  • Meet Jui and Nirmalya Banerjee, our hosts at Porini Cheetah Camp based in Ol Kinyei Conservancy. The camp opened in June 2017 and like all the other Porini camps, it is a small-tented camp designed to maximize your wildlife experience. Ol Kinyei Conservancy is exclusive to Porini Camps and hosts just two exclusive non-seasonal camps which offer an extraordinary and intimate wildlife experience. The conservancy, which is part of the Maasai Mara ecosystem, is considered a hotspot of big cats, especially cheetahs seen regularly with cubs. A stay at Porini Camps directly pays to protect biodiversity and support community livelihoods.

I was blessed to be able to visit the Porini camp back in Dec 2022. One of the most amazing experiences I have had for travel. The food (while exceptionally British-influenced…soft dig there!) was amazing; More food than you can eat. Our driver and spotter, Jacob and Phillip, respectively, were outstanding. We literally were able to see, up close, every one of the famous fauna of Kenya (except the ratel/honey badger), and some more…..intimate and gruesome animal encounters….but that is hilarious life is.
I cannot promote this camp enough. John, our host, was fantastic. All of his staff were competent, kind, courteous and cool.
IF you want to do a safari? I can’t think of a better place to do it. We had hippos and elephants that woke us up outside our tent, at 3am…..25 feet from our bed, eating the trees and brush. Unbelievable.

      Excellent!
We had the most amazing safari there. Stayed in tent 6.
Food was outstanding, our driver and spotter are top notch, and the camp hosts (hey, Joseph!) were so wonderful.
I would recommend going in December/January - we saw baby animals of every type.

It’s so hard to describe. My Father and Mother in-law have been to multiple other safaris. While the migration period is cool, you really don’t get to see all of the baby animals we got in December. We were blessed to see baby giraffes, pumbas, lions, antelope, impalas, crocodiles, cheetahs, ostrich, elephants, hyenas, zebras, hippos, monkeys and apes, kingfishers, sea Eagles, etc. My wife adores baby animals, and we saw them all…..like….10 feet away, or closer. It was unreal. We saw a pride of lions eat a zebra. We saw a cheetah eat an antelope. We saw ostrich eggs on the slopes. We saw tiny warthogs running around with their tails up.
An absolutely fantastical journey. Side note - the “hippo bath” may be the worst smelling thing I have ever encountered. I mean, it was horrific! But you should still visit it! I believe it was on the other part of the conservatory, but Porini has access.
Lastly, we rarely saw any other people or caravans. Ol Kenyi is lightly traversed.
Only concern? Their lack of quality hot sauces during the meals!

Not sure who checks this video thread for Porini, but tell Phillip we miss him. He and Jacob made our trip absolutely amazing. Just phenomenal. Also, go Rift Valley! I hope your football team is good this year!

Who should we say wrote to us?

    • @j8k3d18
      @j8k3d18 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joy, Jaden and Jake.
Jacob and Phillip will know - we were the group that had the jackals take down a baby impala. I didn’t like seeing that, but they would know who we are.
Phillip just emailed my wife, Joy. Just tell them - they are amazing at their jobs. As I have said below, no better safari I could imagine.
Also - American football is WAY better than African and European football!

Is there hot water showers ?

Yes, we have hot safari showers at camp

      Yes indeed there are.
However, if you are worried about a “hot shower”, then you totally misunderstand the point of Porini Cheetah Camp. They pamper you, but the idea is to see Kenya and all the flora/fauna.
I stayed there for 4 days. It was absolutely amazing. Go there for the love of the land, not because they have hot showers and WiFi (which they do). You’d be missing the point.
