When you come, you are most likely going to end up marrying a local. And every new sweet bundle of joy will be a vote for the opposition party in the future.

This is because Singaporeans also benefit from the higher Singapore dollars and to spend in Msia you get better value. As things stand, prices in Msia be it food and properties are really really less pricey than Singapore. But with influx of outsiders, really it drives up prices which bites really into the locals purses. Real sad

Frankly speaking, things cost too much in Canada nowadays. Crimes, drugs, stealing cars, and unemployment all make living in Canada not as good as in the 70-80/90s! Heavy taxes and poor transportation, deteriorating medical services (not enough family doctors!) and inconvenience in many aspects in life, thus making Asian countries far better choices for retirement. Also, it is even tougher than HK to earn and save money in Canada, unless people earned enough money and no need to worry about money there.

@@F_e_l Actually for young generations, not easy to land on good jobs after sending kids to attend good universities. Many end up doing frontline service work. Hope the situation gets better in Canada, but in the long run, it is still tough to live in Canada because Trudeau's government ruined Canada already over 10 years by now. It is not easy to turn around at least within these 3-5 years.

This is really the best arrangement for HKers. There are very few places were you can retire and basically retain your culture, language, food, custom and yet stretch your money so much farther.
This is also good for the new place as new money and consumption is coming to the region. This will also help further develop the region.
For us, Americans, would be like having Mexico o Costa Rica in our suburbs....and just be one car ride away from "home base".

You know what's funny? CNA just did a report on youths in Mainland China not being able to afford retirement. Now CNA is doing a report on HK people moving to Mainland China so they can afford retirement. Doesn't CNA realize that it's contradicting itself?
HK's affordability problem is self-inflicted. They let capitalists run rampant, especially property tycoons who pump up property prices into the stratosphere. When Mainland China tries to avoid HK's fate by proactively popping its property bubble, CNA makes a doom and gloom report of China's economy collapsing.

There is clear difference - the Hong Kong'er has assets from a life in a high cost country, which she can sell and relocate to a lower cost country to retire. This is similar to alot of foreigners are doing by retiring in Indonesia and Thailand. Costs in Hong Kong are high, because the land size is very small population is high. Supply and demand, not some evil capitalist antagonist, is at play.
As stated by the other comment, the youths in China arent making as much and find it tough to find high paying jobs after graduating. Its two seperate issues.

CNA does so many features about HK. Why this focus? Is it because we are in a similar situation? Or is a focus on policies being made or not being made? Is this to highlight what we have now? However HK has 1 major difference vs Singapore. They are sovereign state/country to a super power nation. We are not. We also have the ability to make ppl think car ownership is an entitlement for 10yrs. Mandy will have to work for a minimum of 3.5yrs w/o any other expenses to get to be entitled. It is sad that after working hard and contributing to nation building. We are told to go elsewhere for retirement. Where is my homeland?

@@robocop581 The key is in services , Meituan has thousands of restaurants delivered to your home for Rmb5-10 , DiDi you can hail a cab for Rmb15-30 for most rides , a handyman can come to my house and fix everything for Rmb150-300 , package delivery even out of GD province is Rmb15-25, I can go on forever lol. Parking Rmb10/hr. Who goes to HK these days ? My maid ( serious ) . Others are going Japan , Sing, Aust , Canada etc. HK has lost its edge.

@@robertwang7825 Have you lived in HK? You're talking like it's a 3rd World Country. Delivery services are minimal to me as I like to go out and see people. BTW, we only pay 6% income tax in HK and we can access Facebook and TH-cam. Try matching that in the Mainland. As for Canada, are you kidding me? Their public transport is old, slow and they suck. Have you seen the crimes in public transport in Calgary, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Toronto?
