Sorry for no audio on the actual drum set. I’m still learning how to record them.
I’m playing along to someone else playing Rock Band 4 - th-cam.com/video/wPAHyod-Ot0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QAVcJ_29jGlMAVZT
I like recording myself play because I can physically see what I’m doing. My floor toms need to be raised more so I’m not leaning over.
Things that I will work on:
    - Timing
    - Singles/Triplets
If there’s anything I need to improve please let me know. Thanks for watching!

This is awesome! You are making lots of progress! You made note of triplets needing work, and the advice I could have to help you is two things: 1. Raise your snare a little bit if possible, maybe even that low tom too. Your equipment is there to help not to hurt you. 2. For the faster fills on the snare, you leaned into using you arm, keep the same good wrist technique that you used for all of the other stuff outside of the fills. You’re doing great, keep working at it!

@ Thank you for the tips!! I raised my snare and tom up a bit so hopefully that helps. I’ll work on using my wrist instead of my arm 😊

Great job.... You're making great progress. It's great that you're performing in front of an audience early on, too. Too many of us experienced players wait until we have everything perfect until we get in front of an audience. And, of course, perfection can never happen. Keep it up

Thanks!! My goal is to get it 90% right. I feel like there’s this pressure we all feel that we have to post the 100% perfection video, but there’s no fun in always trying to be perfect lol

the thing i found most tricky when i first started was transitioning from the main beat to a fill (e.g. at 1:31). i always got nervous when i knew it was coming up, and was making transitioning both in and out a lot more difficult for myself because i was tensing whenever i went for it, which led to me rushing.
this is something that will 100% improve as your timing does because it gets easier to figure out exactly when to break away from the main beat, but i personally also found it really useful to play along to a song that i considered relatively simple, with a lower bpm and decent number of fills. i was learning arctic monkeys' 'snap out of it' for a show at the time and used that. it helped massively with getting used to moving between the drums, improving my timing, and getting really clean fills without worrying about having to return to a more complicated main beat and keep up a higher tempo, and once i had practised with that specific song for a few days, i found playing songs i previously really struggled with way easier.
but the most important thing is to find what works for you. some people improve quicker by perfecting components individually, but others do so by diving straight into learning songs altogether. i think that there's no "right" way or proven method to learning any instrument, but especially the drums. even things that technically have a "correct" way of doing can be different for everyone - for example, the way im counting changes when i do a fill, which my old drum tutor HATED at first but he eventually realised that it really worked for me (and a lot of his other students after me, apparently). if you love what youre doing, which it definitely looks like you do, youll naturally find a way that works for you too. keep it up!!

Thank you for taking the time to write this out! I feel the exact same way about fills! I tend to rush them especially if it’s all played on one piece such as the snare. When I’m playing it doesn’t feel like I’m tensing up but watching myself it’s pretty that I am.
I think for me there’s this urge to play fast but I do need to find slower songs to work on playing cleaner. I’ve only been playing on an actual drum set for two weeks but I feel like I should be doing more…I’m sure everyone starting out has felt like this lol
I feel like I learn quickly by watching other people play first so I can get an idea on how it should sound. The from there it’s repetition.

@@DevanDaDrummer i COMPLETELY understand the urge to play fast - i still get called out for it now, but _especially_ when i was starting out. i felt like every time i sat at the kit, i had so much energy (nervous or otherwise) that even when i was trying to play slower i always ended up rushing through. snap on the snare thing, too; i found fills played on one piece more difficult to get right every single time.
like you said, everyone always feels like they could be doing more. it shows your dedication. two weeks in, this is fantastic. your coordination is already great, and everything will just keep getting better.
it's good to hear that you've already figured out what's most effective for you right now! im big on the 'watch and learn' thing, too - hearing how it's supposed to look and sound first really helps with fine-tuning and figuring out when things sound a bit off. im excited to see your progress!

I started practicing playing drums around 2020. I also do cover versions of songs I enjoy playing, and sometimes stream on twitch to help pass time (and loneliness). If you need help/info on how to record from your kit, I’ll try my best to help you out!
Great job, by the way. Keep it up. Subbed. 👏🏼

Do you find the floor toms to be uncomfortable? It seems low. If so I would try to get them to a similar height as the snare height.
    You’re doing great!

Thanks! I raised my tom to snare height and that has helped tremendously 😄

You did pretty well. I'd agree with some other comments. The snare and floor toms need to be raised up. I'd say, especially the snare if you want to do rimshots someday. Everyone is different and you should do what is comfortable for you but when you start to work on kick drum speed heel down is going to be hard. You should try working on heel up. You might need to lower your throne to do so. Keep on rockin!

Thanks for the advice!! I’ve raised my floor Tom up and it definitely felt better. I’m still playing around with my throne height to see what feels best to play heel up.
