A tiny bit of context here: The Pet Shop Boys have been a hugely influential gay synth pop band since the 80's. This song was originally about growing up with the church's homophobia and hate. Tobias has expanded the meaning here, obviously, and the lyrics still fit perfectly. In fact, it's a pretty faithful cover of the original without many big changes - the biggest changes are replacing the synths with guitars and the drum machines with a live drummer. Tobias's voice even sounds kind of like a slightly rougher version of Neil Tennant, who is the Pet Shop Boys' vocalist and lead songwriter. The original of this song has also been hugely popular at goth club 80's nights for decades. It's a classic, and this cover is perfect.

“And this cover is perfect.” You are objectively correct. I saw PSB a year ago or so, and this song sat me down. This version expands its universe.

Highly recommend listening to Bible (Imperiet cover), from Popestar

Also Avalanche originally by Leonard Cohen is a bonus cover song on Prequelle. Hope you will do that one as well some day. Its more dark and more heavy than this one. :)

I second this! I didn't think anyone could make a Leonard Cohen song darker, and then I heard Nick Cave's cover of Avalanche. Then I didn't think anyone could do a darker cover of Leonard Cohen than Nick Cave. Until I heard the Ghost version.

I prefer Avalanche over It's a Sin, honestly.

@@danielpavlik7242 I hope you enjoy it! Nick Cave is such an amazing songwriter and performer. Can you imagine if he and Leonard Cohen had actually ever collaborated?

If you ever do Crucified, a cover from the If You Have Ghost EP, you should absolutely listen to the original by Army of Lovers first

I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not that you don't know the original xD It's an absolute classic, but it might be just an European thing

I remember this song and I'm from the US. I was a senior in college when it came out, dang I'm old, lol

Elder Gen Z here- west end girls is probably the song people in the US know over this one.

Tail end of Gen X and queer - this is the music of my people. You couldn't go to a gay bar in the late 80's/90's without hearing at least one Pet Shop Boys song. This one's a personal favourite.

I found this an inessential cover. Too close to the original and brings nothing new to the table. I covered this with a punkier sardonic vibe.
