It’s delightful and fascinating watching the different chemistries that Matthew and his two most frequent leading ladies, Mayara and Yasmine Naghdi, cultivate with each other on stage. With Yasmine, the chemistry is very youthful, puppy-love, hormonal, a bit like Dawson and Joey from Dawson’s Creek. Which works well for fairy tale ballets like Romeo and Juliet and Sleeping Beauty. With Mayara, his actual main squeeze, the chemistry is more lived-in, mature, thoughtful. Two people who know each other so well that they can finish each other’s sentences. Their dancing brings to mind Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn or similar old school cinematic couples; you can almost hear the Mid-Atlantic accents and witty banter. But never without a depth and mutual vulnerability that few can equal.
Watched a rerun of Don X at the cinema last night. The whole performance was first rate. But sadly even though it was a recording we had to endure grovelling presenters. I lost track of the number of times we were told the monarch was present and the badly read idiot boards,(that’s why they are called that.). Please it is a recording we don’t need all that most of us have our own notes.
La producción de Acosta tiene algunos problemas como el epílogo añadido, que resta la efervescencia con que concluía el ballet. La escena de la taberna es TAN oscura que cuesta trabajo distinguir a los ejecutantes. Los gitanos no son tales, sino zíngaros y no es lo mismo en absoluto. El vestuario adolece de falta de color al igual que la escenografía. A Basilio y a Kitri aún les falta para desarrollar con soltura sus roles. Él tuvo sl menos tres fallos y su apariencia era la del príncipe Desiré, muy lejos del carácter de Basilio. Ella nunca fue una Kitri creíble y fue muy triste su caída. El cuerpo de baile, excelente. Sigo prefiriendo la versión de Baryshnikov, más vitalista y cómica y, desde luego, Baryshnikov también es mi Basilio favorito. Hasta ahora no ha sido superado.
