There’s a lot more to this show then Al insulting women at his shoe store. This series was one of the funniest in that decade
Al doesn't sell many shoes. In one episode, there was dust all over the cash register. In another, he forgot how to ring up a customer. In another episode, the kids snuck into the shoe store before it opened to spy on Al. All he did all day long was sit in a chair with his head down in his hands. LOL! The owner is a woman named Gary, and for some reason she kept him. She had a lot of businesses, and the shoe store was the only one losing money.

The ...ahem.....larger women were actresses and were well compensated. Who wouldnt jump to appear on the top TV series at the time?!? The beautiful ones WERE Playboy Playmates and they had many famous people and sports legends on the show.

If I remember correct several of the ladies were comedians that came up the some of the jokes themselves.
Over hand bowling is something to see lol, They get kicked out fast lol.
I'm one of those people that have seen each episode 15-20 times at least.
Al Bundy takes the brunt of the insults and gets the most abuse. I think Peg is the very worst of the 4 Bundys, but I love her of course =) The Character "Kelly Bundy" might very well have been the hottest Rock and Roll chick on TV EVER

Al works at Gary's Women's Shoes and Accessories... Gary is, that's right, a woman.
And Gary get's the shoes from an illegal sweat shop. But she pays the underage kids who make the shoes more than she pay's Al. And they get a bowl of gruel!
And if you’re wondering how Al Bundy still has his job… it’s been mentioned offhand that he’d get a better “wage” from unemployment.
this show employed more large women during the late 80's and 90's then any other single shop out there. at least i cant think of a single show that had more large actresses on it full time, any one?
so complain all you want but they gave large women the chance to be on tv. not many shows would put a woman of +size during this time period
I think its more to the fact that absolutely no one else wants the job. And to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if owning that place was some insurance saving thing or tax umbrella scam or something. But ultimately the same women whom he insults on a daily basis are his only clientele and to say they are difficult customers is an understatement so no one else wants to do the job. He got job security by the fact he makes next to nothing and no one else wants to do it. When he got Griff as a co worker was a surprise and besides the fact he more of a ladies man the Al he just as rude to the big girls as Al is so not like replacing Al with Griff would do much

Here’s one I made up:
A fat woman crushinated her way into the store today! She looks around the store and asks how much every product is over and over again despite the prices being right in front of her! Eventually, I tell her that every item has a price right in front of it and she says to me, “Are you implying that I can’t read?” and I say, “No Ma’am! I’m sure you’re used to reading TAKE OUT MENUS!”

Looking back on it, I suspect that Al might work off commission if he makes so little money. If that's true and the owner (Gary, a woman strangely enough) doesn't have to pay very much to keep the store, she could just as well be holding the location of the store so that a competitor to one of the other stores Gary probably owns from moving in.
I don't get why women want shoes that don't fit. If they can't wear them, they're just trophies and the size doesn't matter, get the one that looks pretty. If you want to wear them, the size doesn't matter so long as you can put them on yourself.
The overhand bowling needs more perspective, Marcie arranged for her feminist group to go bowling that night and a lot of them are construction workers, loggers and such.
Al still has the job because it's a really shitty job that no one else wants.
I know it's harder to do reactions to full episodes because of copyright bullshit, but I always feel like these compilations don't do the show justice.
They just paint Al as a bully, where really everyone on the show is as cynical, brash, and self-serving as he is. I don't just mean the main cast, I mean _everyone in America,_ as depicted in this show.
