Commenting again because youtube automatically deleted my comment for editing it to include the link to the interview. ZUN had an interview with Toby Fox and Yoshiro Kimura in 2018. ZUN played Undertale before the interview on October 19, 2018. ZUN's music has been greatly influential to Toby, but it's possible that Toby's music influenced ZUN a bit after he played Undertale. The two are on friendly terms and recently collaborated to make "U.N. Owen Was Hero?" Toby wrote in his Autumn 2023 newsletter that he went backstage with ZUN and others after the Danmaku Kagura music collaboration announcement event, but admits that he's only met with with ZUN, "a couple times before, but it was so long ago..." In one part of the 2018 interview, ZUN implied he played the Undertale genocide route but struggled against or couldn't beat Sans. This part of the interview is on the second page of the interview near the middle. Yoshiro Kimura mentioned that it was difficult for himself to make and play shooting games because of his aging eyes/presbyopia, and how it was hard to avoid bullets. ZUN responded, saying that he relates to Kimura, that it's a struggle to dodge a barrage of bullets and "that's why I couldn't even beat that guy in Undertale." I used DeepL and other machine translations, so my interpretation of this part of the interview might be wrong. In any case it's neat that ZUN beat Undyne the Undying, knows of megalovania (also shown in Toby's Autumn 2023 newsletter), and likely played through a true pacifist route of Undertale, as most players do before playing a genocide route.

In one part of the 2018 interview, ZUN implied he played the Undertale genocide route but struggled against or couldn't beat Sans. This part of the interview is on the second page of the interview near the middle. Yoshiro Kimura mentioned that it was difficult for himself to make and play shooting games because of his aging eyes/presbyopia, and how it was hard to avoid bullets. ZUN responded, saying that he relates to Kimura, that it's a struggle to dodge a barrage of bullets and "that's why I couldn't even beat that guy in Undertale."
I used DeepL and other machine translations, so my interpretation of this part of the interview might be wrong. In any case it's neat that ZUN beat Undyne the Undying, knows of megalovania (also shown in Toby's Autumn 2023 newsletter), and likely played through a true pacifist route of Undertale, as most players do before playing a genocide route.
