Just replace the trains with the current generation of Vekoma trains for that track style, the vest restraints on those trains are great and they massively improve any coaster that has them.
I don’t know if that could really happen. I could be wrong, but I think the new Vekoma trains are heavier than Arrow trains, and Arrow track is typically.... not as sturdy as Vekoma track. I mean by the point in time that Viper was built, Arrow was still using the rigid transitions and cutting steel on site (see also Magnum XL-200). At the same time, Vekoma was already designing their rides with computers and just overall creating sturdier and better designed rides (see Ninja/Blue Hawk)
@@eliasmertens9313 I have to admit that this might be an issue I completely overlooked, I didn't realize how far behind Arrow really was in some areas.
Don't get me wrong, I know how innovative and influential Arrow was, but considering that Vekoma more or less started their coaster business by being teached by Arrow how to build their track design and then being licensed by Arrow to use it, it is incredible to think that Vekoma quickly surpassed their teacher.
Yeah, from what I heard those newer Vekoma trains are indeed heavier from what I heard. If those really don't work on the Arrow Loopers it would at least explain why to my knowledge no Arrow Looper was upgraded to them so far.
And wasn't Drachen Fire one of, if not the first Arrow Coaster designed on a Computer, or am I mixing something up here?
@@eliasmertens9313 Quite a few arrow loopers have gotten the new vekoma trains so that point is completely false, plus the trains use the original Arrow wheel assemblies and bogies so its really just a shell and restraint swap if anything.
All three of the mega loopers were not cut and fabricated on site and had their track assembled elsewhere because most of their transitions and general design is completely different to Magnum.
@@eliasmertens9313 but possibly vekoma can retrack viper because the track is kinda bumpy and if that does happen then viper will be able to accommodate the new vekoma trains with vest restrains (this is a possibly if the new vekoma trains are heavier than arrow trains and they have to retrack it). but if the new vekoma trains are around the same weight as arrow trains then there’s a change of viper getting the trains by vekoma

The problem is the plot of land unfortunately, it struggles to bring in people and they know they could bring in so many more people with a bigger coaster there. But I wish they’d bring more attention to it or change something bc it’s one of my favourite coasters

@@godtiergodkiller8854 Idk how ? I was at Magic Mountain last week and I would rank Riddlers Revenge as the worst in the park I had to fight the coaster from banging my head on the corkscrews. Viper runs smooth and that first drop in the back row on Viper is Wild. Easy top 4-5 in the park.

Some coasters are on an enthusiast's bucket list because they look amazing or unusual. Others are on an enthusiast's bucket list because they look like their days are numbered. For me, Viper is firmly among the latter.
I need to hightail it over to Magic Mountain and ride this thing before the giant Arrow Loopers go fully extinct...
...if CA ever lets its parks reopen.

I was watching another channel and they brought up Viper. We all know it's going to go eventually. Many enthusiasts talk about converting the trains to the new Vekoma trains. I've thought that too but then it struck me. Since Six Flags is all about saving money, what if they brought Chance Morgan in to convert it to a Giga? It's already 186ft tall, Viper's Revenge anyone?
Left out of your equation is that Viper is an ICON. It’s loops tower over the park midways and can be seen from a long ways away. It, along with the park’s observation tower are like their version of Disneyland’s Matterhorn. So whatever replaces Viper, would have to be extremely tall and extremely iconic and photogenic.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention an S&S mega looper like Steel Curtain. Six Flags has a solid relationship with S&S, and they could easily go for the inversion record or tallest/fastest looping coaster record. It’s likely a lot cheaper than a Mack hyper. I could definitely see that as a successor for Viper.
I think an Axis Coaster would be the best possible addition along with potentially an uplift or complete overhaul of the Baja Ridge area.
My dream coasters for that plot would be a Mack Hyper, a Vekoma Hyper, or a Mack Xtreme Spinner

I'm not too keen on parks removing all the big Arrow loopers. They are an important part of theme park history and pretty soon there'll be no more left! Maybe a Python-at-Efteling style retrack is a better idea? That would probably be within budget. Python has been buttery smooth and quite intense since the retrack, and if it works on a Vekoma it'll do gangbusters on an Arrow.
Literally wanted to say same thing. A retrack would be delightful. It's worth preserving and updating.
I road Viper the first week it opened. I waited 4 hours. Still one of my all time favorites. If it goes it will be missed.
What SFMM and indeed the entire West Coast is missing, is a floaty airtime B&M hyper. The size might be tough, but this feels like a better complementary fit to me.
I don't understand why SFMM decided to go with an unproven crappie a** "Giovanola" instead of a SOLID B&M for Goliath.....let alone IT being a giga, since they were in this big rivalry with Cedar Point when they built Millennium Force, in a who's who tale of bigger badder and xtreme coasters.

@@Joshwake There are only 2 coasters that provide airtime in the park. Apocalypse provides a little bit and TC has a fair amount but that's it. They are seriously lacking more airtime based coasters since they have almost 20 of them.

I also think SF will keep Viper - but with a retracking done by the company that did retrack efteling's vekoma "python" looper. That one turned out soo smooth! By the way: Viper was one of the coasters I enjoyed the most when I visited SF MM last year!
This was the most impressive coaster in the 90s for me, it was my destination coaster and it didn't disappoint, as an adult I have been on many better coasters but Viper was the coaster that made me a coaster nerd
Same for me, too. Viper opened when I was 8. I loved it so much. Revolution was my first looped coaster. Space Mountain in the 80s was what made me a coaster junky. However, Viper is terrible now. It gives me such a raging headache from all the banging on the restraints. I can't ride it anymore. It desperately needs an upgrade or be taken down. Yes, it's part of our childhood, but it's okay to let things go.

Imagine someone who has SFMM as their homepark complaining. The nearest park to me is 3 hours away. I can't complain too much though because that park is SFGAm.

Ive been very fortunate and got the opportunity to ride AXIS. and I DREAM of X2 and AXIs being next to each other. Old generation New Generation 4D next to each other would be AMAZING. It would be the perfect fit and the perfect addition. I am so glad you even considered the possibility, as its a awesome ride experience.
I also would not mind them doing a CHANCE GTX in the slot only because I would love to see more and more of them being built. ONE isn’t enough.

The ride is just great, I ride it every time, I go to six flags, since 1990. Since it was built Viper has been one of the tallest and fastest looping roller coasters in the world, and will not change it for any of the new rides you mentioned. The only thing they need to do is replace the trains. Twisted Colosos was originally built in 1975, and with the update is an amazing ride.
The only acceptable replacement would be an Intamin hyper, with the same thigh restraints Chris loves so much.
For reals though, I'd love to see RMC or Mack do a hyper on this plot. Since Goliath focuses on positive-Gs, and Twisted Colossus on ejector airtime, something with floater airtime is a must need for Magic Mountain.
Wow I'm surprised that you did not point this out. There is a large picnic area in between that land and the entrance of the park. The extra room could make some coaster types more plausible. For example, a mack hyper could follow the same lift direction as viper then have a twisted drop towards the picnic area. Then turn back around and have a twister section back on viper's plot. This also makes the dive more logical as the could have the drop going towards the bridge to X2 and go under it. Then flip back by using a tiny space of the picnic area. In my personal opinion I would want either a mack hyper or axis :)

Wow...I can’t believe it’s going. As an adult I’m not as much a fan of roller coasters. But as a kid that was the big one, it took me several trips to finally get on, and I LOVED it. I understand progress, it will be sad not to see it anymore off the freeway!
I think Six Flags could give it a treatment similar too what happened to Blue Hawk at Over Georgia by hiring Vekoma. I know they're different from Arrow, but they could still easily refurbish Viper.
I agree, along with some reprofiling; like the loop after the drop could become a gigantic loop like on Riddlers revenge or scream, that turn could go over banked the two loops could become one loop and a dive loop the pretzel loop should remain what it is and the corkscrews could become zero g rolls. 😉 all of these changes could happen or any combination of them. Either way, it would be Viper, just updated.
As much as I want to ride this, it does look really janky. Whatever will replace it will be the hypest thing MM does for a long while.
All it needs is a new paint job and next generation venom trains.
I've only been to Magic Mountain once, back in '91 when I was 11 years old. The Viper has been in the back of my mind as a legendary coaster my whole life. I was stunned just now when you said it's basically guaranteed to be a walk on these days...
The only thing that would be worthy to replace Viper would be a 220 ft GIGA from B&M, otherwise Viper better stay.

Yeah I went yesterday and it was the second ride I rode after Revolution, and Viper was empty, walked right up and I was next to get on. And it was the afternoon too!
Ugh i do not want to think about the day that Viper leaves. It's literally my 3rd favorite coaster in the park after Twisted and X2. It's going to be a sad day for sure! I'd rather see Goliath go first to be honest. Lol
RMC 500 foot or a B&M giga. they'd have to put some supports in the current picnic pavilion, but have it drop down towards the pavilion area, and then do an airtime hill over the parking tolls area and go across the street to the massive empty plot of land. If they ever intend on using that plot of land for a coaster, it would have to be a massive scale coaster that started where Viper or X2 now stands

I rode Viper On Monday and I say dont get rid of it sure its janky but what do you expect from an arrow. I like this ride and its definitely a good supporting coaster for the park instead do what they did to Phantoms Revenge and get Chance Rides to redo it.
When he said there's one more coaster that would be great at this park, I thought mack spinning coaster. Six flags and mack haven't really worked together, but imagine a ride like time traveler on the west coast

Cole Menteer Busch Gardens Williamsburg is my home Park and Loch Ness Monster is among my favorite roller coasters of all time!
Rocky Tuck I personally I think verbolten is the best at the park. When it’s not broken down.
Cole Menteer Verbolten is great. It's third best in the park in my ranking. Of all 53 roller coasters I've been on, Verbolten ranks 11th, and Loch Ness Monster ranks 3rd. Alpengeist is 2nd though! I didn't know Verbolten was unreliable. Every time I go, all the roller coasters are up and running, or maybe I'm just lucky.
It's worth considering Viper's two brothers and what replaced them: Shockwave was replaced with a B&M flyer, and Great American Scream Machine was replaced with a B&M stand-up....so, uh, never mind. Put in an Axis!
I really hope this never closes, maybe changing the pacing or something would help for the second half. I feel like simply adding new colours or touch ups will bring much more attention to it, when I wasn’t an enthusiast the reasons why I usually wouldn’t go on it was bc of how far it was from the other rides, but now I make sure to ride it every time and I’ve brought other family members to it and it’s now one of their favourite coasters.
It’s sad that all of these Arrow coasters are getting removed, but I understand that they’re old and cost more to take care of than what it’s worth
Imo a hyper Mack would absolutely be the best option. Price is an issues but god it would be perfect. We need another coaster breaking the 200ft mark as well
It's possible it could get the Phantom's Revenge treatment. Certainly big enough they could get a good ride out of it for a really good price as they wouldn't need any sort of new mechanics, as it keeps the lift hill, break run, and some track for things like the drop.

I think a Mack multi launch would fit well. Something like helix at Liseberg. It cost about 22 million in US dollars. You would have to make it more compact but it's definitely reasonable
Viper is the ride that made me love coasters. May not be a perfect ride with all the coaster advancements in the last 30 years and may not nearly be the best ride at SFMM but it's got a grit I can never get enough of. RIP to my best friend to who took me to Six Flags once because he had an extra ticket. I hadn't been on serious coasters before so he thought I would be a lightweight. I made him go on Viper four times in a row and he was the one begging for mercy! I've got my own season pass this year and I'm going to rider Viper as much as possible before MM phases it out.

I wouldn't go THAT far....Magic Mountain doesn't have A GIGA OR FULL CIRCUIT STRATA.....BUT, as LONG AS it is under the Shi*...... I mean, Sux.......DAMMIT......I MEEEAAAN....Six Flags banner, that will never happen.

(and let's be honest, stratas aren't flying off the shelves) They've got similar experiences for every option in the video except a raptor or water coaster, but I don't feel those are great replacements. They probably wouldn't get me to visit anymore than I already do.

They better not replace it this ride is so much better than it used to be. One of my go to when I go to six flags. This is nostalgia and a great rollercoaster.
I don't think they'd get an Axis. They're probably quite unreliable, and they are no more versatile than a regular floorless coaster. Think about it: Axis can turn a straight drop into a twisted one... Or you could have a regular twisted drop. Axis can turn straight track into a heartline roll... Or you could have a regular heartline roll. The only advantage Axis has is you can't look at the track ahead and see what's coming up. But when it gets rough, that'll be a disadvantage.
I think, since they need a punchy launch coaster, they could either get a Vekoma LSM launch coaster or an S&S Compressed Air launch coaster. If they want a gimmick, they could make a Vekoma Tilt coaster with an LSM launch to make the drop feel more punchy, aswell as a more powerful one later in the layout. Obviously, they'd get a large-scale one.
Edit: Although, if they're willing to splurge a bit, a Mack Xtreme Spinner would be great. Maybe they could build the world's first hyper-spinner, unless Project Exodus claims that title. And Mack Xtreme Spinners have great launches.
Edit 2: A VEKOMA Bermuda Blitz could break the inversion record. That would be marketable. But I think it might be a bit redundant with Scream.
If six flags does take it down. It will be an end to an era the end of Arrows greatest mega loopers. Viper is the only one still left. I live and grown up in Philadelphia region and I was soo sadden to see Great American Scream Machine go.
If Magic Mountain updated the trains on Viper, with new, more comfortable restraints, I could see it lasting a lot longer and bringing people back to it. But if they go for the small sit down inverter, they could do a 2 for 1 on the plot and drop a Big Dipper in there too. They'll exceed the plot a bit, but they have places to extend a bit into the trees towards the rapids out out over the courtyard in front of the ride entrance. Two new rides, side by side, would definitely be a workable marketing campaign.
Having just ridden this monstrosity yesterday, I respect your opinion on most rides, just not Viper. I think I walked away with a concussion and a broken neck, I’ll never ride it again.
Nothing is better than night time rides on el Toro in the back. Did that on Saturday last week and ohh you have to be there.
I think the Axis coaster is the best option but I do hold out hope that Six Flags (a chain that needs inexpensive options) and Vekoma (a manufacturer that needs redemption in the US market) can do future business
Man, I frequented Magic Mountain in the 90's and it's a sign of the times indeed that Viper is a guaranteed walk-on.
I remember when it came out in the early 90’s and we went it was like THE thing to go on. The line was about 3 hours long.
I remember going there in the late 90s and the line to Viper was always packed. Sad to see such a great ride loose its popularity.
I like the idea of a Vekoma blitz model, honestly, they could mimic the original layout of Viper with modern elements and transitions. That way the spirit of Viper lives on for more generations to enjoy. The thing is way too iconic to close the book on its legacy once and for all.

I love Viper. I would love to see it thrive as long as possible. I was sad to see Great American Scream Machine go. Literally shed a tear. But I really do believe the best idea out of these would be that last one, the Vekoma looping blitz. Imagine “Viper 2.0” basically. Perhaps a somewhat similar yet more modern layout. Having the height with many inversions (especially at least one tall vertical loop for the memory) and a bunch of forceful turns and air hills here abs there. That’d be lit!!
The last couple times I've been to magic mountain, viper has been closed and I get bummed out, I really love this ride. It's so cool, and that first drop sitting in the back is freaking insane. And for people who complain about it being an ear banger, just lean your head with the rides turns and itll be smoother

Viper can't be replaced. Its a classic, has so much character, and is quite thrilling in some ways.
0:30 and Scream because of it being so far back at a dead end. Plus, I'm sure Sansei will allow Vekoma to build next gen coasters in the US as S&S already built several coasters in Asia.
I don't see Viper going anywhere in the near future, but I know previously the park has been extremely reluctant to replace it unless they can get another statement coaster. Therefore, I'm thinking one of the following:
1. B&M Dive Coaster, likely the largest in the world, and possibly giga sized.
2. Something from S&S, either a large pneumatically launched coaster or a multi-looper in the same vein as Steel Curtain. While an Axis is possible, I'm not sure that's going to be a large enough ride to replace Viper.
3. Record-breaking Mack of some sort.
All of these are well outside of Six Flags's usual budget, but given the flagship status of SFMM I could potentially see them happening. However, such a project is likely 5+ years in the future.
I LOVE Viper! I’ve only been to MM twice. The first time I rode it was in like 2015 3rd car (I’m a back rower), and they had all the trims on so I wasn’t impressed. However, I got to go back November 2019, and it was hauling! Barely any mid course brakes, no head banging, and no line. Rode it like 4 times.
My top 3 dream coasters for vipers spot:
1. B&M or Intamin Giga

Something you can also consider is land over roaring rapids which they can simply build over. The park could also build over the entrance area.
Now a giga is just a wild dream. The west coast badly needs one. If six flags bought an Intamin giga I would go insane. It could maybe fit if it had some of the extensions I mentioned. A mack hyper could work really well here. It could have a curved drop like dc rivals and goes over the entrance. I would want it to focus on intensity just like rivals. Not a hyper looping coaster like the one in China. You got me intrigued of the idea of a prefab. Although highly unlikely, that would be an insane addition. It could have a layout kinda like el toro but more compact with a similar intensity level as el toro. An axis would be cool too but we still don’t know what they are fully capable of in terms of layout. I personally don’t want to see a dive coaster. They just don’t look that exciting. Too slow paced and very poor pacing. Except it would draw in the gp since they’re all over dive coasters. Imagine a hyper or fairly big vekoma being added. That could make for a fantastic ride. And they’re much cheaper compared to larger coaster manufacturers. It could have a lot of potential. So yeah those are my thoughts.
The first time I went to SFMM I was too short to ride Viper and wasn’t stuffing socks in my shoes yet. Very disappointing for a huge Step By Step fan. Went back maybe 2 years later and got to ride. That first ride terrified me, the lift hill just went on and on. Luckily the lift hill is the toughest part. It was Easily my favorite coaster but only for the briefest period until I rode Magnum a few months later. Had I not made it to Cedar Point so young, it probably would’ve stayed my favorite for years to come. What a creation.
I think it would make perfect sense to put to weird and wacky rides next to each other it fits maybe they could even give them both a story that ties in with the other, something like the smiler and oblivion
The biggest hole in the lineup of magic mountain is floater airtime. They have so many rides that focus on aggressive inversions and ejector airtime but nothing thrilling but graceful. They could totally fit the most unique B&M hyper to date if they want to spend the money on it. Now that we have real reason to believe the Knott's giga is a real possibility, they are going to need another investment soon. They could run the lift hill similar to viper now, then turnaround and run the hyper out and back behind revolution. Dominator at Carowinds fits between revolution and the service road behind it. Then they have all the space where viper is now to add a good twister ending to the hyper. They could even have the first traditional hyper to have an inverting twister section if they wanted something to make it more marketable. This may be a pipe dream, but it is totally possible and may be warranted with the competition in the surrounding areas.

I think Taylor suggested a wing that would thread the Full Throttle loop a few years ago. it’s a dream, but that would be perfect.

Great video, don't touch Viper! Track replacement only! Maybe some third-generation Arrow Looper trains (Drachen Fire style) with some kind of lapbar restraint would be nice also.I guess if we have to let Viper go an S&S hyper looper like Steel Curtain would be acceptable replacement. Boomerang Chris, this an Arrow coaster not a B&M. The only Arrow that had a "Batwing" was Drachen Fire. Also on Arrow coasters, the Corkscrew element is singular, not plural, so you just saw "corkscrew". You can also say a corkscrew (element with) two inversions.
I really like this ride and I hope it doesn’t get taken down. They just gotta renovate it.

Honestly I would not want to see Viper leave SFMM. I think the best option for it would be to just replace the over the shoulder restraints with lap bars and this would be a fantastic experience for everyone. I also think SFMM should consider disabling the midcourse break run on Viper. The midcourse break run on viper is both a good and bad thing, the pro of the midcourse it that you take the elements slow enough to give hangtime but the con is that it kills the speed and aside from the inversions none of the other elements in the 2nd half really stand out. I think the inversions in the 2nd half of Viper would be very whippy and snappy if the midcourse break run was disabled. In fact I think without the midcourse break run the batwing in the 2nd half could have the power that Montus batwing has. And I think the turns in the 2nd half would also likely give great laterals since they are barely banked. I also think there are a couple hills in the 2nd half that could give airtime if the midcourse break run was disabled. But I think in order for the midcourse to be disabled on this SFMM would have to replace the over the shoulder restraints with lap bars otherwise the batwing and corkscrews would likely have lots of head banging.
Another great idea for a replacement is S&S's new looping coaster (like Steel Curtain at Kennywood). It could at least take the North American inversion record, but the high pricing and maintenance issues can really be a turn-down point.
A S&S Axis Coaster or an Intamin Pre-fab sound like great options. A B&M dive would be cool, especially if it had the lift was in the same position as Viper and it did a 180 degree turn and did the hold before the drop! But like you said, not extremely marketable in socal.
Nothing will ever replace this beast of a ride it honestly made me feel like i was on the tail of a viper going in for the kill something i can honestly say no ride has made me feel before yeah tatsu is noice you feel like a dragoon but nothing compares to viper and the pure characteristics of the theme of it and the way the ride delivered with all its whipping turns and violent loops (never understood why people complained about pain).
