I finally have completed collecting the 1987 "experimental livery" releases by Märklin. The wagons, numbered #4220, 4221, 4222, and 4223, are quite cool for their day. So, come have a look!
They are cool in their own fashion. A bit dated in some ways, but still very cool. Now I have completed this collection and am enjoying it. I just have to get the locos working (one need a major tune-up, the other needs converted to digital).
Well, that nice BR101 loco is one of my favorites. As the BR111 was not in the mood to pull it's fellow experimentals, I went with a good one for sound and style! lol
Hello, Deano!! I am quite pleased to complete the collection. To get 2 locos and 8 cars for about £240 or less was a nice bit of luck for me. I am still not sure why I felt the urge to get the entire collection, but I am glad I did.
Vielen Dank. Ich habe sie nie vorher gesehen, aber dann musste ich die ganze Sammlung kaufen. Hello and thank you! I had never seen them before, but I just had to get them- the entire collection.
Hello, Tom! It was a mad buy, but once I got the story, I had to have this collection for some strange reason and complete... both the set w/ a loco and 4 cars, and then the separate loco and 4 cars. That I did it at the price of one new loco is pretty cool.
Hi Anthony, its very interesting how DB experimented with the various liveries. Thanks for explaining in great detail the designs of your new collectors Coaches. Cheers, Paul.👍👍👍
Hello Paul, I probably over-explaining and still get things wrong with all the information I get sent and find. Still, it was very fun to learn about for myself and now to have the entire collection is random, but very cool!
Nice, I was at the Amherst Show in Springfield MA a week ago and there were many European dealers, in fact Marklin themselves had a stand with all the new items on display including the 1 scale big boy. But, looking at the Euro dealers, I saw another Marklin experimental livery set from the same time period featuring different liveries for the Silberling cars
A different set? That would have been interesting to see, for sure. From my incomplete research, these were the only sets Märklin produced from the DB design orders of 1985-1986, so now I am intrigued. I know Märklin usually has a presence at Amherst, and being East Coast, there are definitely more dealers of Euro stock there. I want to make it to Amherst some day, but it is not easy to get there from here at that time of year. Cheers for the info and comment!
Agreed. And, technically, it was not fantasy, as actual cars and locos were painted in these colors, even if only for a few days. lol. ;) Still, a great collection and I am glad to have it done.
Anthony , Thank you for a great and interesting video on those Marklin models. Very cool. I wonder if they did items like that in z scale. I may have to do some research. Always great to watch your videos. Thank you again.🚂🚂
Hello, Olaf, and thank you for the very kind words. I do not think they were made in Z, but I can not say so with certainty. Good luck and hopefully I am wrong!
Hi Anthony I'm binging out on your videos this morning. I actually like the green experimental set and think that livery wouldn't look out of place right now in the UK. Cheers Andy
Hiya, Andy! I think it is a great set and some cool coloring. I think it would look cool running overall, just a bit feels very 90s to me, but still sharp nonetheless.
There really bizarre livery .. I'm glad they ended up with red for db livery. I guess you picked these up pre owned? Thanks for sharing the history surrounding the livery on db😊 Be good Anthony my friend 🧡 ❤
Hello, dear Mark! Thanks for the words. I do like this livery, but some of it definitely feels late 80s/early 90s about it. I do like the red and white themes DB now uses, but these did have their appeal to me! Of course, most liveries around Europe today are sharper than these.
Well there are more interesting ones ... The baby blue Eurofima prototype (in ACME set 55182 / Roco 44640) The LHB Eurofima prototypes in the POP scheme with stainless steel ribbed sides
Well, I suppose "more interesting" is in the eye of the beholder. The Olympia/sky blue car is quite sharp for its day (mid 70s if I remember correctly), but overall, I didn't find the Metropolitano an interesting looking train myself. Like art (which liveries can be), we all respond to different themes and styles. Cheers, Ivo.
They would certainly brighten up a dull day with their colours running through the countryside. Very nice Anthony. All the best.
Hello my friend! I agree. They are a bit dated in style, but still very sharp and colorful enough to appreciate them running by!
Wow superb set...👍🏻
Very nice loco too..

What a great video and an excellent choice of locomotive to run with those cars. And the final with the two trains side by side. ❤❤❤❤❤
Why thank you, kind sir! We appreciate your patronage and support :)
Looks awesome Anthony and sounds fantastic.
Thanks for sharing

Hello Anthony, What an amazing collection of experimental coaches thank you for sharing.
All the best to you and Joyce.

Very cool cars, thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thanks for watching
Very interesting coaches. I own those since my childhood, I really like this experimental design.
All the best

Hi Anthony that is a very nice collection you have and a piece of history. Regards Tom

Very cool to see. I had not heard of the history behind these.
Neither had I until I came across the first BR111 loco and began researching the story of its release and learned about the experimental designs.
Nice rake of cars Anthony. They look good running around the layout.
I do like them, thanks for watching!
Nice review.
Very sharp as you say.
A great collection to have in your possession.
Happy Modelling
AN impulse collection. But 8 cars and 2 locomotives for less than US $300... worth it!

Lovely cool set there Anthony. Does look good.
Hello, M'Lord! Thanks for watching! They are cool to see. It's funny imagining what it would have been like had DB gone to this scheme back then.
They are fantastic looking vehicles to have as something different to watch going around, I can see why you went for them!
They are cool, especially for their era, so I am quite happy with having the complete collection!
They look great
Thanks, Arthur!
Interesting looking train set! - Jenny
A little bit of German rail design history and "what ifs," but I am glad to complete the collection.

Very cool, Anthony! I know these wouldn't sit well with the fantasy scheme haters, but its great seeing what these cars could have looked like!
