. Find the full vetsion, you wont regret it.

    Robert Plant hated this song and hated covers of it, but he told Ann Wilson post show that this performance made him love his song again. Heart began as a Zeppelin cover band and Ann's voice is the only one who perfectly matches Roberts.

    That human beings can, on the one hand, be capable of terrible evil, while at the same time, be capable of such love and beauty, is timeless truth.
