  • This project is a dream come true and we are absolutely over the moon with how this cabin turned out. We hope you enjoy the full video tour of this very special place that I have crafted for my parents retirement.
I want to say a huge thank-you to Palmako and Trade Tested (www.tradetested...) for teaming up with us on this project and helping to make all of this possible. To find out more about these cabins, visit: www.palmako.ee...
You can find Palmako kit-set cabins all over the globe! Find your local distributor here: www.palmako.ee...
Here, we have taken a kit-set cabin and turned it into a dream get-away. A place where we can relax, unwind and be with nature. The exterior of this cabin is all about connection with nature, form the sun-soaked front deck with BBQ, table and chairs, through to the tree-house style rear deck with captivating views looking out over the forest canopy, this place is truly something else.
Stepping inside, the cabin is quintessentially cozy with all the wonderful warmth coming from the beautiful Nordic spruce timber logs. Of course, there's a cozy leather couch in front of the fire, and the interior decor of this cabin is designed to make you relax into the space, with a hint of modern design thrown in there too for ease of living.
We hope you enjoy the full tour of this beautiful cabin. We are very proud of what we've created here!

We really hope that you've enjoyed this build series! I think we've created quite a special place here and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to do this project. I'd like to say a massive thank-you to our partners in this video, Trade Tested and Palmako for helping to make this possible, and a huge thank-you to you for watching and supporting our channel! So to place in context for us here is upstate NY, USA. If we were to buy a cabin, already built with similar features let's say in the Foothills of this State you would probably spend upwards of $280- $330 thousand USD, which is insane. And that's for an already lived in cabin. To me clearly you've invested your time and money in all the right places. If your cabin was built here for that cost you've spent, I would consider that well invested, or "a steal" as we say here in the US. Well done! Proud of all you've accomplished over the years.

@@franescadiano I spend an immense amount of time on my 70 acres without plumbing. Beautiful outdoor on demand hot shower, portable compost toilet, foot pump for washing dishes, the list goes on. @@franescadiano would have spent a whole lot more money on the planning and consent from the local planning commission to get the plumbing and bathroom put in. Not as easy as just saying "put a bathroom, toilet, sink, etc in".
And, what's the point? Well, it's to spend more time with his parents and have a place for them to stay that is nearby when they want to visit. Not 3 hours away where they live.

As someone who has studied erosion, soil science, and terrestrial systems, I was not worried about where you built. Those roots are stabilizing the cliffs and they have been there for 100s of years. Then you mentioned rock layers. The only thing that will take out that cabin is some other natural disaster besides a landslide. I hope that NZ does not yet suffer the devastating forest fires they get in Australia or tornados as in the Midwest US, or hurricanes or cyclones, here’s hoping you are well away from the shores here. However, earth quakes are an issue, but I believe you are not building on a fault line. So here to a lovely cabin lasting a century or two if it is well maintained.

I am fortunate to have looked after my mum till she died and still have my 94 yo dad with us, and sharing these later years with our folks can be so special. I think an outdoor bathroom will be stunning and I figure initially, your folks will mostly be with you guys, sharing meals and the bathroom and most importantly, your company. Dont worry about any not so nice comments, not everyone understands how important it is to meet council approval and also, that this is a project that is built from a starting point of absolute love, and in stages, will become the most beautiful tree-change for them both. Im in Perth and I really believe tiny homes would be a way to tackle the huge housing crisis we have in Au. There are a couple of channels that document living in Dry Cabins in Alaska, and how they get around the water issues. The basic reasons are different - to do with the isolation of cabins and the impossibility of connecting to town water, plus the chances of the pipes bursting in the Alaskan winters. The workaround solutions are a bit of hard work, but do-able. Large water dispensers in the kitchen, toilet outhouses, etc. Most people seem to use workplace or gym facilities for daily showers, but they show that you can live in a dry cabin full time if you want to.

@@davidcattin7006 you think Bryce is gonna build a cabin for his parents without consulting them on their needs and wants? The outdoor bathroom is coming, and there will be eleven years of tiny house tours that Bryce will utilise to come up with what his parents want.

The whole bathroom thing isn't really a thing imo because:
    1. The outdoor bathroom is coming...can't wait to see that.
    2. Anyone who has lived tiny will know how to work around this.
Such a great thing to be able to give back to parents who have already given so much and are such a big part in forging who we become. So happy that you and the channel were able to do this.
Cheers from Aussie in Chiang Mai :)

Beautiful cabin! I bet it smells so good in there!
I'm 67 and can easily work around not having an indoor toilet. There are always work-arounds, and I bet it was your parents who chose to start off with no indoor plumbing. That doesn't mean there never will be. Or maybe it will be an outdoor loo as you've talked about.
I've lived with an outdoor shower and also an outhouse. One thing people with indoor plumbing don't know is the amazing and magical things you see when you take a quick trip outside in the night!
Thanks so much for taking us along for the journey!

I love it. It’s perfect. I love the outside and what an incredible view and the placement of the home so they can fully utilize that view wow and the extra measures you’ve taken to make sure that they are safe and the house last is such a testament of your love for your parents and family. Plus you are so incredibly familiar with what it’s like to live in a tiny home on top of all the different evolving options and changes that have been happening over the years, that you could truly design the best possible home for their specific needs👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼. Fantastic excellent job. Seriously if my kids even just wanted to do that for me, I would feel so incredibly loved. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. I'm laughing reading the comments. First it was too close to the ravine and now no bathroom or running water from everyone. Did anyone not think your parents had any say in the building of this cabin meant for them? I am sure, very sure your parents will do just fine in their retirement home you built for them and I would have given up an inside bathroom in order to have more room in my bedroom so I could easily walk around the KING SIZE bed that looks so cozy!!! It's a very great thing you have the parents you do and not the ones in the comments that can not see a rose for what it is. Bravo!!! I am very sure your parents are so proud of you and all you and your wife have accomplished!!

Well done Bryce on the cabin build. My favourites were the interior door using offcuts blending into the wall, the fireplace, the wardrobe surround & the lovely big bed. After a 3-hour drive I'm certain your parents love stretching their bodies out on that land, in the cabin and on the decks.
Sorry you can't have plumbing facilities included, but I'm sure you and your parents will come up with some charming & doable ideas for seniors. Incinerator toilet? compost toilet? solar for a hot shower? water tank? There are so many great ideas right on your own channel.
After the outdoor bathroom, I see an outdoor kitchen, fire pit with log seating & hot tub in the future. 😉

It’s absolutely beautiful. ❤What a wonderful gift for your parents. I can feel the love for them when you speak. I can also feel your pride and your vulnerability when speaking about the decisions you made about your choices of location and decorations. I can see that you are opening yourself up to possible criticism, I hate that anyone would criticize you for your personal choices. It may not be the style or location someone else would want, but this is not their cabin. You love it and your love comes through. The carefully thought out decisions you’ve made are clear. I personally love the location. When you first walked out onto the back deck my first thought was, “oh, it’s a tree house “, 😂 and 1 second later that’s exactly what you were thinking of when you built it! So have zero doubt that it definitely feels like a dream tree house.
I can’t wait to see a separate room for the bath, I think it should have a tree house vibe too 😂. I’m sure that would be more challenging though! But if anyone can figure it out, well, it’s you. 😊.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful project with us and I can’t wait for the next chapter. ❤
