RECORD AUDIO NOTES | Use A Dictaphone To Record Offline Audio Notes

- Audio notetaking using a standalone, offline dictaphone (voice recorder) is a really fun and engaging way to capture thoughts and ideas. I find that I am free to just say what I want (speaking out loud can sometimes generate more ideas, etc.), and then listen back to take action or to write down the salient points in my journal or other notebook.
A requested video here from a recent comment enquiry about how one can use a dictaphone.
I use a dictaphone pretty much every day in some capacity for either work or play. Usually when my hands are tied, so to speak, or if I'm not in the mood to write at that particular time. There are many uses, and in this video, I share a number of ways recording audio notes on a standalone, offline dictaphone can be hugely beneficial.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks Barry for touching on this technique and making us aware that there are other tools, to immortalise our thoughts, or also not if we decide to.
Just ordered me one , I'm going to give it a try
Ah you're very welcome Patrick - and great news you're going to try it out; do please let us know how you get on :)
I haven't had or used a dictaphone in years, but I could use one because I can't always stop to write in my notebook. I really enjoyed this inspiring video, Barry. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!
Definitely go for one my friend, it's a great tool :) Delighted you liked the video.
I'm writing using the Google translator, since I'm from Uruguay and I don't speak the language. Just say that the channel and the content are very good. Tube olimpus and Sony recorders are very useful for capturing a lot of information that sometimes you can't do with pen and paper, especially when you are driving a vehicle. A big greeting and to remain firm in the channel. 🇺🇾
Hello Diego, thanks so much for your message! Great to see you here :) They really are useful indeed when pen and paper is not practical. The Google translator worked well! :) Take care!
I'm 26 and a notebook user. I've used a notebook since 2023 February and I love the fact that ideas, dreams, todo stuff and economy can be written down easily instead of using my phone. It is a joy to use but I've watched one of your videos Barry about taking notes with a voice recorder before and that video made me try out doing both paper and voice recorder and I must say it is a pleasure to use both as they have their strengths and short comings but using them both along each other is great!
So happy you've embraced the combination of notebook and voice recorder! :) It's so great to have the option to use both. Thank you!
Fantastic video. I want to get one now and experience that
Delighted you liked it, and happy buying and using :)
@@BarrysAnalogInsights if I’m not mistaken I think Olympus is now named OM System. So far seems the most budget friendly I’ve been able to quickly find.
Last time I used one of these it was the late nineties, a college lecture, and it used a micro cassette.
I found I rarely listened to the recording and instead relied on my hand written notes.
The micro cassette, that was it :) I really liked the one I had; wish I still had it.
Excellent video. I have a Sony similar to yours. One other use for them is to record the audio for a video using a quality plug in mic and the machine tucked in a pocket. Just clap so the audio and video track can be synced. No need to rely on wireless connections!
Thanks Roland - and what a splendid tip indeed - will use that myself :)
I’ve always carried one with me, though I mostly use it while driving to take notes. Otherwise I’d forget by the time I got to the office :). CRS disease
It is so very useful isn't it.
My career in a maximum security jail and then my short time in our court house. We were not allowed any kind of recording devices. Ever since I haven't been able to get that out of my head. LoL
The other issue I tend to ramble and run thoughts through, I used this technique when investigating situations. Just trying to process someone else's thoughts. It helps to put yourself in the other person's shoes so to speak. These ramblings if someone was to take out of text could be very hurtful and or damaging. I still do this to try and process things today.
As a legal point if a situation was ever to happen and I had the recorder on me. The recordings could be used against me. Having to take the time to write out my thoughts, makes me think twice before writing them. Which helps in the Worst case that my note pad gets confiscated, or just lost and found.
As usual it's more an issue of me over thinking things lol. But for now I stick to pen and paper, although I have suggested recorders to others depending on their situations.
Thank you for the great video!! I will be forwarding it, hopefully it reaches someone who may need to see it. 🤷
God bless
Wow!! Thanks for sharing this with us Greg. You must've seen a lot of strange/difficult things over the years. For me, pen and paper is still the final place I like to put my notes.
Are any of those sensitive enough to record a meeting? Set it up in the center of the board room table, and record all the discussion? Because something like that would be really useful to me.
Yes, the Sony-type ones are that have specific 'scenes' (sensitivity) to choose for recording e.g. Meeting, Lecture, Interview, Voice Memo, etc.
@@BarrysAnalogInsights Perfect. Thanks!
Good morning. Thanks for the information. I wondered, though, are you able to keep your recordings on the dictaphone? I mean if you are recording, say, several meetings at a time and don't need to access them immediately can you just start again each time and then access all of them at a later date. Or even just one of them. Are they labeled on the devise screen?
Hi Laurie, thanks for your question. Yes indeed you can store many hours worth of recordings on the devices themselves. At 03:00 for example, you'll see I have 61 recordings on that device. Devices mainly label with date and time of recordings.
@@laurielafond4731 as long as you set the machine to the correct date you will have the date and time of each recording. The Sony holds many hours of recordings.
Thank you for the requested video. I am going to use mine more now. I’m going back to Uni for a work course so will use it then but I also would like to use it more in everyday life and get the maximum use out of it.
It was recommended for me for my dyslexia and help with recording, remembering and recalling lectures. I’ve just not tried to use it my personal life yet.
@@charley1715 I'm sure you will have a great time using it, and will certainly be most helpful for Uni work too :)
