Hey Pete! I was green this game. I started watching your videos about two years ago and eventually downloaded the game and have been playing ever since. I never thought I would make it into one of your videos! I didn’t realize I was in this until 18 minutes in when black slammed the 16 and thought “huh, that seems familiar” 😂 my cap options this game were garbage so I was happy to get second, especially since I never fully recovered after black and red both hit me on the same turn. I was the weakest player heading into the 3 player endgame so why did you decide to back me instead of purple? It was cool to watch it back!
Ggs man! I was hoping to hear from you. I chose you to work with in the endgame over purple because we had both a perfect working relationship and a positional advantage over him. You seemed ready to work with me and back my plays and after purple overcommited on the red capital I saw an opportunity to break him and sit stacks in his bonuses while facing minimal retaliation. It all worked out perfectly and that was one of the cleanest finishes in the entire series imo. Thanks for being a homie! Ggs
As a viewer it was easy to see how good you were. I think Pete was thrown off by the cap choice, but you had zero options. I loved the fact you even made a 69 cap! 😀
This match was absolutely extraordinary. You played so well with Green and Purple, that whoever you chose not to team with at the end would have to assume you were collaborating. Such unbelievably efficient use of the meager communication system. Just a beautiful game. I felt so bad that you had to ultimately betray either of them that, had I been in this exact position, I would have taken 3rd and sued both of them individually. But yeah, wow... this is my favorite match I've ever watched in all the years of watching you play dude. Well done.
What an amazing game. Perfect example on communication and teamwork, killing players in order, smacking caps and how each player working together should play their position (green skipping for example) 10/10 this really shows why these negotiation game settings really put real skill into the spotlight.
Purple was the biggest player at the time pete made his decision and also had three caps. It made sense to me to partner with green against purple for a number of reasons. Board positions being one of them and also strength. If Pete teams with purple to attack green it’s likely Pete would go into a 1v1 with purple in a less advantageous position. By teaming with green on purple he was able to almost guarantee victory because green would be easier to lock in his noob corner pocket whereas purple had multiple mid board Caps that had fairly large troop counts. As sad as it was to see purple draw the short straw I think it was the right decision strategically.
Honestly not at all surprised with the rankings. Though I thought purple would be a bit higher up, green was the exact rank I thought they were. Black was at that stage in risk where he knew how to hit stuff & emote but nothing of diplomacy. Red was an opportunistic little shit who was effectively a toddler with a gun being released into a supermarket: somewhat dangerous with high risk of injury, but easily dealt with.
Poor Purpie boy-he did everything he could to secure you first place, even if it meant taking second himself. How could he have known things would end up this way? Betraying Purple was the winning move, but no one wants to realize that the hero they cheered for was the villain all along.
I think purple sort of doomed himself when he chose to steal the Orient cap rather than contribute to the killing of red. He and green were both mostly playing along with Pete, but green was more willing to advance the game and not just his own board state. Made it an easy choice I think when it came right down to it.
@@RickofUniverseC-137 Interesting. Believe it or not analysis of skill levels like this actually helps me learn what to look for so that I can try and peg the levels of the people I'm playing against and plan accordingly
@@MrFredstt Smart. But remember, GM doesn't necessarily mean better. I said "I would say master" not because he played worse than Green, but because he played better. He was willing to sacrifice in order to improve the game state. A little suggestion for you: Stop trying to identify the worse player. Instead, try to identify an emotional player (not always the same). Get other player to hit him a little, then team up with the emotional player. It works like a charm.
Almost every decision in the mid to late game Green made screamed GM level play, was awesome to see it was actually the case. Comparing that to purple, though they had solid play, they made obvious mistakes when handling red. Really amazingly sequenced game with solid communication, definitely one of the best videos to highlight why these settings are amazing
It‘s probably harder to see when you are actually playing, but as a viewer it was clear to see how good he was. Card skipping, good communication, stepping off at the end. He even made a 69 cap! 😀 Maybe Pete was thrown off by how terrible his cap choice was, but he had absolutely zero options.
other than the noob corner cap (don’t remember the other options) green seemed like the best player for most of the game. purple seemed pretty good early on but as around the mid game it seemed pretty clear that they weren’t all that great. green seemed to be almost the opposite. the cap choice (again, it may have been the best choice if all the others sucked) didn’t seem great, but around the mid game and certainly the end game they seemed much better than purple.
Green probably took the noob cap, because it was the best available spot for him in the 4th position. He had some potential other spots in the Balkans, but those were killed by the 3 players before him capping in the surrounding bonuses and most of blue's (5th player) starting territory was in Russia making it likely he'd cap there. This left the west unclaimed and likely easy to expand in.
I'm surprised you estimated Purple was better than Green at some points in this game. I thought Green played great all game, was friendly to you when you took France right in front of him, didn't make a dumb move in Germany because it might antagonize Purple despite having the opportunity, and tried to take an exterior bonus just like you. Had the misfortune that exterior bonus abutted Black and Red who both screwed him over giving him second instead of having a fighting chance for first, but I don't think he made any mistakes all game.
Don't forget when I was in the last Pete tournament everyone saw me as a low rank player and the response was "well that's all we have to go off of". I was way back then like 120 on the saber. Currently 475 but haven't done anything since Pete's last tourney. Might take more time to look them up when worth it but who knows
Green's cap was decent because it basically acted as a retaliatory stack. Besides, he didn't have much of a choice when you look at their other options
39:30 This is where purple and green should have teamed up in order to stand a chance. The game had just gone from three players being somewhat equal in size, to one player being as big as the other two combined. They threw the game by not adapting to the new status quo.
ive only played in 1 random game with a grandmaster before (im intermediate) and it was a game i knew i was going to lose and i didnt have any real targets to aim my sue at so i just arbitrarily chose the green player cause i had other things i wanted to do than finish a game that i was dead to rights in. Turns out he was grandmaster and i gave him 2nd lowest without realizing. somewhere out there theirs a grandmaster whos game i totally ruined for them and when i remember that it both makes me laugh and feel a bit bad cause he didnt deserve it, wasnt even bordering my part of the map. i just had 1 set and 1 territory left in a game i couldnt win and decided he would be the victim of my last hurrah. sorry anonymous green grandmaster on the future earth map

What an excellent game, that got watched at 1x speed, and i was thinking purple/green were masters, look that interior guard stack on purple? like, the game all around was just doing so well. Alliance system use, so excellent, it was more or less a five player game though out of the gate.

That's why you shouldn't do that if you want to win games. You're only an ally as long as you're useful.
green had some of the worst cap options ive ever seen
24:28 is my favorite part of this video. it made me genuinely laugh out loud how fixated purple was on green and your reaction was hilarious
even at 33:25 lol
You could tell green was a Grandmaster, he made a 69 cap
specifically going out of his way adding a single extra troop 😆
@@cameronmcguire5025 yeah I was surprised Pete didn’t notice the 69 cap.

17 minutes in the quality of play from purple and green is nice too see. Fresh change of pace from the bad play we see alot of the times in games.
Another episode of the best Risk series on youtube. Thanks as always Pete!

Purple won't be a Beginner for long. Good play by both them and Green
It was his alt account; this level of play is beyond a beginner's skill level.
