    So we took the first steps to getting our backup water source for our homestead. Once they started looking they could not find the line anywhere and it had them all nervous.

      I'm only allowed 1000mg salt a day. That has to much salt in it. One drink and I can't have anymore salt that day. I can't do .that

    I'd consider 1 1/2" PEX for your run from meter to well-house. PEX can swell 300% if it freezes (without bursting). PEX is also very easy to graft/repair as needed too.

      there no sense running 1 1/2 pex for the run if they only run 3/4 to meter

      Be careful with the pipe you use per was the best until they took out oil that they were using and changed yo peanut or nut oil and garments and beaver's and rats love it and chew threw it like food to get a water source it's like they have add an attractant for animals to feed on it so do your research shawn and see what is alternative options

      Same, I know rattlesnakes only rattle if they are aware of you being there. Stepping on one you didn't see is a common cause of bites. 🐍

      I would use schedule 40 pvc. Here in nc the black pipe can get holes in it in later years from vibration and temp change. I've tried both and I now have schedule 40.

    I longer the line is the less water pressure. You'll need a 2" line for more water pressure up to the well and the more freeze shut off the more pressure. So you will need a 2 inch line.

    A reliable source of water is a must for both the humans and the animals. With the rural water you can go out of town without quite so much worry about the generators working and no sulfur is another plus

    Second source of water is a good idea. No filter needed. Consider running yellow caution tape about 10-12" above your water line to help identify it the next time you dig. Might also consider running copper wire to help locate it. Thanks for sharing

    I have used braising rods to find a water line. My grandpa use to be a well digger and was a water witch. He taught me how. He said some people can even find gold like that but he never could. He could only find water.

    Rural water hookup, a water well, and rain catchment? I thought you had rain catchment already in place, the rain water runs across the ground down to the ponds and across the road...lol 😂😅 Personally, I'd put a couple 1000 gal tanks somewhere and utilize them. You have lots of rain to use. Love ya'll 😊

    I love what a Bobcat & brush-cutter can do in a short amount of time. It’ll be great to have rural water hook-up.

    Good that you'll have multiple water systems planned. You need to look into some quick connect fittings for each system. And an insulating method for the tap.

    Of course since you will be adding more stock for the homestead, a very smart decision. Good time to do this before winter so you can get the lines and connections winterized. A lot of work for one person, Dutch. Wish you had a helper.

    You should draw the way you want to put your pastures after you clear the land and the run the fence post when the water line is new , otherwise you will forget exactly where it is. You don't have to put the wire up just some post so you will remember.

    I assume you will run a copper wire (12 gauge) to find the water line in the future if it need be. FIber optic cable has a metal shield for critters and for location purposes.

    Hi Dutch,
    We have had temps that have I think broke records here in Wisconsin.
    Last Weds. it was 98* high with heat index 120* here in Fond Du Lac.
    When you talk to the older ones they have not seen it this hot here.
    We has having Heat Warning ans Extreme Heat Warnings here that week.
    I do not look forward to winter again here.
    Some of the weather people I think are saying that it going to be a really bad winter this coming
    I am from N.C and it gets a lot hotter back home.
    The temp here has finally broke we been in the 70's Thank God !

      Would you kindly ask your husband what his recommendation would be for a water supply tubing from a newly installed 1.5" water tap that would run a long distance, such as 800' or more? From a quality and longevity standpoint? I would greatly appreciate it. For reference, it would be in a coastal rural area of NC. Thank you.

    Cog hill farms just bought new pools for their pigs. They bought sand boxes for kids. Much more ridged plastic. The turtle one is smaller than the other one.

    We just used 1 way valves. Didn't realize they finaly got preasures up on rural water above pump pressures so that wouldn't work. And as to the earlier question if you're going over 100yds. From that meter to the house it's choked down to much in ¾pex.shood have not done that till it was less than 100 yes.

    They can find pvc if they rent the right equipment. Hydrometers can hear/locate moving water in lines. Most water companies have them.

    Get yourself a diverter valve. One valve that shuts off the well and turns on the city. 3-Way Valves with T-Shaped Holes can allow two inlets to flow into one outlet.

    Are you Gotta do is put a color switch for your palm and to switch over to city water and there’s a cut off switch. You can install for sharing on city water just switched back over to the well water.

    Some places in the US it is illegal to catch rain water, should look into it.

    Those huge rocks can be used as a fence.. or a walk way.. or have a cool swimming hole for the duck with a cilme spot and a rock rim😂nice rocks for fun things to do😂

    now when something goes down you have backup. if you can put your water line 18 inches to 24 inches deep. put markers where your water line runs. are you will be looking for it. be bless and love and safe. SAVANNAH TN.

    You are lucky to have your water. If I didn’t have my water well, I would not have any water. Our part of the county has no rule water. I get only 1/2 gal a minute. my grandparents had a good spring which just dried up before I moved on the property

    A must in the future is to keep the water line pathway cleared and mowed so you can always have excess for repairs and also so you will know the water line location.

    There is a metal wired egg shaped thingy that is inserted into a known water entrance so that you could track it with a metal detector from above. Works great for short runs in pvc piping. Just a future idea, for when you can't find a covered up drain.

    My grandfather put a simple water drinking fountain outside for those especially the kids when getting thirsty to keep from tracking dirt into the house ... the fountain has been there for 50/60 or more yrs

    You need to try those long sleeve cooling work shirts with a white cotton t-shirt under it. I have worked outside foe 30+ years. When I found about this it was a lot easer on me to be in the heat.
