    Daily log - any notes, events, etc. you may hear of throughout the day. Migrate things to a digital calendar later. Take time to think about why the things you're scheduling actually matter. At the end of the day or first time next morning, choose what tasks you will commit to by migrating things from your bujo to your calendar.
    Schedule tasks in calendar just like you would any appointment.
    Tasks are experiences waiting to be born - schedule when you will do what.
    Your calendar represents the choices your are making.
    Don't forget the larger story you're trying to live - so slow down and take the time to choose what goes from your daily log to your calendar.
    Process driven vs purpose driven - what things are worth your time?

    I do agree with what you said, but this seems to only apply to people who own a business or TH-camrs. I work in the IT/telecom business and barely have a say as to what meeting is valid or not. the only thing I can do is figure out how to get the meeting over faster. so my question to you is, how could we apply your ethics to someone who's time is sometimes not his?

    This was SO helpful, even if to just know I'm not the only one to struggle with this question. Early on in my BuJo practice, I ran into this very dilema. I missundersood the process and ultimatly faild for the first year. I did, thankfully, keep at it and discovered that I still needed to integrate Google Calendar and other tools to keep myself organized.
    Another helpful resource is Tom Sachs's Ten Bullets... specifically "Keep a List".
    "Keep a prioritized list at all times. Keep track of every detail relating to every project you are involved with - phone numbers and parts numbers - your list is your future and your past. You will justify your actions through a carefully updated list."
    This quote forevr changed the way I look at (use) Bullet Journaling!

    Thank you for this video! I'm slowly transitioning from a physical BuJo to TickTick - a digital app. I can do Kanban, Eisenhower Matrix, habits, etc. I can also transfer some articles from the Internet to read later. I use it for everything I do during the day, be it meal planning, or books reviews, or just my daily like like cleaning the bathrooms. The great thing about this is that I can use it both on my Android and on the web and they synchronize. I found it faster to enter my notes and reminders than using the physical BuJo, which is why I've decided to go digital. I still consider it a BuJo because it has everything I had in my notebooks (and more).

      I have used gcal since 2008, and I find it helpful because I can search for any past appts on there. When I’m in the doctor’s office, I can pull it up and know right away if I have a conflict when scheduling the next appt. The rest go into Reminders (Apple) app, I have repeating tasks set for certain days in there, as well as one offs.

Funnily enough, mine (Android) can go way back for anything I put in there but my husband's (iPhone) gets deleted after 3 months. Everything needs to "earn" its place - so if it is an important idea, it goes into a knowledge management app called Roam Research, if it's an important event, it will go into the Google Calendar, and if it's an important Team task, it goes into a project management app called Clarity. Other thoughts and personal tasks stay in the BuJo. Hope this gives some initial thoughts!

    Very interesting - scheduling tasks on Google calendar.
    Similarly I use a weekly log setup for scheduling my work tasks. But I do t bullet them so there’s no migration for that spread.
    That helps when things don’t go as planned. The day before I review my daily log and monthly tasklist and migrate tasks to the weekly log day slot under a project heading. It’s more like a map than anything but sometimes I use it like a timebox if I’m really clicking along (just add more lines)

Just wondering: When you want schedule for example a dinner with some friends for next week and you write it down in your notebook, and you want to add it to your Google Calendar later, what bullet do you use? Is it an event bullet, or a task bullet? With a task bullet your can cross off if you added it to a calendar, but of course it is actually an event. And how do you keep track of what you need to schedule and what is already migrated, if it is an event bullet?

    For example: I debate whether to just rapid log "2R" versus create a collection of books, scripts and articles "To Read."
    Ditto: Rapid log movies, TV shows, documentaries and webinars "2W" - or creating and maintaining a "To Watch" Collection.
    (or putting all of them into one IP/Content Collection?)
    Same with "Impulse Cooler" - things I want to buy - but want to "Cool It" ;-) a minute to see if the impulse passes after researching vendors, prices, options, etc.
    I later put these into Airtable... so maybe Rapid (Daily) Logging is the answer? Or...???
    THANK YOU!

    How do you get to remind yourself to use your bujo? And to do your reflection? If it's all planning and not doing it doesn't work. You can set yourself all sort of goal and all but how do you actually make it happen in real life. I am a master planner and... a poor executioner ( haha! 😉💀). How to get reminded with the doing when you have kids and multiple roles to play? Or to put it otherwise; how do you "weed out distraction" and focus what's most important with neuro divergent brains🧠. Thank you for the video I was writing down where to make a resource place for links articles, teachings and also discovering the the digital tools along my Bujo. Also thank you for the book it's great so far

      When I migrate to my calendar, I write a "C" just to the left of the ">" I wrote to show that I migrated the item to my calendar. Likewise, we use Trello extensively at work, so I enter "T>" for items migrated to Trello. I don't migrate either of these items within my notebook during the next review, but I always have the original entry as reference.

    For me it's pretty much the exact opposite. I introduce any information in to the system through google calendar because i find it way more convenient to use my phone for that in comparison to an analog notebook. Every task or event or idea is directly sceduled for a date where i guess i will have time for it. Every evening when planning the next day i then look into my calendar and check the tasks, meetings etc. Tasks which are not necassary to be done this day may be migrated to the next open timeslot in my google calendar. This way no task gets lost and a timeplanning method is developed while capturing the information. This worked great for me for the last 11 months but whats best about the bullet journal method is, that it is so personally customizable. So be inspired by my way of bujo and by ryder carrolls way but find your own style. Peace!

    Interesting perspective. Definitely more for those who have the luxury of having control over what’s worth their time or not. Those of us who are employees don’t have that luxury. I can’t tell my boss that an assignment is not worth my time, hence much of my activities will remain process-driven rather than purpose-driven.

    I have a question regarding the Book Log practice and the Daily log.
    I'm exploring the BuJo as an note-taking method to read book while staying disconnected from Internet and distractions, and staying mindful about the reading itself.
    I've read the article about Book Log, given that I create a new collection for Books to read, and a new collection for each book so far I can understand this. However, I'm trying to think throught whether I should take all the notes from my reading in the Daily Log first and then migrate, or to take them directly into the Collections and creating new pages for each chapter.
    Also, during reading I tend to discover a lot of tasks that I would like to experiment in future on. Of course not all those are meaningful, but they are within the notes of the book itself. Should I migrate all those tasks to the daily note, or I should take everything in the daily note, and migrate book notes to book collections?
    Also, I would like to have a digital Zettelkasten of my notes, so the notes that are most useful I use the "+" sign to mark those notes as migrated to the ZK. So I wonder how many migrations I should do

    Huh. I find myself disagreeing with the idea of putting your tasks in your calendar. Although I suppose I wonder how far ahead you're doing it. I feel like my calendar starts to get rigid when I put too much stuff in there that's not really an appointment per se, and things get really messy when some tasks inevitably take longer than I thought or turn into something else.

    Hi Ryder! Love your content and systems.
    I have a question: Do you have a limit of tasks allowed for day in Bujo? Sometimes i had troubles with the fact of mixing GTD method with BuJo, and ended writting a lot of tasks down when they came to my mind. Because "Your mind is for having ideas, not for holding them"
    Right now i'm testing the 8 priority tasks practise, where i only allow myself to write down 8 priorities for the day, and the goal is being a little ambigue so i can reach them, but only are allowed tasks that drives you to your objectives or purpose in life.
    IDK if is a great solution, but i can say that i feel a lot less stressed.
    I would love to hear what do you think or implement, because, i know that you say when you begin to the practise you have to use a paper and a pen, and then you filter what goes in and what doesn't. But in daily life, having a paper for testing if the information or task are relevant, are not an option

    • @MikeIsCannonFodder
      @MikeIsCannonFodder ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the problems for the daily log is it's a log, not a todo list. It's the GTD/PARA inbox essentially. You don't want to lose tasks, so limiting to a certain number seems like it will eventually cause things to get lost. Something you can do is start the task description with a due date so you know it's not a priority now but you don't want to forget it. If you want tasks like that marked off to help declutter your day, you could immediately put that future task in your Future Log and put the back arrow on the daily log bullet. You could also do your 8 tasks practice by putting little numbers next to the tasks; write them with your normal pen if you won't change the numbers much or maybe a pencil if you reorder them a lot.
      I guess I should have started with this: what have you tried and what's worked the last 7 months?

    • @MikeIsCannonFodder
      @MikeIsCannonFodder ปีที่แล้ว

      Another idea occurred to me, if you have to track that much nearly every day, is do a daily spread like what's done for a month. On the left, you'd plan your day, and on the right you'd do that day's regular daily log. Hmm. Though I still like the idea of everything going through the "inbox," it'd be weird to have items doubled up on both sides. Or you could add some indirection on the left. Letter or number the tasks next to their bullet on the right. On the left, just reference the task by letter. Make it easy to shift priorities around too, but also make it harder to read the day's active work list.

    I use Google Calendar for appointments and family appointments and reminders for my children, and my bujo for rapid logging and note taking, tasks lists etc. I struggle with making good use of the time when I don't have time fixed events to work though my sizable to do list. I am not good at estimating how long something will take. Blocking time in my calendar to complete different tasks makes SO MUCH sense to me, but I'm not sure how best to organize it. Setting aside a block of time for a specific context of tasks like GTD? Setting aside time for each task? Or genre of task for my business? The routine tasks can feel overwhelming?

    Since having a baby (18 mths ago) I haven't been using my BuJo much, I think because I get pulled in so many directions at once - including having a pen pulled out of my hand by baby as I try to write! I don't want to be relying on my phone so much to make notes, and I'm starting to notice I'm getting confused again about how to organise my life outside of showing up to events/appointments (which I do through Google Calendar). QUESTION ❓ I recently figured out that I have ADHD. I've been a bujo user for years but there's been a disconnect between writing down goals and doing the things I've written down. This video was helpful for that. My Question is, how do you get started as someone who still struggles with the actual doing if the plan? What's helped you the most in narrowing down ALL the ideas and distilling the true priorities from that big list? How do you pick? How do you start? Thank you. ☺️

    • @PriscilleDhesse

      Hi, ADHD girl here too ! I also used the bujo for a long time before my ADHD diag last year. I’m still trying to manage everything, but here is some tips I got by myself and with my neuropsy for cognitive remediation :
      • How to get started ?
      I’ve built strong routine on the morning, BUT by starting small and developping them little by little. I use the Fabulous app and after several weeks I got to the point I have two routine about it before starting my day. Each has a 5min timer so this limits the risk to zone out. :
      1. Right down all the things I THINK I have to do. (Usually on a paper note beside my bujo)
      2. Prioritize and pick the 3 MOST IMPORTANT things to do today and make a podium with 1-2-3. I put them on the bujo.
      The other things must wait. I write the smallest ones with paper pencil for the day, the other ones goes to the « to-do » week sections and will be dispatch the next days. It’s good if I have extra time to do them too, otherwise It will wait.
      • What help me the most to distilling the true priorities :
      A = Do it has a deadline ? If yes, when ?
      B = Are other people involved in this task? What are the consequences if I don’t check them today ? (Am I really going to die? X)
      C = Is it personnal or professionnal work ? Depending if its a working day or a rest day. Keep the professionnal work away from your day off.
      D = Finally, the most effective and totally ADHD related : Is it about a new hyperfocus or « new project » ? If yes, sincerely is it another one that have good chances to be forgotten in few days or weeks ? In a nutshell : Is it worthwhile? According to all the other projects already in mind…
      • How do I pick ?
      Following the previous questions.. BUT ! I often find myself in a tricky situation with 3 important priorities in a day, but which cannot be completed in just 8 hours of work. So here is the final step I’m still learning right now : estimate how much time a task takes and divide it into pomodoro numbers (25mins each). If those 3 can’t be all done this day, I need to prioritize again and just pick one.
      This involves breaking down the sub-tasks involved in each project. For example, « Do my homework » really means :
      « Do my math exercice » that can be done in 20 mins, so about 1 pomodoro
      + « Do the Biology test » that can be done in 1hours » so about 2 pomodoros, etc etc…
      • How do you start?
      Once I wrote down my 3 priorites for the day on my bujo, I start my pomodoro timer for 25 mins of work. Almost everytime I don’t launch it right away, my morning is fucked, I swear… Once I start the to-do list of the day, I track each pomodoro I made for each tasks. If I don't have enough pomodoro for some sub-tasks while I'm working, I've misjudged my time and I need to adjust it. This invites us to assess our projects and the time they require realistically.
      Hope it can help. Pick wathever you want in this huge answer, haha! Some may not works for you, it doesn't mean you're bad. Also, be brave. I know how difficult the beginning of our diagnosis can be. Keep it up! It's gonna be hard on the beginning, be definitely for the better!♥

    Thank you for this helpful video and I got some great notes in my NEW BuJo. I am new to BuJo tho suspect I've been doing some form of it for a while now, but the piece I am enjoying is the Intentional Life and making choices that will and do benefit my life in this moment. A friend turned me onto the BuJo Method for work, but I am finding very helpful for my personal mindset. For someone who is saying Yes, to just about everything, because I feel I do not do enough I am learning that I am not left much for me...this can be said with all areas in my life, home, relationships, work, financially. So again thank you for these youtube collections and I am LOVING reading my book, I read a little at night before bed and I FINALLY started setting up and writing in my Bullet Journal Today with intention of evening and morning review as a routine to Reflect and see where am I spending all this time I do not have for myself.
    Ok so my QUESTION: How Do you use your BuJo for Finances? Bill Pay, Personal Loan Repayments, Creating savings for that "Hawaii trip"? I'm struggling to figure out how to set this up, yet I just created a Collection "Bills / Loan Repayments" on Page 13! Stuck but I know it will help me. What are some best practices you have found? How do I create a plan that works for what my bills are, what my outstanding debt are, and what I can put in the bank to go take a LONG overdue vacation or even invest in my BuJo course (yes that's even on my wish list)! This "go to View place" I feel will help me remember WHY...right now it's just on my calendar as a bill and it's due date, but I feel this is not enough.

      You might still list them all in order, and vary the bullets. If you are saying these appointments are in your Digital Calendar, then you can begin each day by copying down a general overview of your day with the tasks interspersed?
      For example it might look like
      O 9am - Meeting with Z [pg 32]
      * 10am - prepare agenda for X
      O 11am - Therapy appointment [pg 17]
      * 12:30pm - drop off mail
      * 1:00pm - finalize newsletter
      O 3:00pm - team standup
      And of course you can add whatever notes and other tasks as your day unfolds afterward! You'll see I added brackets next to some of the appointments as a possibility for you to "thread" and connect your meeting to a related Collection in your BuJo by adding the page number. Hope this helps!

Having tasks in Asana also allows me to keep all the notes and files related to the task together so they are easy to find when I work on the project. The other benefit is that it's virtual.
