    I'm happy for anyone out there that's loving their X100V. I'm in 100% agreement with Pierre's last sentiment though. You're not missing out if you have a camera in your hands and you're out there working your skills.
    I also get that a lot that swirls around the X100V hype is around the feels-which is great, but it's a luxury for many people. For those people who are wringing their hands and feeling that FOMO-you're good. Shoot with what you have, and go make awesome photos. ❤💪

    I have an x100v and it is by far my favourite camera. The images are beautiful, the process is fun, the camera is unobtrusive and it inspires me to take photos. I use it for 90% of my photography and wouldn't sell it for double, triple , quadruple its market value. It is my favourite.

      Agree. There are some UK photographers on TH-cam doing wonderful street photography with the X100V. It's very capable in the right hands, and for specific types of work. David Hobby and Zack Arias figured that out 12 years ago with the original X100.

    I bought the XE-4 a few months back because I couldn't find the 100V anywhere else. There's something about these rangefinder-style Fuji cameras that you can't describe in words. You have to try it out for yourself, and let me tell you, you will always want to pick it up.

  • @benjaminbjacobsen
    @benjaminbjacobsen ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For me it's about making photography fun when I'm not working with my camera. I shoot an a7riv for work and don't want to drag it around with me if I'm not getting paid. So a smaller camera is key for me for fun/daily shooting. Fujis are great because their color science and film simulations mean I can shoot JPEG and not process. For 5 years now it's been my a7riv or my phone. I'm diving back into small pocketable options so I have a "real camera" when I'm out and about. The X70/XF10 are another one to check out if you're going to look at the ricoh GRiii as well. Same lens basically but fuji's versions (slower AF, better battery life).

Perfect for “snapshot” style photography, which is why many street photographers have liked the GR line of cameras since the film days. I still like the physical dials and switches of my X100V, but the GR is still my favorite overall camera, since it fits the style of photography that I enjoy doing the most. It’s also small enough to fit easily in my jacket pocket.

    Ricoh GR II is an APS-C camera that fits in your pocket with your phone and keys. If you can live without a viewfinder (actually quite liberating in my opinion), it's equal to the X100V at less than half the price. The X100V isn't small enough to fit in a pocket and bring everywhere, so that kind of defeats the purpose of having a slim form factor.

      @@Nevpaurion7 They are definitely in the same class but with different target audiences in mind, both were made to be enthusiast compact cameras. I've both the x100v and a GRIII and if u want to talk about the 35mm lens opening up to F2, in low light the IBIS on the GR easily compensates the 1 extra stop of light the 35 mm F2 offers. Lens on that 28mm is also really sharp. That said, I'll always use my mirrorless FF setups in demanding situations.

    I’ve had all the X100 series including the V. It’s great, but I get just as much enjoyment out of my X-T30 with the 23 f/2. Worse viewfinder, no leaf shutter, but better focus. Either way it is great to have a daily fun camera to use. I keep my X-T30/23mm the same usually, so I don’t have to worry about what lens to use. I got a little Samsung point and shoot for $25 that truly fits in a pocket. It's not spectacular, but it gets me out taking pictures, and it doesn't do too bad with a 16 mp sensor and a decent LCD screen. I take it out and use it more to test photos before breaking out a film camera or the Sony a7ii (or Olympus or Canon). I enjoy having a variety of different cameras to play with. Makes life more interesting. I definitely have enjoyed getting out more and more lately as real life gets more stressful. Anyway, I agree with all of what both of you said here. I get a similar feeling when using point and shoot film cameras. The casual feeling its something else. These days I have a great time with the Olympus XA2. Its very compact so you can pocket it and really daily carry it. I think this x100v is still too bulky and delicate. The XA2 has a cover for the lens and it doesn't stick out so you can be confident in throwing it in a pocket or bag and won't get damaged by other items. Maybe they can do a new version with the capability to cover all sensitive surfaces.

      @@25thpyroo I love it. I have it with me every day now, usually with the 23mm lens. But it’s quite a bit more expensive together with a lens. The 18mm lens on it is also excellent by the way, I just usually prefer the 23mm field of view. Of course, there is no successor for any L mount apsc cameras at the moment. Having said that, I think the lenses could be still used on full frame bodies in the future like the sigma fp line. The CL is not perfect but I prefer it to the x100v. I prefer the feel of the photos and also colours, even just the way they come through with the adobe colour raw profile. I can’t see myself ever selling it. Oh, one downside with the CL is that you cannot connect it to your computer to use as a webcam for example.

    I've had an X100T for several months, but sadly, I'm not in love. Picture quality is great of course, but you can say that for pretty much every digital camera these days. My main complaint is that it's not a truly "pocketable" camera, and I just find my X-T2 much more comfortable to hold and shoot with. With a small lens, the X-T2 isn't that much larger than the X100T. I also used to have an X-E2, to which I ended adding a bottom plate with a larger grip for more comfort - again, this combo ended up being nearly as big as the X-T2. (I had a very short fling with an X-S10 as well, got lured in by the built-in IBIS, but it felt like a plastic toy compared to all the other Fujis). For my needs, I can't imagine a better camera than the X-T2 (I'm sure I'd be happy with an X-T5, but of course I'll wait a few years to upgrade...)

  • @mercerna
    @mercerna ปีที่แล้ว

    I find this little camera quite appealing. I don't do photography for a living, but I do shoot almost every weekend on my X-T5. It's nice, but during weekdays I still want to carry it but usually end up leaving it home - it's a bit too big. If I had some spare cash sitting around I would go for an X100V or an XPro4 when that one comes out (and use it with a smaller lens like the 27mm). I edited my photos for a while, but then I just got over it and realized I don't need to edit every photo I take, and that a lot of them are good "as is" right out of camera. Imperfections also often give the photos some character or flavor. I also don't like shooting on my phone, I prefer it stay in my pocket most of the time.

    Yeah there is fine line between taking photos for PURE enjoyment vs wanting to be better/people viewing them/transition to professional work. The X100V is def a camera that caters to people who want to not think and worry about buying/bringing lenses but be able to take semi-professional looking photos and turn heads. People who are honestly shelling out this much for the X100V aren't purely "casual" users. No "casual" user is dropping almost $1500 for this. They specifically want an easier camera that still takes photos that can wow people to some degree with its awesome emulations and filters without having to deal with the nitty gritty of color grading or post work. I actually am blown away how good the photo aesthetics are from this camera. Every time I see sample photos and TH-camrs shots with this really can convince the average viewer or photographer that it's from a hella expensive camera. While some may argue it may not be a replacement for your work camera it's 100% a camera that can sustain an income as a b camera/travel/vlog type camera to build your "social media" network and portfolio. I think this camera could be a "photography" only person who does travel vlogs or runs a social media account like IG for destination travel etc. Maybe not a wedding/model/nature photographer but damn can it convince the average joe otherwise.

    I just received one from Adorama after 5.5 months on a waitlist. My first impressions are its a very solid little brick of a camera and I like the control knobs. The UI is a bit clunky and anything trying to be wireless on the software side feels like Windows 95 called. I got it for the controls and a bigger sensor than on my Sony RX100 v1 which has a similar aperture (1/3rd faster) but also has zoom. I will say, as far as pocketable goes and bang for the sensor buck, to be honest, the Sony RX100 v1 blows the x100v out of the water. No, it doesn't have retro control knobs or filters in camera but its miniscule in comparison and shoots raw and has every control possible just not with cool looking knobs. I am sure I will get some great photos out of the x100v but I do think it is well overhyped (what I liked was the relative fast aperture, weather sealed (ish) with a filter, the built in nd filter could be nice, the controls and maybe the bigger sensor is better in low light). The video on it is, without IS, terrible frankly.

    It's funny watching everyone make videos about this camera in the last year. I have a sliver x100v. I barely use it to be honest, but it is a great little camera. I've had it nearly two years and bought it before the hype. Kind of makes me want to sell it now everyone has one or wants one.

    The prices are really crazy. I could sell my X100F now for more than I've paid for it new when it came out. The main reason I'd upgrade to the X100V would be the weather sealing and maybe the titling screen. The inferior old lens on the X100F is more a X100V-hype-train argument than a problem in the real world. The lenses are identical apart from really close distance shots where you have to close the aperture a bit on the X100F to get the same result as on the X100V. This is not a bokeh monster anyway so I can live with that. So I'd highly recommend the X100F if you can get one for a reasonable price.

    I have an X100V i purchased for below list price in 2021. I also purchased a refurb Z7 and a 40mm f/2 lens for less than $2000. Anybody that pays more than list price for the X100V is a sucker being taken advantage by scalpers. The Z7 is a better camera technology wise, but the X100V speaks to the heart... I wouldn't sell either one at this point, but If I could only have one, it would be the Z7. It's a shame that Fuji can't keep up with the demand... they don't see any benefit from these scalper prices.

    X100V is overhyped. It's a fine camera, but when I was using it (and the X100F and the OG X100) I always felt like I was limited to only a small handful of focal lengths so I almost always grabbed one of my other X bodies and a few small primes. I very rarely ever used the Optical finder, the build in ND, or made full use of the leaf shutter. Everything else the camera offers (OTHER than a really nice built in flash), I have in my X-E4 bodies PLUS the X-E4 allows me to use just about any lens ever made for any camera system with a super affordable adapter. The bodies are almost the same size with the XF27/2.8, XF18/2, or TT Artisans 25/2 mounted and I get that same YEARNING to pick it up and make photos.

    I have the X100T and love it, i also have the XT10 and i can slap a prime lens on it with whatever focal length i want to play that day and also love it but for compactness and limitations to force you to think differently about composition i love the X100 series. The only thing im missing in the older models is not so much autofocus but the tilt screen and the closeup sharpness, but for those occasions i can just grab the. XT10 with whatever lens combination and im set. But I would not pay more than the official price for the X100V instead I would invest that extra money in some good glass for an interchangeable lens camera.

    Love the V - it's the camera that's in my bag all the time. Same reasons - easy to carry, love the ND filter and the pics that come out. Very similar to the XE2 I have, which I could argue has even better colours (older sensor). A XE4 with the 18 or 27 pancake will be a great alternative if you can't afford/find the V.

  • @thebitterfig9903
    @thebitterfig9903 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’d say that for less money, you could easily get an X-Pro3 and the 23/2 WR lens, still have the hybrid ovf experience, but looking at the prices on used XPro3… they’ve gone up like $400 since I got mine seven or eight months ago. Wild. To that end, the x70, which used to retail at half the MSRP of a Ricoh GR, now tends to be listed on the big used camera sites for more than a new GRiii. I love the Fuji controls and jpegs, but the prices are getting ridiculous relative to other great cameras.
    The x100v seems like a great camera. Even against other Fuji models which have the same jpeg options, it has a lot of special features, like the built in ND and flash, leaf shutter, and a unique lens which takes advantage of being fixed to be smaller (and maybe better?) than the WR 23. That kinda makes the x100v simultaneously under-appreciated and over-hyped and over-priced.

    Most people who buy the X100V, or the Leica Q2, soon realize that if you can’t change the lenses, it becomes quite limited fairly quickly!
    Sold my X100V and bought the XT5! But I already had plenty of lenses for inner changeable Fuji lens cameras. No doubt if you’re not quite sure about how much you want to spend in time and money at photography, the X100V is a good way to start.

    I don't get why this is more hyped than let's say an XE-4 is. The XE-4 is literally this camera minus the rangefinder but has the benefit to change lenses.

  • @scs6757
    @scs6757 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes it's overhyped. The XE-4 bundled with the 27mm 2.8 pancake lens was always the better buy. The X100V is taller and wider than a Sony a6400. Without lens and with the rubber eye cup removed, the a6400 is shorter front to back. Add a 20mm 2.8 pancake lens to the a6400 and it'll be a bit longer. But then every X100 shooter adds that thumb grip to the hot shoe because the X100 cameras have little to hold onto so it evens out. There are good enough films sims for Sony that can be loaded into the picture profiles if you want jpeg work flow. Manny cracks me up talking about how the V has a sharper lens, but then he puts a mist filter in front of it to soften it up and make it look more like an old P&S film camera The Sony 20mm 2.8 pancake is already soft. Or get the Sony 24mm 2.8 G if you want a sharp lens with an aperture ring that's only slight longer than the pancake lens. Paired with an 6400 it's $1500 vs the $1400 retail of the X100V if it was actually in stock anywhere, but you can actually get the Sony combo now at normal retail.
    Or just but a Nikon Zfc bundled with their 28mm 2.8 for $1100 retail. It's not that much bigger than the X100V, and it gives you all the manual controls and retro look. Plus, it gives you the versatility of an ILC like the a6000 series do. Or get a Fuji XT30 II with the TT Artisan copy of the Fuji 27mm 2.8, since Fuji won't bundle that combo together.

    I have to admit I always find amusing when someone says stuff like "but you could get a cheaper camera than the X100V" or "a way more flexible camera than the X100v because you can change lenses."
    Taking out the price these camera types just can't be compared like that because they are truly different. The X100V will give you vs some of those other cameras ultimate self-contained portability in a complete self-contained system- you don't have to buy anything else- maybe the filter adapter and filter to make it weather sealed.
    That's it- there's a simplicity to that and for many that will inspire them more to get out and shoot. For those people the lower price or the "extra flexibility of changing lenses" is irrelevant. It's really different concepts.
    Always buy what works *for you* but don't think everyone else has same needs and wants and they are not legitimate simply because they are different from yours.

    Amazing video. I have been thinking about buying this cam but then I thought why wouldn’t I buy a Sony a7C with a 24mm f2.5 G lens… light compact and I always have an option to get a new lens if needed. If 35 mm lens was morethan enough I don’t think Fuji wouldn’t have introduced a 50mm tele Converter for this cam.
