Also, I read that we can fix this issue with the "Open and Repair" method too which worked out for me.
Please help. my laptop just came back from guarantee repair. Downloaded and installed Office 365, where I have many Excel files saved. I can open and download them, but they won't open in this pc. In file explorer, I can only see them on Onedrive. If I open Excel from the start menu, I only get the Onedrive option. What now?????

me too, cannot open
After doing all, still excel file not opening and showing the same error. All excel files in a particular folder are corrupted. New files and the files in other folders are working properly.
After two weeks I use a third party excel repair tool suggested by one of my friends. This tool by stellar helps me to find out the corruption in the .xls file and repair it in very little time.

How can you suppress the error message that come sup in File Type situtation that never occurred in porevious versions ? Is there a setting somewhere in EXCEL ? My macro has worked for 20 years ! now it no work any longer. Tried adding code in macro - but no luck. Application.DisplayAlerts = False

If this is not still working- check if you have [#] hashtags or your file names. In our cade that turned out to be the issue.

I went through all those steps, but "Everyone" already had access. As a matter of fact when I clicked on Edit under everyone...it says FULL CONTROL, but all the check marks are grayed out

I read that you can change the File Extension of the Excel Sheet to a DOC or from .xls to .xlsx, but how do you do that if the file won't open?
Hey, you might not need to know this anymore but here are the steps. Go to File Explorer or any folder, at the top there is a "view" tab, click on it and you should see a "Show/Hide" section with one of the boxes named "File name extensions". You simply click on it and it should show the extension (e.g .xlsx) behind each document name.
I think the method you are referring to requires you to change the extension by renaming the .xls to .xlsx, BEFORE doing this I would recommend you to make a copy of the file as this can lead to the file becoming completely blank.
