Hi my name is Danin and I like your videos I'm a big knife collector and gun collector I'm a country boy I live in Texas and proud of it and I just would like to say thank you for your hard work on these videos God bless you sir
In November I was out deer hunting and my rifle's magazine jammed. I was 250 miles from home, and even in the emergency kit in my truck theres nothing suitable to unjam it. If I hadn't had a swiss army knife on me I would've been completely screwed. Definitely the #1 tool, ever.
@tac94540, He told me, but I don't recall. It's whatever camillus used in their "Our Very Best" blades. I don't get as anal about the steel in various knives as a lot of people do. I'd almost rather have softer steel that is easier to sharpen than some of the steel people go crazy over that will supposedly cut through Kryptonite and then peel an apple. To me, that means I'm going to dread trying to sharpen it when it does need a new edge, which is usually sooner than advertised. :-)
RIght on, H-45! Seen a lot of your vids, just found this one by accident. I'm a "knife-guy" too. Picked up one of those Camillus OVB blades after ORIGINAL Camillus/NY went under and remaining stock was sold off. Those blades were of the original "Carbon V" steel, made by Camillus for A Certain well-known knife marketing company and I wish I had gotten a dozen... Handled mine in some nice solid Colorado elk antler, sharpened the edge and the somewhat abbreviated clip. Made a saddle-leather sheath and inlaid some turquoise into the "pommel" of the antler. Wearing it as I write, in fact. The end of production of C-V steel and the closing of Camillus/NY sent Lynn Thompson scrambling for new steels and new producers of his big knives... still scrambling at this time apparently after going thru several makers and several steels..
@tac94540 Indeed, as Hickok said, it's probably good old high carbon tool steel, which Camillus used quite a bit of. 0170-6, usually, otherwise known as 1095cv (Ka-Bar), Carbon V (Cold Steel--Camillus made lots of their knives), or Chrome Vanadium (Case). It really sucks that Schrade and Camillus are gone--two very historical American knife companies, and some of the few that still used non-stainless steel in some of their knives.
Beautiful knife, great sound from the new camera, and it looks like you're not sharing our snow and temps in the teens like up here in Indiana. Looked pretty pleasant out there to me. I went shooting 2 days ago with my new Glock 19 Gen 4 and it was 13 degrees. Thinkin about movin down your way. Always enjoy your vids, my wife does too. I collect knives so I'd enjoy more knife videos too, but it doesn't replace your shooting entertainment!
@shkotay , I don't think he has a website or email. He's in Mr. Juliet, Tn, somewhere. It's a small shop, just the guy and his wife. I'll see if I can find his card, but I don't know if I should post his phone # or not.
I have been looking for a bowie with PRECISELY this look to it :O Spill the beans Hickock45 :P Camillus Cutlery eh? How can I reach him to buy one? Does he have an email or just the address you posted? Found it on the web but i'd like exactly this model :D
I got a nice one I made out of an old, big file, darn fine blade it is. Comes in handy for everything from chopping kindling for the fire to doing heavy kitchen work. My favorite piece. I wish I could afford more than a pellet gun, but for now I'll have to do with the blades. Nice video as always Hickok.
I am "urbanized & citified" and I use my spyderco at least 5 times a day. We have something that rural Tennesseans don't see very often: MAIL. Yes, sometimes it requires a pocket knife to open - which are allowed by law in Chicago, at least. You should try visiting if you're not too scared to leave your piece at home! They aren't legal on your person yet.
I live near Camillus, NY. Camillus Cutlery went out of business in 2007 after more than 100 years in business. They made some of the the best quality knives in world, but Americans today would rather buy a $7 dollar knife at wal-mart every year instead of buying a $75 dollar knife once in a lifetime.
Yo Hickok.. If you would like to know a little more about this Bowie you bought i can help.... The First OVB Bowie came out in 2002 and was designed by Jerry Fisk...Mr Fisk also designed the 2003 Southwest OVB bowie.... In 2004 Camillus colaborated with knifemaker and cutting competition champion Jim Crowell.. Heavy 10" Blade and 15" overall..... Camillus went under before all the Crowell Bowies were completed and the Blades were sold at the bankruptcy auction...You and i have the Crowell Bowies
I have a Cold Steel Laredo that is a lot of fun. Your knife definitely looks cool. I also have a Kabar, Glock, Gerber II, Fairbanks-Applegaite, and a bayonet for my Garand. Most of mine came from Amazon.
keep them coming, please. Love the knives. Cold Steel Trail Master , The Tops "Armageddon and the Ontario RTAK-II, Love to see your review of these, also. Thanks for all the great and entertaining videos.
Hey hickok I have a marbles plainsman and want advice whether or not to buy more marbles stuff. Have any advice. (only bad thing is they are not made in America)
they used to use them knifes back spine grind to preserve the blades razor sharpness and they would chop with the back end and use the front end for self defense cause its always razor sharp
@TribTrekker , Good one. Sounds like maybe some Zen philosophy. I'll try to observe the same principle if I'm ever near a swimsuit model photo shoot; however, success is unlikely. :-)
@TheWill450 Cool, just discovered them recently, it's pretty cool that they are made so close to where I live. gonna get either the KD Hunter or the Explorer eventually.
@MrTotez It's so handy, one handed everything! and the garanty is simply amazing, you break it, you send it in, they sharpen it, change the blade and oil it before returning it to you
Aint it funny how if you own and love fine, rugged cutlery, sometimes even if you don't have a particular purpose, you still just need to draw that blade to admire, fondle, appreciate and smile over! But don't be surprised if one thing leads to another and you find an excuse to split some 6" Cottonwood with one chop! Busse baybeee!!!
That knife blade was made by the previous Camillus company. The current one is a new company and I doubt very much you will be able to get that quality of knife from them at this time. It was one of the OVB (Our Very Best) range and IIRC it was made from 0170-6 steel. AKA Carbon V as Camillus made Carbon V for Cold Steel.
Knife toss at the end is great and no edits. Six minutes worth of video and you could've messed it up at the end with that knife flip but you didn't because your hickok45.

There are few things in the world that feels as good as holding a really well made knife in your hand.
@MrJohnboy1911 , Yes, I have their Trailmaster, which is very much like this knife. I've used it for about 15 years.
love the ending. Really looks like you were having fun.
@theswimer419 , I'll get to each one eventually. I'll try to start working my way through them when the weather is decent.

@frankmo13, Spyderco Delica 4 usually.
ha ha ha ahhhh ha ha ha .....that was a great bit of improvisation.... love your stuff
hickok, keep up the great work.

nothing better than to wake up in the mornig and have a hickok45 vid with a cup of coffee

Oh man, that sound the knife makes on those branches! I love it.

That is one of the most beautiful knives I have ever seen.
Glorious.
I personally prefer my Machete, but a Bowie Knife is a close, close second.
@HungryGoth , Ha, Great MInds are always on the same track! Actually, we did this a week or two ago and just haven't gotten it up.
good looking blade!
Nice knife! I hope you are going to make more videos about your knifes.
Ever do any KA-BAR reviews? I like the classic USMC WW2 style. They are made about an hour down the road from me in Olean, NY.
you should make a vid of ALL of your guns, and or knives
@shkotay , I don't think he has a website or email. He's in Mr. Juliet, Tn, somewhere. It's a small shop, just the guy and his wife.

@michelthegreatable , I have twice that much land. I work for a living - always have.
Hey Mr. Hickok45, do you own any kukris? They're excellent choppers.
Great video as always, hickok45, sir! A beautiful Bowie knife indeed, my friend:)) Thanks for the post.

That is a good looking knife, and it’s super heavy duty.

@hickok45 spyderco rocks! the ending was badass!
I am "urbanized & citified" and I use my spyderco at least 5 times a day. We have something that rural Tennesseans don't see very often: MAIL. @7150285 , I think it might not be a good idea to shoot my way through a knife video? :-)
You sure showed them baby trees what fer! Get em Hickok!
My grandpa and dad worked at Camillus Cutlery. My grandpa found a blade there and it's a military style Bowie. It's pretty sick.

That one is quite beautiful. Do you have other large bowie or handy machete type knifes you carry for trail work?
"But Mick...He's got a knife!"......Now that's a knife!
I have a Cold Steel Laredo that is a lot of fun. Your knife definitely looks cool. I also have a Kabar, Glock, Gerber II, Fairbanks-Applegaite, and a bayonet for my Garand. Most of mine came from Amazon.
Hickok, have you ever heard of Fendley Knives out of LaGrange Kentucky? Heard they are really good.
Hey Hickok, what are your thought on Ka-Bar knives?, do you have any experience with these knives?
keep them coming, please. Love the knives. Cold Steel Trail Master , The Tops "Armageddon and the Ontario RTAK-II, Love to see your review of these, also.
Thanks for all the great and entertaining videos.
Bowies are nice, but for practicality how do feel about a kukri?
Hey hickok I have a marbles plainsman and want advice whether or not to buy more marbles stuff. Have any advice. (only bad thing is they are not made in America)
I am in love with my leatherman wave, handiest knife ever, what type of bring-everywhere knife do you carry?

they used to use them knifes back spine grind to preserve the blades razor sharpness and they would chop with the back end and use the front end for self defense cause its always razor sharp
You should check out the Natchez bowie from cold steel. By the way hickok my saiga 12 runs low brass walmart shells just fine.
Were you in boyscouts Hickock?
That knife toss at the end took guts. No way in hell I would be trying that. lol.
@TribTrekker , Good one. Sounds like maybe some Zen philosophy. I'll try to observe the same principle if I'm ever near a swimsuit model photo shoot; however, success is unlikely. :-)

Lol very nice ending.
Busse baybeee!!!

hickok is the boss!
@toprun95
I think it's pretty much universally agreed that without a doubt it'd be the GLOCK 19, 3rd Gen.
David Bowie would be proud.
Is this a full tang knife?
i keep hearing you talk about your students. what kind of class do you teach?
That knife blade was made by the previous Camillus company. The current one is a new company and I doubt very much you will be able to get that quality of knife from them at this time. Knife toss at the end is great and no edits. Six minutes worth of video and you could've messed it up at the end with that knife flip but you didn't because your hickok45.
