    On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
    If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

    Of course the Tomcat still has it! Those planes were made tough, so tough in fact that it could take twice the G loading that the Navy rated it for. The NATOPS G limit for the Tomcat was 7.33G, but according to Grumman test pilots it was a 13G aircraft. Makes you wonder what could have been had the Super Tomcat 21 (Grumman's proposal for a redesigned and improved F-14) actually made it into production instead of the Super Hornet.

    • @smittywjmj
      @smittywjmj ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's the case for a lot of planes, it's called an engineering margin. F-16s can pull 12+ and there's one instance of an F-15 pulling somewhere between 15-20 G briefly. The manual numbers are always just what the plane can sustain without needing a maintenance inspection, and the difference between that number and the actual number where the plane comes apart is the engineering margin.

    • @doc7000
      @doc7000 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@smittywjmj Another reason why a lower number is used is to extend the life of the airframe as well as some of the equipment onboard not being able to handle those Gs (like the F-14s inertia navigation system. Also for the airframes how many Gs they can handle is impacted by their weight at the time (closer to max takeoff vs empty weight).

The bombing capability with the lantirn, laser guided bombs, A-A Phoenix, aim-120-7, aim-9x (with mods) is just an overall great plane. Which is a shame. There were several proposals to refit the F-14's or build a new version of them. Fly by wire, glass cockpits, a massive AESA radar, the whole shebang. Apparently their kinetic performance would have been nearly unparalleled by any other 4.5 gen fighter. Agility to match nearly anything and plenty of speed with endless legs.

    I love how of all the technical accomplishments made in top gun maverick and how stellar the cinematography and story is, the most relevant to us is a 5 second scene of maverick splitting the throttle and creating an f-14 renaissance in DCS

    I have no experience with aircraft, or combat, and I certainly never knew enough to be a fan of any jets. That said watching stuff like this is threatening to make a tomcat fan of me yet lol. Great stuff, love the content

    You know, something that always hits me about DCS is the sound modeling. Especially the Tomcat seems to be fairly well perfect. Brings back fond memories from my childhood of sitting on the beach and listening to them rumble in and out of NAS Oceana.

    Snort used to beat F-15s all the time, but he cheated good by his own admission, he’d crush them in the one circle like you did the first fight but he could do it reliably

    • @marktisdale7935
      @marktisdale7935 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Klaus Klavier if you ain't cheating you aren't trying hard enough. Not to mention if you are in a fair fight your tactics suck.
