    the cool thing is that the missiles use the gravity generator of the ship ITSELF to drop from the bomb bay, and it stops dropping when it is out of the gravity field. nice way to save a launching mechanism.
    since gravity generators only work on mass blocks these misslies would still work in free falling conditions on a planet which is interesting...

      I actually did not even think of using this near a planetary gravity well, but I'm glad u noticed the release mechanism. The issue I was having with a thruster based release is if the torpedo rotated while releasing it could get stuck in the bay. This was the simplest and most robust method I toyed with :)

      And the best. As long as you are NOT free falling ( since I now know gravity generators do not work on over 0.4G of natrual gravity), you can actually make a atmospheric version of it that is a LOT cheaper and smaller (in fact you might be able to fit a warhead on the back covered by heavy armour)

Ive been keeping en eye on new things added in etc but ive forgotten alot. now with planets out ill be jumping back in. long story short...how did the thrusters start up once out of the ship? i feel like i should know but cant for the life of me remember...

    +TheXPGamers Shack, I believe the mass blocks are part of the launching system, probably uses the ships gravity generator to drop the torpedoes out the bottom, then the torps program takes over, turns off the mass blocks, starts the engines, and they are on their way.
    Its obviously a very clever system and I am most definitely going to download this and dissect it so I can utilize it in my own builds.
    Great video, I really wanted to see how they did against point defense systems from the start and you did not disappoint. That's usually why I don't make these kind of torpedoes because they can get shot down so fast, but these seem to do quite well. Also, with some tweaking you could probably make it have different types of warheads, kinetic, explosive, decoy, or timed explosive. Man there are a lot of possibilities for this thing.

    In space, kinetic weaponry would be extremely effective, because there is no atmosphere to slow projectiles...so you could launch a missile at a station from 100 kilometers out, accelerate it to maximum speed, and then just keep it loaded long enough for it to hit the station with extreme force, without having to guide it. You could even use larger guided projectiles than the Komodo does with a larger dedicated bombardment platform. It would also be useful attacking targets inside a gravity well or on a planet from orbit, which would be devastating. All you need is a big rock to throw at people, with maybe a couple thrusters and possibly a guidance system for hitting moving targets.

    So it is basically a Mass Effect Kinetic Weapon, shooting a heavy object at fast speeds, letting the kinetic force destroy the target. Very impressive!

    I think just one modification would make the missiles quite a bit more effective. Cap the end of the missiles with a missile launch system that would act both as a MIRV and decoys as the missile enters range of the anti-smallcraft/missile systems.
    Another option is to tip the missile with a cargo container filled with stone.

    This was very interesting. There should be a way to set turrets to different targets.
    For example:
    1 ship attacking, all turrets focus fire
    2 ships attacking, some turrets switch target based on threat level
    This could be exploited though. There just has to be a way to take down multiple incoming cruise cruise missiles at once.

    A lot of these scripts use the fact that once the script has found the blocks when it's connected via merge block, it can then communicate with them wireless via magic once it's disconnected. Got to wonder how viable that will be going into the future.

      Adam Wallis while this is an old comment I think the recent update might be sign of something relevant.
      Inter Grid communication for the programable block using antenna, with this now in place the magic of which you speak May well be removed. If so we'll have to build antenna on the torpedoes which will pretty much take away all element of surprise sice it'll broadcast its presence in order to guide in.

    tow missiles! like what the army uses or rather what the army used before remote guided missiles operated by armored vehicles were invented! basicly wire operated when they were used! I think the army may still use them but I'm not sure!

      +Ernesto Rodriguez The military still uses them, and they use them a lot. The TOW never fell out of favor... infantry, helicopters, and ground vehicles all use them. The Bradley, designed in the 90s, comes with a dual TOW launcher.

    The artificial masses in the torpedoes is probably to speed them up using a targeted ship's own gravity well.

    Nice torpedo ship, I particularly like the deployment of the warheads. It's a slightly different configuration to a torpedo frigate I made awhile back.

    I'd love to see a ship with two dual launcher turrets with that system. Having to move the entire ship to point it at the target doesn't allow for much kiting, also the ship is vulnerable if ambushed from behind.
    A turret mounted system would probably allow more flexibility. (Weak spot would be rotors, though)
    But I absolutely love that ship. Everything about it is simply awesome. I love its design, I love that it's practically built around a central weapon system, the crew compartment isn't a bloated mess of mods (what's the point of toilets in a game where you don't poop anyways?). This is easily one of my favourite designs I've seen so far.

    another thing i can see this being used as is planetary bombarment when planets come out. also i wonder if you can put this on a small ship with smaller missles which are premade then attached to it then you just lauch like 8 at once

      +shiva chirr Check out the Mk 1 bomber by wastedspace. The "Bombs" use the same kinetic principles but are cheaper and unguided. They're so good you can use them in survival servers!

      +Barley Sixseventwo that i know but they lack they are pretty much dumb bombs for wasted space stuff what im thinking is longer rang missles and some kind of way of having a remote control block to lock on to the gps of the base from orbit. if anything in the end once the missle bat runs out its in dead drop due to the gravity field

      +shiva chirr I find a few problems with this being used as a planetary bombardment weapon, these things lack warheads, meaning that they could only be effectively used against outposts which are on a world which does not contain oxygen in its atmosphere. Furthermore, this weapon has been designed to penetrate the hull of ships to disable them, planetary bases would realistically be able to endure much more punishment, especially if the base is underground which would be the most reliable place to create a base and who could tell how these things could act in natural gravity! I could only see these being used as powerful enough kinetic weapons if these things were created on a much smaller scale containing only one warhead, and equipped with atmospheric thrusters and placed upon a smaller strike type craft, or better yet, equipped with warheads.

    Damn this ship looks amazing, with those kinetic pounder torpedoes I can see a ship like this being a space pirate's flagship, fire torpedoes to make a door and then send a boarding team in to gather up pieces and kill any survivors :D

    Now, just you imagine, your enemy is not armed like a freighter but is actually a warship with 20+ turrets aiming at the torpedos. A very interesting concept but may be useless against the targets it actually makes sense to use against

      Super late to the party :P
      The Mk 2 has four missiles and I essentially rewrote my code. New code makes the missile execute a spiral trajectory which allows it to dodge most incoming fire. If you are familiar with the TVSI Ifrit, I was able to squeeze a few missiles past her PDS (over 100 turrets of mixed design).

    Welp, this is pretty awesome. Hands down to the creator, this is awesome. Pure awesome.
    But, I'm a total assbag so I'm going to give a little comment or 55 on the strategic value.
    First, the ship is downright weak when it comes to taking fire from hostile vessels. A much bigger vessel might be better with this system, this point will be enforced by my second comment.
    Second, so are the missiles! Quite a bit will be intercepted, which is why I recommend firing quite a bit of decoys first. 5 torpedos cladded in armor , with one thruster at the back fired in the general direction would do really as a decoy.
    Possible adaptation: Drop pods. Fire one missle, one drop pod. Missle creates a hole, drop pod makes use of that. Ta-daa!

    Hey CaptainShack ( +TheXPGamers ) , i have some food for thought. In the last space engineers stream hosted by the dev team they showed an atmo thruster. however, every design on the workshop that is supposed to be a void to atmo drop ship has hydrogen thrusters. that means all of the designs for drop ships are going to be really inefficient when landing or taking off.

    Very nice job by whoever designed that and built it, that's a genius launch system. I know I tried to make a guided missile ship a while back but I was trying to use a preloaded vls setup with tv guided missiles, it wasn't very effective.
    Feel free to call me petty but one mistake id argue about this ship is due to it's small size, speed and maneuverability, I would say it's more of a corvette or possibly a frigate then a destroyer. Another thing I would have liked to see would have been a small hanger bay, for one or two small ships for transport or for recon of the area.

      the thing is that the missile launcher itself is REALLY small... only three big blocks wide and ten long. practically fits on any big ship.
      I want to see how many you can fit on a honest to gods 1:1 scale star destroyer...
      that would be terrifying.

    From my experience playing on MP servers, light armor has no place on a ship meant for combat unless its used in the interior. It just doesn't stand a chance against rocket fire.

      +Rmartin689 Normally, I'd agree. However, it all comes down to what the ship's function in battle is. This ship's primary form of attack is to belt torpedoes from 10km away. That's, I believe, 9km further than your rockets or gatlings are capable of firing at. And the Komodo has a jump drive for easy escape. So the idea is to jump in, fire your torpedo salvos, and when your opponent gets close enough to fire at you, jump out. Then jump back in from long range, rinse, repeat.
      In such a situation and for such a combat ship, light armor is perfectly acceptable as you have no intention of engaging in close-range knife-fights.
      Also, I use to have this little one-man interceptor I employed on a few MP servers. It wasn't a particularly strong ship, only had two rocket turrets, two gatlings, and a single forward-mounted rocket launcher-- that's paltry by most any standards. And it was covered in light armor save for the where the pilot stayed and where the reactors were, which had heavy armor. But it was a vicious little fucker. Its primary role was harassment. I didn't use it to close in and bare launcher fire. Had I done so, this thing would have melted hilariously quick. The point of the ship was to orbit from max range, fire rockets, and dip out of range when return fire came. And it was quick enough at accelerating to keep the distance and make sure people didn't get close. The only time I'd start closing in and using the launcher was when they'd lost their ammo/weapons.
      Point is... light armor isn't always bad on a PVP ship. You just need to know what the goals are for that ship and whether you want it engaging in rocket duels or not.

    Shack, you should put a spherical gav generator set to reverse at max range on your ship, or several. Push them up to max power and see if the missiles can penetrate your grav shields. If not then that would be something to add to future builds so that you can protect from kinetic missiles that have mass blocks on them. Or do the mass blocks turn off on the missiles after launch?

    Hey Shack! Love your series and anything SpaceEngineers related. I didnt get it yet, but the planet update might do it for me. But I was wondering. What would look like, the smallest ship possible. only movements maybe 1 gun. Can it be build like some sort of jet bike(a big big jetbike) like the one Darth Maul uses. Or like one of these rockets but with a seat on it and being lighter :D thanks and keep flying, thats all that matters

    It would be very cool to able to navigate these torpedos from a different ship. Imagine a tiny camera drone navigating torpedos at a target shot from your base that is tens of thousands km away. Is that possible?

    My only problem with this is the 'stupidity' of the PD turrets; if they somehow had a 'threat assessment' capability, these missiles would be a little less effective, since the turrets wouldn't screw themselves over targeting torpedoes that have been intercepted effectively already, whilst the second one is free to impact because nothing is focused on it.

    i would actually set missile ciws to only attack ships
    and i think those torpedos count as ships so basicly if one of those flew at one of my capital or ciws support ships the missile turrets should open up on them i guess

      Saden If your target can out run the torpedoes or even delay them, it would significantly reduce there effectiveness.

    Shack i think the mass block on the torpedoes are for propelling it out of the launch bay

    Hmm. If those missiles use mass blocks I would probably set up some outward facing spherical gravity generators on my ship as countermeasures.

    Actually, mass is the only thing you need when it comes to a weapon that will be used from space... if you have a single object propelled at enough speed, it's mass will increase exponentially according to it's velocity, and when it impacts, it will have a tremendous force without needing to pack a warhead... If you launch a golf ball fast enough, it could technically level a concrete wall...

    Im trying to build one that launches a small camera ship that flies to a target and then then mothership launches huge missiles that fly toward the target and hand off control to the camera ship that does the final guide in. Also one with just a ton of remote controlled missiles that the crew can fire and fly non stop.

    this ship needs assemblers and what ever else you need to process materials so that you can make more than 21 missiles by gathering materials

    I wonder if it is possible to remote control something like that by strapping a camera on it and guiding it that way with a lot more power so it can destroy a destroyer like the one that was just shown

    going to test those missiles with PD wepons turned on so I can see if there viable but chances are there not cause you don't have to damage the warhead block itself in order to get it to blow up
